Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The deduplication is probably the most valuable feature of that requirement.""It generates very detailed reports, which makes things easier when it comes to IT auditing.""The initial setup is very straightforward. Deployment typically takes about one hour. You just need one person to handle the deployment process.""I can increase the tool's licensing as per my requirement with no conditions applied.""This is a stable solution.""It has a lot of stock reports. I believe over 300 canned reports, which for the most part meet a lot of generic needs.""The platform's most valuable features are data protection and retention.""The solution is easy to use, flexible and has a lot of out-of-the-box functionality. You can configure the dashboards or you can use a script. However, to fully utilize its capabilities you will want to use a lot of scripts which you will need advanced training. The reports can be customized for many things, such as chargeback billing."

"The most valuable feature is that it's a VMware environment.""The most valuable features of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows are the backups, ease of use, and report manager.""We found the initial setup to be quite simple.""The most valuable features are the flexibility and stability of the product.""The interface of this solution is quite good.""Technical support is good. They're very responsive. It depends on the timezone responding, but I usually get a response within three hours of creating a ticket.""This is a good product with a simple environment.""I don't have any major problems with the agent connectivity with Microsoft applications or Microsoft Azure."

Cons
"Customization of reports or creating new reports can be difficult. Users need to have a deep knowledge of SQL. 70-80% of customers can't seem to understand how to do it. They don't know how to address reporting. If Dell EMC could simplify it, it would benefit the end-user.""It is difficult to manage the solution with the available tools. You need to know exactly what are you are doing.""There is a steep learning curve to use the interface and to create new reports, this could be made easier. If the solution could provide more drag and drop functionality to build more advanced reports that would be very helpful.""The stability of the solution needs improvement for stand alone users.""The functionality of the Data Protection Advisor is limited and is something that is lacking in this solution. Other solutions like CloudIQ and DDMC provide a much better outlook on how data protection should be done.""We have encountered issues where we were unable to pull data from the database server. It should also improve the backward compatibility.""The solution requires more integration with our other solutions. I know that they have full integration with VMware because it is also from EMC. However, we have to have better integration with Microsoft and Nutanix as well.""Dell Data Protection Advisor's feature for data domain protection needs enhancement."

More Dell Data Protection Advisor Cons →

"The stability of this solution needs to be improved.""Troubleshooting is very hard.""The backups can go slow.""I would like to see the capability for remote installation of third party applications added( Like installing WinRar MS Office etc..) , and Firewall for servers.""The solution could use some updates to minor details omitted from current reporting.""The solution lacks instant recovery.""Maybe in the future, they could do something better with the user interface and the performance, but so far it's a really good, efficient solution.""I would like to see the ability for incremental backups and reverse backups."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It's not very expensive — I think the price is fair."
  • "You have to procure the license when you are ordering or quoting for Dell Data Protection Suite (DPS). DPS is bundled with the suite and comes with a license. However, if you purchase NetWorker separately then you will have to procure the license for DPS separately."
  • "For pricing, I would rate Dell 2 out of 5. It's affordable."
  • "You need to make an upfront payment for three, five, or seven years and renew the licenses for support. We can do an annual maintenance contract with Dell. I would rate the product's pricing a six out of ten."
  • "If the customer has huge lineup of Dell Products then they receive discount on the pricing."
  • "The product is affordable."

  • "Our licensing fees are on a yearly basis."
  • "Pricing is based on license packaging and duration. Longer term licenses are less per year and license packages also offer a discount."
  • "There are costs in addition to the standard licensing fees, and pricing can be a disadvantage or a weakness for this solution."
  • "We purchased a three-year license, and I think that the prices are ok."
  • "The pricing is good."
  • "The licensing fees are billed on a yearly basis, and the fees are much lower than what I pay for NetBackup."
  • "The pricing model is based on CPU and must be declared as Microsoft or VMware licensing."
  • "We have a cloud provider agreement with Veeam. We are also paying for the agent."
