Has significantly improved document-driven workflows and reduced processing time across finance and HR functions
Automation Anywhere has evolved significantly and upgraded itself to provide agentic AI and AI-based automation solutions for document automation. The product has matured considerably over time. We can create workflows that can call an API. We can include prompts in particular workflows for ChatGPT-related functions, connecting to an LLM and RAG to perform tasks. For document automation, modern features are available to train documents, ensuring high accuracy and repeatability over time. The system is very easy to use. I recently completed a course in document automation, typically designed for people involved in coding and technical aspects. Though I understand coding comprehensively, I don't do actual coding. The course was very accessible. Currently, extensive coding isn't necessary due to the hybrid model incorporating GenAI aspects, low-code, no-code capabilities, APIs, and numerous pre-built objects in Automation Anywhere. The features include GenAI-driven prompting methods and workflow creation capabilities. In these workflows, we can create decision boxes and call APIs without coding. We simply pull objects, drop them, connect them, and add minimal coding when needed. The most crucial aspect isn't coding but rather sizing the automation and fleshing out the details. Automation Co-pilot takes notes and performs automated analysis. It can extract details from videos, summarize conversations, and provide detailed information. During calls, it identifies instructions and performs tasks such as preparing reports and reconciliation. Automation Anywhere can also connect with Microsoft Co-pilot. Through Co-pilot, real-time operations can be executed, allowing direct interaction between vendors and automation through this component.

Provides good stability, but it could be intuitive and easier to use
The product’s current version could be easier and straightforward to work with small IT organizations, similar to the older version. Its asset management feature has been significantly affected since the upgrade. Earlier, it was able to perform skill-based routing automatically. We could set up parameters within the system and view the details of the incident or a ticket. The same functionality needs to be fine-tuned in the new system.

Granular discovery has ensured confident workload migration and optimized cloud move group planning
Device42 offers the best features for workload assessment, particularly useful for cloud-to-cloud workload or on-premise data center workload, especially when planning for workload migration to the public cloud. For application and infrastructure discovery, Device42 has enabled me to know the number of machines running in the on-premise environment and has managed to capture complete utilization metrics or trends of their utilization. This has benefited me in right-sizing systems for my public cloud total cost of ownership (TCO) planning, providing me granularity to right-size these systems while planning a migration to the public cloud. Device42 has positively impacted my organization by providing granularity toward application discovery compared to other assessment tools, which is a differentiator since none of the other tools provide such granularity, leading to better decision-making for my migration to the public cloud. Device42 has improved my migration projects by providing granularity around system dependencies that gave me confidence knowing which systems communicate with each other parked in a particular move group. My move group planning became so robust that I am not leaving any system behind in the on-premise data center from my planning, which saves a lot of time and effort, leading to cost optimization—a value addition.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Ease of use is one thing that definitely first comes to mind when I think of Automation Anywhere. The tools are built in a fairly straightforward way. The documentation is really good and a Knowledge Base is available on every topic."
"The most valuable feature of Automation Anywhere right now is its low-code, no-code framework, which allows us to build a lot of templates that are both repeatable and reusable over time."
"Bot Insights is neatly integrated into the platform, which enables us to develop rapidly and train the learning instances using pre-defined domains over the purchase orders, forms, and invoices that need to be processed."
"We have used support a few times for one of our customers, and they respond quickly. If the issue involves a critical production system, they respond to the request on the same day."
"It is very user-friendly. Nobody has to sit down and work on coding. We have a drag and drop option where anybody can understand it."
"On a scale of one to ten, I would rate Automation Anywhere a nine."
"Comparing to other products in the market, we are getting all the features in hundred percent quality with what the objective needs to be met by other products, and that is also delivered in Automation Anywhere."
"There are many features that are valuable including Whatsapp messages, OCR, and image recognization, but I have not tried all of them."
"The solution is quite stable, and we've found it to be reliable and free from bugs and glitches that affect its usability."
"Our efficiency has improved drastically due to a massive reduction in phone calls."
"Using the Help Desk and Purchasing modules, they let us keep track of all the issues in our organization and analyze them for trends."
"The initial setup is pretty easy."
"As a department, we have been able to identify problems and resolve them faster because of the centralized database."
"We use it to create and manage our work orders."
"Our users have come to expect availability and quick responses, and we are able to provide this thanks to the Track-IT! solution."
"Track-It! has many features that help make us more efficient and cost effective as a department."
"Before Device42, the company didn't have any kind of asset management software at all, but now that we have Device42, we're integrating every single office into it so we know exactly what's where, which is a huge improvement that has probably halved the time it takes to do the management side of our IT assets."
"Device42 is a fully-featured tool that includes everything we need with powerful auto-discovery and intelligent application dependency mapping, and it is great in saving time and cost."
"The solution's automatic IT asset discovery and inventory functionality are top-notch. The thing I like is that it's open-source. If I need to change them — and they've given me links on GitHub to have them — I can go and change them to pull exactly what I want, as frequently as I want."
"Device42 positively impacts our organization by providing dependency mapping for our devices, and it integrates well with applications, especially our cloud service Microsoft Azure, giving us complete visibility across our infrastructure for efficient operations and modern compliance."
"Device42 has positively impacted my organization by helping us lead successful migration and transformation projects, and I have successfully completed cloud movement implementation from standard data center deployments to the cloud."
"It's nice to know that you can set up the scan, schedule it, and sit back."
"Asset management is a difficult, time consuming thing, however, Device42 has helped me streamline that so I can focus on other areas that need improvement."
"The continuous asset discovery is good because it means not having to manually input all the small data, such as IP addresses, leases, etc. It helps and saves us a lot of time."

