Advanced threat prevention has protected our perimeter and simplifies daily security operations
Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) can be improved in several areas. First, the interface could be a little more intuitive for new users. The Smart Console is powerful, but it has a steep learning curve when you start using it. Some simple functions for common tasks would help. Second, the initial setup and configuration take quite a bit of time and expertise. It would be helpful if there were more guides, wizards, or templates to speed that up. Third, the price model could be more transparent and flexible. The license cost can add up quickly, specifically when you want to add more advanced features. Finally, I would appreciate seeing better integration with some third-party security tools we use. Right now, we have to do a lot of manual work to make everything talk to each other. Overall, these are minor things. The core product is really solid and does what it is supposed to do very well. The documentation could be more comprehensive in some areas. When we run into issues, the documentation does not have clear answers, so we end up contacting support. Speaking of support, the response time could be faster sometimes. We have had cases where we need help with a certain security issue, and it takes longer than we would prefer to get a response. As for features, it would be nice to have more general reporting options so we can customize reports for different teams and stakeholders without having to do manual work afterward. One more thing, better mobile access to the dashboard would be helpful. Sometimes we need to check on security alerts when we are away from the office, and the mobile experience is not as smooth as it could be. Again, these are improvements that would make it even better, not issues with the core product itself.

Very good IPS, anti-malware, and VPN capabilities
This product has now served more than 30 years in the market and has evolved tremendously over the years. Check Point administration and management help you through visibility and performance. Even though its price is high, you have one management platform that has a great user experience and is easy to use. The log viewer and its indexing is especially useful. It can lower your administration time and can also be used with an API. If you want a perfect and centralized solution that gives you fast access to all of your network areas, this is the right product. The new AI functions will speed up the administration even more.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"There are also additional features, compared to a Layer 4 or Layer 3 firewall, such as AV signatures and devices, which are very helpful for securing the company's network."
"Check Point NGFW makes it easier to handle and use the firewall efficiently."
"It has allowed us to grow in a safe way and in accordance with our particular needs."
"Multilayered protection is provided thanks to Check Point, as security is achieved both on the endpoint side as well as the firewall side."
"It helped clients get through big audits for PCI, which has been very cost-effective for them."
"The software upgrade procedure is very easy; it just needs few clicks & we are done."
"Working for one of the largest companies, I found that using Check Point has made firewall provisioning very easy for us, and integration with the above-mentioned tools has eased the process of PCI audit, security compliance, and rule recertification."
"Check Point NGFW has proven to be a reliable firewall, offering great security while also being rather easy to manage."
"Technical support has been good."
"VPN clients are easy to use and deploy."
"The application control of the solution is something that I find very valuable."
"Its most outstanding feature is content filtering."
"The product offers fairly good centralized administration and monitoring with decent capabilities that allow the administrator to have relevent control over devices."
"It allowed us to have content filtering and commercially available firewall perimeter management that had been available since 1997, was very functional, and was one of the best brands that had been securing the network."

Cons

"Check Point solutions have always been more complex to deploy than their competitors."
"Right now, we have a problem with DLP and this problem has become very big."
"We can virtualize the physical firewall in a virtual environment. However, the virtual environment is not stable at all."
"The antivirus feature is a little bit weak and should be improved."
"They need to offer quicker resolution and maintenance during downtime."
"I would suggest improving the usability of the command line of Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) firewall, because the commands are hard to remember since it is based on Linux."
"The exterior of the physical device can be improved with the use of a display and not just simple lights."
"We also use Cisco, and, in comparison, Cisco's support is way better in terms of how helpful and responsive they are."
"It should have excellent integration with the other security tools."
"Every time we made a change, the policy took about three minutes to apply, and obviously, when there were emergency changes or changes that we needed that were escalated, they were not modified very, very quickly."
"The reporting from the file or reporting from mobile access needs improvement. The solution, in general, could use better reporting tools."
"Pricing is sometimes challenging, although it brings a lot of features."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Each blade requires that you have a license."
"We had to get separate licenses for the different blades. It would be nice to have a feature where we can get the multiple licenses all-in-one instead."
"The pricing is good. It is less than Palo Alto's firewalls. Check Point has the same features as Palo Alto, but the licensing and cost of these firewalls are not too expensive. It is one of the best firewalls in the market in this range."
"Pricing is a little high compared to competitive firewalls, but it is easy to go through the licensing steps."
"It can be expensive, but it's value for money. What you pay for is what you get."
"Palo Alto is somehow not as good as Check Point, budget-wise and performance-wise. Palo Alto is more costly than Check Point."
"We have to consider things, cost-wise, when we are expanding into other locations. We don't have the budget to use it in other platforms... Check Point is really costly."
"While it may be slightly more expensive, when compared with competition it is reasonable."
