Has a lot of integration and visualization options, but can't be easily used by business users, and working with the color palette is difficult
With Dundas BI, we do not have end-users apart from the developers. End-users do not find it easy to create their own reports. Most of the implementations I have seen require a developer team for creating the visuals, and they then give them to end-users. A self-serve part where end-users or business users can create their own reports would help in terms of the adoption of Dundas BI. Currently, business users find it difficult to work with Dundas BI because there are so many settings that they don't know what they need to do. Even when a developer starts working on Dundas BI, he needs to spend at least one month or so getting used to the functionalities of Dundas BI. Even then, it is not easy to remember where or how they made a certain property change. It takes at least one month for a developer to get acquainted with it. Working with the color palette is difficult in Dundas BI. They can work on different color palettes and make them organized and user-friendly. It would help a long way. Most of the time, the users face challenges in assigning colors to the fields that they have created or to the dimensions and measures in a chart. Dundas can further reduce the number of settings they have. When you create any chart in Dundas, you get a lot of features to control each setting, which is pretty useful for BI, but for end-users, it is difficult to identify the exact settings to change a property. I would love it if some of the options come pre-selected. If some of the settings are set to best practices by default, it will be helpful. Whenever we have any issues, the error messages that we get in Dundas BI are not very helpful in identifying the root cause. Making these changes will bring a lot of change to the end-user experience.

It's stable, it keeps on improving and the technical support is excellent
I think a lot of users aren't having fun using SAP because it requires putting in a lot of information by keyboard directly because it requires some coding, so this is one area for improvement. From a user point of view, SAP is a complex system where you can learn and teach, so another area for improvement in the solution is that it needs to be more user-friendly. In the next release of SAP, I want it to have a friendlier menu for its users.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution has a good drag-and-drop feature for creating dashboards."
"Out of the box, Dundas BI does almost everything needed for an intuitive dashboard, and anything else can be scripted."
"End to end enterprise solution where there is only one portal to connect to data, ETL and visualize data in a flexible and interactive way with the ability for users to do their self service analysis."
"We have greatly improved accessibility and visibility into our data and reduced the number of manually created reports and one-off data pull requests."
"Our users are happy because we use the flexibility of Dundas to provide highly customized and targeted solutions that give justice to the many different use cases we need to cover."
"Cool drill down features along with many parameter options that allow lots of freedom for data analysis."
"As we are working as "digital transformakers," this product helped us to transform our clients' businesses to be data-driven, and added business value."
"The Layers feature organizes my work and makes it easier, instead of having to use scripting to show and hide when drilling down."
"Beautiful visualizations."
"This solution is easy to use, and it is unbelievable to use for operations and exploration."
"It is fairly easy and fast when it comes to using it."
"It seemed to be fairly user friendly."
"This is a tool that gives more power to the user."
"I think rapid development, geospatial coding, using it to connect to multiple data sources are all good selling points for it."
"We were all sitting in a conference room, four of us, and we watched a YouTube video, which is eight minutes long, and after that we were able to build a couple of dashboards by ourselves, just from that one watch and learn session."
"We’ve created several dashboards that display large sets of data in an insightful and easily digestible way."

Cons

"For every object, references are generated, but sometimes, there was a problem with the references overlapping each other. Everything would go off. It would stop working, and then from the admin side, people had to do something to bring it up again."
"The addition of funnel charts to the visualization options would be great."
"I cannot select a visualization and see what filters are connected to it."
"Lacks sufficient online support."
"A few more different data visualizations wouldn't hurt."
"For a developer, it is really annoying that the Solution Explorer is not visible unless you have something checked out."
"The API they have can do just about anything, but their documentation on the API and examples are only for some of the basics."
"Some wonky web-based issues but nothing serious."
"It needs the ability to drill down more. Analyzing data with Lumira at times becomes a bit difficult."
"It needs an easier printing feature."
"I'm not a fan of using SAP Lumira because it requires putting in a lot of information by keyboard directly because it requires some coding, so this is one area for improvement. From a user point of view, SAP Lumira is a complex system to learn and teach, so another area for improvement in the solution is that it needs to be more user-friendly."
"I think probably what I was trying to do at the time was create some sort of map if you will. I work a lot with freight data, transportation data and I've been trying to find a solution to show volumes and distances out of a specific point so if we've got a distribution center in Dallas, Texas, something that I can just drop the data in and by zip code it will show a heat map of the zip codes that we're shipping to and I don't recall Lumira being able to do that."
"From an enterprise supported tool, I find that a little wanting."
"An area of improvement, for sure, is the flexibility of the visualization."
"Lumira's capabilities feel like that of a store app with the intuitiveness of a desktop app, which is not a good combination."
"Don't waste your time. Lumira falls short of its competitors in this space both in capabilities and in ease of use."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I'm not aware of its cost. Its licensing was probably role-wise. Most of us had reader access, editor access, or developer access. For admin, there were certain restrictions. So, I'm assuming it had role-wise licensing."
"I am not majorly involved in its licensing. We are not the end license purchaser of the Dundas BI. It costs somewhere around $4,000 a year for the enterprise solution, but I am not sure."
"In terms of cost, SAP Lumira is less affordable."
"PowerBI is way more capable at a much better price point: $10 per user without all the associated setup costs."
