Offers seamless integration with robust data privacy features
I am currently working with other companies on data center solutions. In our data center, we work with HP, Dell, and Nutanix on data center build-up and migrations. I work with Dell Data Protection Advisor for cloud, though not extensively, and we provided that solution to one customer and are awaiting their approval. I am a reseller and service provider. We implemented Dell Data Protection Advisor for data privacy, and another team handles data protection and related issues. I did not work extensively on specific features, so nothing particularly stands out. From my reseller and end customer perspective, I would rate Dell Data Protection Advisor an eight out of ten as it is a good solution.

Functional application availability
There are not many options available for AIX backup. They provide the agent for AIX, but it could be more mature, and they should improve that option. They also provide the AIX agent, which is similar to the Windows and Linux agents. Since we use AIX machines, we need to take backups of those machines. However, the options available in that agent are limited. Therefore, the new version should have improvements in that area.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I have never found any glitch in any Dell solution to date."
"The initial setup is very straightforward. Deployment typically takes about one hour. You just need one person to handle the deployment process."
"It generates very detailed reports, which makes things easier when it comes to IT auditing."
"The reporting feature and the Dell's continuous improvement of the solution are the most valuable features. The solution not only supports Dell Power Products but also other products."
"This is a stable solution."
"The deduplication is probably the most valuable feature of that requirement."
"I can increase the tool's licensing as per my requirement with no conditions applied."
"The predictive analytics feature in Dell Data Protection Advisor provides predictions about backup size and capacity for future periods."
"If you have windows machine at home and you'd like a backup, you can always download their free edition and plug in an external hard disk, and do a full backup of your laptop."
"The Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows is easy to use and performing a recovery is easy to do."
"Application awareness is very good and the speed of this solution is good."
"This is a reliable system that supports Veeam backup and recovery for Windows."
"The most valuable feature is that it's a VMware environment."
"The installation of Veeam Agent is straightforward."
"Solution provides good security."
"To do the actual backup configuration is also not too bad."

Cons

"They should empower their customers with the ability to upgrade this solution as long as it's in the same major release."
"The product could be improved by addressing intermittent collector failures affecting status reports' accuracy."
"Dell Data Protection Advisor is somewhat complicated, but this depends on the software limitations."
"Some minor adjustments could be made regarding the graphical interface and customization options."
"There is a steep learning curve to use the interface and to create new reports, this could be made easier. If the solution could provide more drag and drop functionality to build more advanced reports that would be very helpful."
"From a service perspective, improvements are needed at Dell because when customers call, it takes a long time to get a response for calls or emails. Response time is the main problem that needs addressing."
"It is difficult to manage the solution with the available tools. You need to know exactly what are you are doing."
"The solution requires more integration with our other solutions. I know that they have full integration with VMware because it is also from EMC. However, we have to have better integration with Microsoft and Nutanix as well."
"While the Veeam agent is perfect, sometimes the agent doesn't install in Windows."
"I would like to see the ability for incremental backups and reverse backups."
"I would like there to be more integration with other platforms."
"The solution could use some updates to minor details omitted from current reporting."
"There should be an option to use the solution for physical machines."
"The price of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows could improve."
"Troubleshooting is very hard."
"Maybe in the future, they could do something better with the user interface and the performance, but so far it's a really good, efficient solution."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"You need to make an upfront payment for three, five, or seven years and renew the licenses for support. We can do an annual maintenance contract with Dell. I would rate the product's pricing a six out of ten."
"It's not very expensive — I think the price is fair."
"If the customer has huge lineup of Dell Products then they receive discount on the pricing."
"You have to procure the license when you are ordering or quoting for Dell Data Protection Suite (DPS). DPS is bundled with the suite and comes with a license. However, if you purchase NetWorker separately then you will have to procure the license for DPS separately."
"The product pricing has been satisfactory, particularly with the economy of scale in our agreement."
"The product is affordable."
"For pricing, I would rate Dell 2 out of 5. It's affordable."
"We purchased a three-year license, and I think that the prices are ok."
"The licensing fees are billed on a yearly basis, and the fees are much lower than what I pay for NetBackup."
"We are on an annual license to use Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows. There are not any additional fees to use the solution."
"For the licensing of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows, the customer can choose to pay monthly or yearly. It's up to the customer."
"The pricing model is based on CPU and must be declared as Microsoft or VMware licensing."
"We pay for a three-year subscription to use Veeam Agent."
"The solution is free of cost for end users but for enterprise use, a license per user is required."
"The solution is inexpensive, more so than other products."
