A stable solution with an intuitive interface and quick customer service
I have been working with Fortinet FortiGate, WatchGuard, Sophos, and SonicWall. I'm not as comfortable with SonicWall because of their UI and limitations. I prefer Fortinet above all other options. When it comes to configuration, I am confident in my ability to handle various tasks, including creating policies such as firewall rules, web policies, and application policies. Additionally, I can configure VPNs and implement load balancing, among other tasks. Overall, I feel much more comfortable working with Fortinet. Fortinet has made significant improvements by integrating AI with firewalls for threat analysis and prevention. In the past 2-3 years, they have launched FortiSASE and SIEM, and they also provide SOC services. Both Palo Alto and Fortinet FortiGate are excellent. While Fortinet FortiGate comes at higher prices, the functionality and support justify the cost. They promptly resolve firmware issues and inform all support providers about configuration changes.

Unified policies streamline network management but complex licensing requires attention
Cisco Secure Firewall has some growth opportunities in terms of visibility and control capabilities regarding managing encrypted traffic. It has the ability to analyze encrypted traffic, and there is potential for more integration with APIs and AI to enhance these capabilities. Cisco Secure Firewall needs improvement in deployment time and the capability to access the CLI during support calls. I often encounter issues when technical support uses a CLI that is not familiar to me while troubleshooting through the GUI. My ongoing complaint for the last six years has been the lack of CLI functionality, which hinders my ability to work on the firewall, alongside concerns regarding deployment time. For the next release, they should look at the features offered by competitors such as Fortinet, including the ability to perform packet capture directly from the interface. If they enhanced their troubleshooting efficiency related to packet capture for each specific rule, it would simplify the process significantly.

User-Friendly, improves security, and gives me more control over my VoIP
We purchased the solution and we are partners. I haven't had a chance to go through all of the features and what this solution offers, but I think that it has an integrated VPN. I am looking forward to using another VPN. I am anxious to see it, as we are going to set that up for one of the clients. At this time, I am not able to add any comments on how this solution can be improved, because this solution does what it is asked to do. I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

"It has improved our organization with control data."
"The solution offers very easy usability, the product can scale well, the solution is extremely reliable, the pricing and licensing models are pretty good, and the user interface, both the web and CLI versions, are very good."
"Customer Service: Very good. Technical Support: Very good."
"Overall, I would recommend the product, as it comes with a very good set of features and we have been quite happy with it."
"It has improved the security posture and visibility of our traffic."
"The security the solution offers is very good; security-wise, it's the top in the world."
"It helped us a lot with our VPNs for the home office during COVID. There has been more security and flexibility for VPNs and other applications."
"The AnyConnect remote access VPN gives us an easy way to deploy remote working for our users."
"Management Console and user profiling to define activities."
"Its a nice professional product with lots of scalability."
"I have worked on the best firewalls in the market, and Cisco ASA is one of the best."
"The feature I find most valuable is the Cisco VPN Interconnection."
"The firepower sensors have been great; they do a good job of dropping unwanted traffic."
"This solution is user-friendly."
"This solution has given me more security, I have more control over my VoIP solution, and I can pick up separate VNs."

Cons

"I think there could be more QoS features"
"Sometimes, we open a ticket, and it is very difficult to get a solution."
"The most important feature to have is zero trust, which is lacking in Fortinet FortiGate IPS."
"Its performance can be better. We have had performance issues in the past, but we sometimes tend to find that it is more related to what we do in our network than anything else. It is quite a good product, and there isn't much to improve."
"Fortinet FortiGate could improve by having more capabilities for troubleshooting VPN connections. For example, I do get some feedback about the current status, but I could use some history and logging of important events. The information is logged in our Syslog server, but I could use that information from the device. If they could provide a GUI to have some more insight on what's going with my VPN would be useful."
"In our environment, we need multiple virtual firewalls to facilitate end users and customers. Fortinet doesn't provide that but they really should include that feature."
"Its technical support could be better."
"Scalability is one of the disadvantages. When it comes to scalability, you have to actually change the box."
"It would be great if they would add web filtering functionality to this product."
"It needs improvement as a "Next-Generation" firewall solution. In addition, it needs to be more user-friendly."
"I would like to see improvement when you create policies on Snort 3 IPS on Cisco Firepower. On Snort 2, it was more like a UI page where you had some multiple choices where you could tweak your config. On Snort 3, the idea is more to build some rules on the text file or JSON file, then push it. So, I would like to see a lot of improvements here."
"Managing various product integrations, such as Umbrella, is challenging."
"URL AVC Advanced malware protection"
"I find deploying Cisco Secure Firewall to be a little bit challenging, but once it is implemented on our network, it is stable with no problems or issues."
"I would like for them to develop better integration with other security platforms."
"The initial setup could be simplified, as it can be complex for new users."
"I haven't seen any feature that will allow me direct authentication for a VPN solution."
"I haven't seen any feature that will allow me direct authentication for a VPN solution."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Fortinet Secure SD-WAN delivered the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) per Mbps among all other vendors."
"In my opinion, the pricing of the product is reasonable."
"The price is okay, so far so good."
"Go for long term pricing negotiated at the time of purchase."
"Fortinet FortiGate is cheaper than Palo Alto. It is about 20% cheaper."
"The licensing costs are very low."
"It was worth the money overall. It's good value."
"The license of Fortinet FortiGate should be reduced."
"If we compare it with FortiGate and the co-existing ASA, FortiGate is better in price."
"For me, personally, as an individual, Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall is expensive."
"The product is very expensive."
"The pricing is fair compared to competitors."
"Cisco devices are for sure costly and budget could be an important constrain on selecting them as our security solution."
"Pricing is the same as other competitors. It is comparable. The licensing has gotten better. It has been easier with Smart Licensing."
"This solution might be expensive, but it is economical in the long run."
"The licensing is not good, it's confusing. I'm an engineer so I don't care about the actual price that much but the licensing part is confusing."
