Backup operations have become faster and daily recoveries run smoothly for on‑prem workloads
When compared to other tools, the deduplication in Cohesity DataProtect is very fast, and the restore performance is better than other tools. Global deduplication ensures that only unique data blocks are stored, significantly reducing storage consumption. Cohesity DataProtect's dashboard displays options and errors clearly, making it easy to access and understand how to fix issues. Cohesity DataProtect's ability to start processes automatically without manual selections enhances its reliability. Cohesity DataProtect's architecture ensures that agent installations automatically reflect in the dashboard, allowing for seamless integration into backup jobs. This improves operational efficiency, ensuring backups can be triggered without manual refreshes. Additionally, the user interface is intuitive, and the respect of the N-1 rule during updates helps prevent client-affecting issues.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable features of Cohesity DataProtect are SpanFS and the handling of hybrid workloads."
"The most valuable feature is ease of use."
"It works well with backup virtual machines and SQL services we have been using."
"I found value in the instant recovery with DataMove. I found value in the protection group model for applying policies to VMs. And in the overall UI navigation and the way that the application is laid out in the web browser."
"It has greatly simplified backups and recovery for our organization."
"The four independent node cluster architecture is redundant. It maintains data integrity and load balancing."
"We were looking for a robust solution that gives us scalability and recovery."
"Cohesity has made the pain of doing restores disappear with the ability to open recovery and select files and folders, then have the ability to type in the file or document name and have it show up."
"The flexible ways you can get to the data and the options that it gives you for backing up your valuable data are what make its offsite storage so valuable."
"The most valuable feature for me is the policy management capabilities"

Cons

"You need to put the full name instead of a few letters while searching for backup. It should also improve customization."
"When a new release is launched, there may be some bugs that need to be addressed by the developers. However, they promptly resolve these issues, and the software runs smoothly once again."
"Replication between two Cohesity clusters should be be improved in the next releases."
"The platform has certain limitations, mostly stemming from the restrictions imposed by the VMware API and some other factors. One area where there is room for improvement is the tracking of replicated copies, especially in the context of remote archive duplication."
"The support team could do a better job. Sometimes finding the correct person is cumbersome and time consuming."
"Physical RDMs on virtual machines could be a bit easier to configure and plan out."
"Currently, the product is lacking some features like BMR and backup for the cluster, but I think these are things that would be added in a few months."
"I thought physical RDM's were supported, but apparently that is not the case."
"I would like to see more integration with different platforms."
"Basically, the only thing I do not like about it, it was keyed off Lotus Notes."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Licensing is per node and per protected terabyte. You will also pay 10-15% annually for support."
"If SQL is in heavy use at your location, I would highly recommend narrowing your PoC testing to Cohesity and Rubrik. They will be competitive on pricing with each other, so really put them through the paces."
"The tool's licensing costs are yearly. It is cheaper than other backup solutions."
"From my last assessment, the pricing for Cohesity DataProtect was reasonable. Compared to its closest competitor, Rubrik, I found Rubrik's pricing to be somewhat high-end. While Rubrik may have more advanced security features than Cohesity DataProtect currently, Cohesity DataProtect is releasing a new solution in the near future that will compete directly with Rubrik."
"Pricing, setup costs, etc. are pretty typical. The initial cost for Cohesity was less than other products the we evaluated. Cohesity's pricing does offer benefits as DR target costs are less than other solutions. You are not charged for DataProtect licensing for target DR data consumption."
"The tool's pricing is average."
"Ensure that you understand the per TB licensing model. Also, Exchange backups are not native to Cohesity and require Kroll."
"We purchased support from Cohesity to ensure that should we face an issue, we don't have to deal with different service providers."
