Offers seamless integration with robust data privacy features
I am currently working with other companies on data center solutions. In our data center, we work with HP, Dell, and Nutanix on data center build-up and migrations. I work with Dell Data Protection Advisor for cloud, though not extensively, and we provided that solution to one customer and are awaiting their approval. I am a reseller and service provider. We implemented Dell Data Protection Advisor for data privacy, and another team handles data protection and related issues. I did not work extensively on specific features, so nothing particularly stands out. From my reseller and end customer perspective, I would rate Dell Data Protection Advisor an eight out of ten as it is a good solution.

Functional application availability
There are not many options available for AIX backup. They provide the agent for AIX, but it could be more mature, and they should improve that option. They also provide the AIX agent, which is similar to the Windows and Linux agents. Since we use AIX machines, we need to take backups of those machines. However, the options available in that agent are limited. Therefore, the new version should have improvements in that area.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable aspects of the solution are the compression and the duplication."
"The reporting feature and the Dell's continuous improvement of the solution are the most valuable features. The solution not only supports Dell Power Products but also other products."
"This is a stable solution."
"The deduplication is probably the most valuable feature of that requirement."
"The initial setup is very straightforward. Deployment typically takes about one hour. You just need one person to handle the deployment process."
"The solution is easy to use, flexible and has a lot of out-of-the-box functionality. You can configure the dashboards or you can use a script. However, to fully utilize its capabilities you will want to use a lot of scripts which you will need advanced training. The reports can be customized for many things, such as chargeback billing."
"I can increase the tool's licensing as per my requirement with no conditions applied."
"It supports our chargeback process by identifying resource users, which helps ensure that departments are billed accurately for data protection services rather than receiving them for free."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to navigate inside a backup point to look for a specific folder or data you want to recover."
"The solution is useful for taking backups for end-user laptops and end-user workstations where data is involved."
"The product is free to use. We don't have to pay for a license."
"Technical support is good. They're very responsive. It depends on the timezone responding, but I usually get a response within three hours of creating a ticket."
"The most valuable feature is application availability, which allows us to monitor all agents and accounts."
"We found the initial setup to be quite simple."
"The initial setup, if it is error-free, is very simple."
"The user interface is good. It provides a lot of information."

Cons

"Dell Data Protection Advisor's feature for data domain protection needs enhancement."
"The solution requires more integration with our other solutions. I know that they have full integration with VMware because it is also from EMC. However, we have to have better integration with Microsoft and Nutanix as well."
"They should empower their customers with the ability to upgrade this solution as long as it's in the same major release."
"The functionality of the Data Protection Advisor is limited and is something that is lacking in this solution. Other solutions like CloudIQ and DDMC provide a much better outlook on how data protection should be done."
"The product could be improved by addressing intermittent collector failures affecting status reports' accuracy."
"Some minor adjustments could be made regarding the graphical interface and customization options."
"From a service perspective, improvements are needed at Dell because when customers call, it takes a long time to get a response for calls or emails. Response time is the main problem that needs addressing."
"The stability of the solution needs improvement for stand alone users."
"The solution lacks instant recovery."
"I would like to see the capability for remote installation of third party applications added( Like installing WinRar MS Office etc..) , and Firewall for servers."
"In the next release, I would like to see it easier to implement."
"The stability of this solution needs to be improved."
"A lower price would always be beneficial."
"I've found a lot of difficulties on the initial setup and especially in terms of credentials. We really need a Window OS. It doesn't like the domain admin account. it's a primary permission issue."
"I can't think of anything that may be missing."
"It fulfills our needs in terms of features. In terms of improvements, they can maybe improve its documentation."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The product pricing has been satisfactory, particularly with the economy of scale in our agreement."
"It's not very expensive — I think the price is fair."
"The product is affordable."
"For pricing, I would rate Dell 2 out of 5. It's affordable."
"You have to procure the license when you are ordering or quoting for Dell Data Protection Suite (DPS). DPS is bundled with the suite and comes with a license. However, if you purchase NetWorker separately then you will have to procure the license for DPS separately."
"If the customer has huge lineup of Dell Products then they receive discount on the pricing."
"You need to make an upfront payment for three, five, or seven years and renew the licenses for support. We can do an annual maintenance contract with Dell. I would rate the product's pricing a six out of ten."
"We purchased a three-year license, and I think that the prices are ok."
"For the licensing of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows, the customer can choose to pay monthly or yearly. It's up to the customer."
"We have the Community Edition and I believe we bought a license for 200 instances. Veeam Agent is mainly used for our branch offices. Those only have one or two Hyper-V servers, so it's covered with the Community Edition. Basically, it's free. I remember Veeam 7.0 or 8.0 wasn't free, but the Community Edition is."
"The cost for its licenses is reasonable and as per industry standards."
"The solution is free of cost for end users but for enterprise use, a license per user is required."
"There are costs in addition to the standard licensing fees, and pricing can be a disadvantage or a weakness for this solution."
"We have an annual license."
"We are on an annual license to use Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows. There are not any additional fees to use the solution."
