Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Scalability is definitely one thing. The size of the database can grow without any issues. We've got one database table that's got over a billion rows in it; quite a bit of data, and it handles access like a champ.""The initial setup is fairly straightforward for a mainframe product.""Nowadays, CA is doing a lot of improving as far as online maintainability of definitions, which is a huge improvement over the past. I'm able to do a lot of changes without any outage.""It definitely cuts down on our support costs. I do not get woken up in the middle of the night very often for a problem with Datacom.""It is a solid product."

"We can track changes to our data models and tie those changes back to specific tasks or efforts that we identify.""Straightforward setup.""When validating the model, the ability to provide sub-models to developers, and generate a physical model from the logical, makes it easier to review a logical model with stakeholders.""The reverse engineering is the most important feature.""We have a database design group of about 15 people. The Repository enables multiple people to work on the same model at the same time. We have fully integrated models, so we have one model for the enterprise data warehouse, one model for MDM, with a lot of sub-models in these things. People work on different parts of the model at different times. So the repository enables us to share the models, and keep track of what everybody is working on.""It does the job.""It's easy to model and has a user-friendly interface. I like the team portal because, once we upload, the entire team can see the model.""The most valuable features are... those that enable me to represent the database to the development community and the business users."

Cons
"For the "no-outage maintainability" of things, they are making improvements as we speak, but there is definitely still room for more of that.""The only minor issue that we have had with Datacom is in the installation guide: Some of the sizings for the databases have not really worked out for us, so we had to go in and resize them."

More CA Datacom Cons →

"when there are some links to the external databases, if this database is not structured it is not uploaded. It gives me errors and I cannot see the view that was created on this structure and I cannot change those views, even manually. It skips the views. I have to ignore those views. I cannot re-upload them because it gives me an error.""This solution needs more precise documentation.""The visual presentation is a little too colorful and seems that it is dumbed down.""Sometimes our version is a little unstable. But I think this problem occurs because our version is old.""It would be helpful if they could create a generic JSON database type, as a target database, rather than a specific one like Mongo.""The model diagram because very clumsy when you save it on the team server and the models are very big.""Tech support is a sticking point with me. I am really disappointed in the tech support. We pay for the Platinum level. It takes hours to get a response.""I would like to see better documentation/help for the Data Architect tool. Creation of tutorials would be nice, as there are some features which are not as clearly defined as they should be."
