Near-zero downtime has protected critical workloads and now simplifies hybrid cloud recovery
The best features of HPE Zerto Software are mainly very sophisticated and relevant to the current market. The data protection CDP part has real-time replication, unlike other solutions that have snapshot backups. We can set it up hourly, making it ideal for use with workloads. Another attraction is the near-zero RTO, with automated failover within minutes and one-click failover and failback. Currently, we are using a hybrid cloud solution, and HPE Zerto Software supports multi-cloud environments, making it easy to migrate between on-premises and cloud. Regarding the impact of HPE Zerto Software on our RTOs, we have near-zero RTO, meaning the system must be back online within thirty minutes if we measure the time. It is very quick to recover services. With HPE Zerto Software's near-synchronous replication, we have some CDP protection, so we typically write interceptions along with some asynchronous replication. There is almost real-time replication available.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The platform's most effective feature is quickly recovering virtual instances into a separate environment."
"The failover feature is great for getting VMs up and running at a secondary site."
"The continuation to the public cloud has been especially helpful where I can pretty much work with things like hosts and clusters as part of the data center."
"It is convenient to use because the API allows for seamless integration when performing our day-to-day operations."
"HPE Zerto Software has positively impacted my organization by keeping our data always available and business operations running."
"Overall, it's a fantastic product."
"The instant recovery at DR locations is the most valuable feature. We're required to do periodic DR tests of critical databases, including Oracle and Microsoft SQL. We have recovery point objectives set for specific databases and we need to be able to achieve them. Zerto helps solve that business problem."
"Using this product has enabled our leaders to guide the business through our transition to the cloud."
"Zerto saved us a lot of money compared to the cost of replicating at the LUN level. It also really simplified it and gave us shorter RTOs and RPOs."

Cons

"They could add more intelligence features in the workflow through automation."
"HPE Zerto Software needs improvements regarding its dependence on storage vendors; the rising hardware prices lead to numerous vendors entering the market, and HPE Zerto Software must enhance its API integrations continuously as new storage vendors emerge across different geographies."
"They definitely have room for improvement in a couple of areas."
"In Azure... We have to make sure that every resource group is tagged correctly, with the correct team and department because we have to bill them at the end of the month. The problem is that Zerto does not have that ability. When the product fails over or migrates a VM from on-prem, or even within Azure, to another site, it does not give you the option of selecting an existing resource group."
"We have had some issues running Linux virtual machines on the new version. There were some issues with virtual replication adapters on Cisco UCS hosts running VMware vCenter 8."
"When I have a technical question, it sometimes takes a while for tech support to respond."
"The primary concern expressed by all server users is the lack of robust integration features."
"Zerto's connectivity with automation platforms could be improved. For example, vCenter can use a VMware-developed tool called Site Recovery Manager. That can be integrated with automation platforms such as Terraform, Ansible, Chef, or Puppet, to perform automated, self-sufficient recoveries to essentially avoid any downtime. To my knowledge, Zerto does not have integration with those platforms."
"In terms of improvement, we have VMware and Nutanix, and we are looking for solutions to perform migration between these two setups to save costs."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The additional cost is cloud storage, which the public cloud provider charges."
"Zerto is a little bit on the higher side in terms of pricing. It would be better if they had a pay-as-you-go package."
"Zerto is fairly expensive, but worth it."
"I have heard that it is expensive, but that is not my world."
"Nothing is cheap, but Zerto represents decent value."
"Zerto is reasonably price for the product that you're getting. We keep on buying more licenses, so it's a good price."
"The pricing for this solution is reasonable."
"Zerto is more cost-effective than Azure."
"At close to $1,000 a license, it makes it very hard to protect all of your environment, especially for a smaller shop."
