Real-Time Blocking Improves Response and Reduces Manual Logs
The best feature in my experience with Check Point IPS is the real-time prevention because it uses thousands of preventive protections based on both known exploit signatures and behavioral analysis to detect and block threats before they reach vulnerable systems. I find the behavioral analysis feature of Check Point IPS to be a most valuable feature because it can detect sophisticated threats that do not match known signatures. For example, when I need to view anomaly detections, instead of relying solely on known attack patterns, Check Point IPS monitors network traffic for unusual behavior such as unexpected protocol use, abnormal data flows, or suspicious command sequences. Check Point IPS impacts my organization positively because it has had a strong positive impact by strengthening our network defense, reducing manual work, and improving our incident response times.

User-friendly and has a good blocking feature but is quite expensive
Defining the new security rules and policies sometimes becomes a challenge. Integration with other platforms becomes a challenge as well. I'd like to see more integration with other tools and technologies. XGS 7100 has an end of support for the 30th of December 2022. Many are losing support. All the products of the XGS, including XGS 3100, 4100, 5100, and 7100, support is ending in December 2022. We need to know what is the plan post that? Do we need to spend money on them? Will that be extended? There has been no communication on the website either. It's an expensive device.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It is easy to configure."
"Among its great features is the ability to detect outgoing malware or extraction of compromised data and stop it, thus safeguarding us by isolating the network, the equipment, or the identity of the affected users."
"The best features Check Point IPS offers include finding threats hidden in encrypted data, which I find valuable."
"Overall with the IPS blade we can say we are secure with unknown attacks."
"Check Point IPS offers granular policy control, allowing administrators to customize IPS policies based on severity, protocols, or the source and destination."
"I can easily monitor all of our connected devices and I get instant notification of reconnections and new connections, which removes some of the monitoring burden."
"They give us the power of protection and security accompanied by other characteristics and solutions that together become the best in the market."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is called tunneling. Tunneling is one of the major security features that hackers cannot penetrate through."
"The blocking feature is great; it acts as an in-line blocker, and any malicious traffic that you see, or anything really, it can block the traffic."
"This is definitely a product that I recommend, especially for organizations that want a quick integration of data from the transaction systems, with a very low cost of operations."
"IPS has helped us in understanding more about the latest threats out there and made us realize that we need to be proactive when it comes to security rather than reactive."
"Signature based analysis and preventing different types of network attacks."
"The initial setup is simple."
"The most valuable feature is its simplicity."

Cons

"The pain point that I have with this solution is contacting technical support."
"Improvements could include more attractive dashboards, visual analytics, and automated attack path correlation in SmartEvent to enhance situational awareness and attack identification."
"For a smaller organization or smaller environment, the cost for Check Point IPS is a little bit high, so that can be made more budgetary for small organizations."
"Occasionally there are glitches and errors like false positives, which would be a nice area of this solution to improve upon."
"We want the solution to continue to move towards cloud-based and portability focused for telecommuting users."
"Support is the biggest area for improvement."
"Sometimes protections are 'aggregated' into a single threat name when you look at the logs. I would prefer to see all protections named individually (for example, right now, 'web enforcement' is a category that contains several signatures)."
"One area that could be improved in Check Point IPS is the user interface for managing IPS policies, which can be a bit complex for new users, along with the need for faster signature updates for emerging threats and more seamless integration with third-party tools."
"The management server can be made more user friendly and also the database configuration could be made simpler."
"In the future, I would like to see a hybrid option so that we can work both on-premises and in the cloud."
"It's an expensive device."
"The configuration of this product is complex. It could be made more user friendly."
"In terms of scalability, I would say that it is a little on the poor side."
"I'd like to see more integration with other tools and technologies."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price of this product should be reduced."
"I rate the product price an eight on a scale of one to ten, where one means it is very cheap and ten means it is very expensive. The product is expensive."
"There is a license needed to use the Check Point IPS which is not expensive. However, the Check Point IPS device is expensive."
"The pricing model can be more competitive."
"I give the price of the solution a five out of ten."
"Enabling IPS does not require any additional license purchase from OEM, as it comes by default with the NGFW bundle."
"Pricing for this solution is negotiable and I'm happy with our pricing."
"The pricing for Check Point IPS is competitive and brings good value for the money."
"The cost of operations is very low."
