Has supported flexible multi-platform backups and improved over time
Regarding the effectiveness of Dell NetWorker in terms of role-based access controls, I have experience with it, but I find it somewhat lacking in flexibility as it offers limited features, and I would rate it around seven out of ten. It is not that there is something wrong with the role-based access controls in Dell NetWorker, but it lacks many permissions or roles to assign, providing options only for administrator or user. To improve Dell NetWorker for the next release, I recommend enhancing flexibility in the policy, allowing selection of multiple options within the same policy, and addressing issues like the DNS lookup dependency to make it more controllable from Dell NetWorker itself rather than relying on other applications. Looking forward, I would like to see improved policy features and a more enhanced GUI, as it is still slow.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Technical support for this solution is very good; they are nice people and whenever we need support, they turn up and investigate, and within an hour they will start an investigation."
"The updated graphical interface is better than it used to be."
"It is the best umbrella, serving the best applications."
"This solution is very stable."
"The technical support from EMC is 10 out of 10."
"The main advantages of the product are price and support."
"It can support many different versions, both newer and older."
"Storage-wise, EMC is user-friendly."
"The reliable backup and restoring of the Salesforce data is the most valuable feature."
"The most valuable feature for our customers is the restore functionality."

Cons

"Currently, the NetWorker server only supports the Windows server bare-metal recovery, so an improvement would be built-in support for Linux and UNIX BMR."
"In my opinion, Networker is not a very good product; it's very complex compared to Veeam and other products."
"They cannot perform an incremental backup using VSS technology for SharePoint or MS SQL Server."
"The user interface is hard to use, it should be simplified. There are a lot of web-based management interfaces which they should consider."
"NetWorker's major problem is its legacy software."
"The solution could be graphically better."
"Could have a better recovery system."
"There should be total integration of the replication and cloud logistic back up on cloud."
"There is need to do the same for the other SaaS applications."
"The anonymization feature can be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We use a license without a time term. We just need to buy additional support when needed."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing an eight out of ten."
"Dell NetWorker is an expensive solution. None of the backup products are cheap. The licensing model offered is usually a five-year one."
"You have to buy the deduplication software separately from the license."
"The pricing is okay."
"We do need to purchase a license, but sometimes, it comes as a part of the Dell Data Protection Suite (DPS). It has a capacity-based licensing."
"The pricing for the telecom, government, and banking sectors is relatively affordable."
"The pricing of this solution is very good."
