Centralized management has simplified remote branch control and improved network visibility
Cisco Meraki Wireless is very powerful and very easy to manage. The solution is also integrating Cisco Catalyst Wireless products into their portfolio, and they are managing the Catalyst switches as well. The seamless roaming capabilities function well. I monitor network performance with Meraki's real-time analytics. The most useful metrics to my team are the internet performance metrics, as there is a lot of information in the dashboard that I can access. All auditing and event logs are centralized in the dashboard. When I need to apply to compliance requirements or other regulatory needs, I can have my auditing in one place, which is an advantage. I use Cisco Meraki Wireless's Layer 7 application traffic shaping with the MX and the Meraki MX Firewalls.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Configuring network policies remotely for Cisco Meraki Wireless is very useful for an organization that has many branches, as I can manage it centrally from the Meraki dashboard without having to drive to a location, even if it is 100 or more kilometers away."
"Their support is perfect. They're there 24/7, 365 days a year. Whether you email or phone in, there is always someone there to help you."
"The most valuable feature is the technology of the security that is offered."
"The primary value lies in the ease of configuration; these products seamlessly integrate, and work well together."
"Cisco provides 24/7 support"
"The flexibility, since it's a cloud service, is the most valuable feature of this solution, as well as the administration, management of the whole platform, development, and deployment options in the cloud."
"I like the status page Cisco added that shows you the health of the wireless connection."
"If you have some money, it is a good thing to buy."
"The solution is easily managed compared to other wireless solutions."
"Huawei Wireless's most valuable feature is smart antenna, a combination of informative capabilities and advanced technology."
"Installation is easy."
"You can add a lot of features, such as cloud, integration with IoT, etc. They have a lot of options available but the top feature is the performance."
"It is a stable solution...It is a scalable solution."
"It is based on 802.11ax, which is a new technology, and there are several valuable things, such as its speed and mobility, options for self-organizing networking so that it can perform operations and maintain itself, and its three interfaces are very good and user friendly."
"The most valuable thing about Huawei Wireless is that it is one of the cheapest WiFi 6 systems. Its price is very nice. The other WiFi systems cost about 15% more."
"It has all of the features that we need."

Cons

"I would like to see integration with sensors."
"The only concern is when the license has expired and it will no longer function, the entire network goes down, without any notification, or warning."
"It would be good to integrate with ISE in the future."
"The logging sometimes doesn't give us the granularity needed."
"Cisco Meraki Wireless LAN could improve by having more granularity in terms of the data displayed. However, I understand that with Cisco Meraki Wireless LAN, you need to have a compromise point to what are the functions that you're going to provide to the users versus ease of use. More granularity in terms of the data and the things that you can do to the devices would be helpful. For example, when we wanted to make a change, restriction, or segregation within Palo Alto, we can go to the level of detail that we want. The amount of detail provided is amazing, it is very granular. However, it comes with much more difficulty, it requires a technical understanding of the environment compared to Cisco Meraki Wireless LAN."
"Because it's so easy for the common person to use, it has become less desirable for people who know the technology."
"It would be better if they enable full integration with Cisco's cloud-based network in the next release."
"The error logs need to be much more comprehensive."
"The demo program is an area for improvement in Huawei Wireless as it's hard to use."
"The solution's integration with some AAA servers like Aruba ClearPass is difficult and could be improved."
"The security of the solution could be better in the future."
"Technical support is not ideal. They sometimes cannot connect to the wireless access point or their connection drops."
"This solution has issues with bugs and instability."
"The solution could be easier to use."
"They should actually first test the equipment thoroughly and then launch it."
"This solution has issues with bugs and instability."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"You have to renew your contract every year, or for three or for five years. If you do not pay right away they will suspend your subscription."
"Meraki is a very good solution, but the price is quite high for small markets."
"Its price is okay for an enterprise. Its licensing is the most painful. If you hear anything bad about Cisco, it's about that. We're supposed to be one of the resellers but had to come back down to become a user. It's really bizarre."
"The pricing is based on a subscription and is a bit high at the moment."
"My client has made comments on the price, indicating it is expensive, however you do receive a lot for the money that you did spend on the solution. The price of the annual renewal of the licensing of Cisco Meraki Wireless LAN is a little high. We wish the price would drop."
"The price is on the high side when compared to Aruba."
"Since it's been acquired by Cisco, it's an even higher cost."
"This solution is slightly more expensive than others, such as Ruckus Wi-Fi."
"Right now, my company made a one-time purchase of Huawei Wireless. It depends, but in most of the projects where customers buy hardware with some software, it's a one-time purchase. Customers pay a yearly fee for other projects for support and additional software features, such as email protection firmware updates for cybersecurity. You'll also receive information about the latest attacks and get more protection if you pay an additional fee apart from the standard license fee. You'll also get an additional warranty for Huawei Wireless, a yearly contract."
"Its price is reasonable."
"It is not monthly. It is a kind of perpetual licensing. We pay once depending on the kind of services we need to deliver. There are no licensing fees."
"Extras come with a surcharge."
"Huawei licenses can be for either a one-year up to a five-year period and also apply for the tiers."
"The platform is less costly than one of its competitors. I rate the pricing a three out of ten."
"Huawei Wireless is a cheaper solution when you compare it to the cost of other similar solutions. It has one of the most competitive prices out there."
"I would rate the tool's pricing a seven out of ten."
