Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Ability to move your virtual machines from one host to another.""The onboarding process is pretty straightforward.""Citrix Hypervisor does a great job overall, such as the virtualization of the host. It's very easy to manage the virtual machine, to create, and configure high availability.""Scripting can automate procedures.""Citrix Hypervisor is quick to deploy and easy to manage.""Installing Hypervisor is really simple. It's the simplest setup I've ever done before. We used a team to deploy it, and it doesn't take much time, like two or three hours tops.""I've found the following features to be the most valuable: user personalization layer, app layering, provisioning, and notification services for integration between different domains.""The continued uptime of our virtual machines is good."

"I haven't faced any inconveniences working with this solution. It is very easy to use.""Because the setup is so easy, this is a solution that can be used at a moment's notice.""Great at solving connection problems.""We are able to simultaneously run multiple operating systems in a single machine and have virtually no performance hit.""It is much more mature compared to Nutanix or SimpliVity when it's cross-platform based.""It will not harm any of the computer settings to run a specific program. For example, if a program needs a specific security policy, we don't have to use the shared configuration. We have an individual copy of Windows installed on the virtual machine, so anybody can access that. It helps us a lot.""VMware Workstation is great for migrating and patching operating systems.""The most valuable features of VMware Workstation are the speed of access and quality of upgrade. Those are the more important and pertinent aspects as far as we were concerned. Functionality and features were relevant for the customers. What a customer chose, we had to make sure that it operated."

Cons
"You need a licensed account to look up technical support.""Live migration is something that can be improved.""Overall, I can't think of a feature that is lacking. We've been pretty satisfied overall.""It needs to have a more robust backup solution.""I find that the features in Citrix Hypervisor are not as rich as with VMware. It would be a benefit if they had some of the other features VMware has, such as the ability to expand a drive on the fly. You do not have to take down the machine to do it but in Citrix you do.""Citrix could provide more tools to help the client manage the solution because we need to build our own tools in some cases. Everything is available through PowerShell, but then you need to build your own scripts to do the more advanced work.""The main problem with Citrix Hypervisor is getting readily available backup solutions for it. It would be wonderful if Hypervisor were better integrated with third-party backup solutions.""I am not very sure about how flexible Citrix Hypervisor is with different types of infrastructures. I only know it is flexible with Nutanix, but I am not sure if it is also flexible with others. They can make its integration with other platforms or OEMs easy. They should also make it easy for users to manage their infrastructure. Citrix should make compatibility information related to a hypervisor easily available in a datasheet. Citrix isn't really recognized in this part of the world, and they need to expand their solution and make it more available. There are a lot of customers and companies that are looking for a solution like Citrix, and it should be available in this part of the world. They need to educate people more. Technically, it is good and flexible and has good ability, but it is not as much known as VMware or Microsoft. Their support should also be improved. Currently, if you don't have an updated version, they will not give you the attention."

More Citrix Hypervisor Cons →

"The GUI interface could be improved.""The interface is a little wonky and needs to be improved.""The big issue that we've always had with VMware, was the disparity between what was presented for a Windows-based client and a Linux-based client. The Windows client was always two or three releases ahead of the Linux client. We always wanted VMware to change and improve the feature sets between the client connector on Linux and on Windows.""Performance could be improved, it's somewhat clunky.""The price should be reduced.""I would want to see features included that make deployment easier.""My experience with Workstation is limited, so I don't know all the functionalities of this tool. Maybe Workstation could add some more compatibility with other vendors.""Installing VMware Workstation isn't so easy. It's highly complex compared to Windows. I rate it four out of 10 for ease of installation. Setting up a remote desktop only takes a minute or so, but the Workstation itself takes some time."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Citrix is a good low-cost alternative to VMware, so if budgeting is an issue then I would recommend it."
  • "The licensing is straight forward based on usage and features."
  • "I am fine with their license support. What we have right now is permanent, so I don't have a problem with their license."
  • "There is a license required to use this solution. You need a license on every server, but the license is more for support than anything else. The cost is not expensive, it is a fraction of the cost of VMware. When you look at the cost overall and features, Citrix Hypervisor has a very attractive offering."
  • "The cost of this product is not high."
  • "Citrix Hypervisor is a licensed product, and customers who buy the Citrix XenDesktop get Citrix Hypervisor for free. If they don't buy the license for Citrix XenDesktop, they'll need to pay for Citrix Hypervisor and its price is high. Pricing is even higher than VMware. The licensing policy for Citrix Hypervisor is good. It's straightforward. The only issue is the price because it's an expensive product."