Cons

"It does not easily integrate with customized solutions."
"There have been many instances, particularly in my previous organization where we did a lot of development in Automation Anywhere, catering to clients like CPA firms in America, where we raised tickets for solutions but did not always find a satisfactory resolution, despite connecting over a call."
"I feel A2019 is still not completely ready and the discontinuing of version 11 is a negative impact for all of the users and clients."
"Automation Anywhere is a tool. It is not able to go ahead and extract the hand-written documents. Most of the automation tools that we have in the market are not able to get an accuracy of close to 80 to 90 percent on hand-written documents. So, I'm eagerly looking at a release from Automation Anywhere, wherein they could plug in an LP or look at some sort of a platform which could convert hand-written documents into a readable format. If they could bring in they own platform, this would make a big in-roads for the entire automation industry."
"Scaling from small to medium automation works well, but if building out very big applications, sometimes the code can be too lengthy and uncontrollable."
"We have used the technical support. I am quite unhappy with the support part."
"AA has many features but the issue is with the loss of overhead on computing resources. For example, if the bot is encrypted, the bot should decrypt it first then act accordingly. If there are issues with the logic in the bot, there will be a lot of computer memory overload. There should be an additional feature for cloud functionality."
"In the age of AARI and Automation Anywhere 2019 IQ Bot, the biggest challenges for me and my company are understanding the product and implementing it at the right place."
"The product’s current version could be easier and straightforward to work with small IT organizations, similar to the older version."
"The area where we would like to see improvement is in the asset management module."
"Track-It! works great for a mid-size company, but anything over 700 employees, and trying to use Track-It! for any other areas of the business is difficult."
"Currently, if you go and check the reports in the packet, the reports are useless; reporting is really bad."
"There are a few items that I would like changed or extra features that could be added to our current version of this software, but those are all going to be addressed in a future software update."
"The solution is cumbersome to use."
"Their self-service is not user friendly."
"The breadth and depth of the solution's discovery of IT asset information means the system does most of the work, but they need to work on improving the database discovery part, especially for Oracle Exadata."
"The solution’s automatic IT asset discovery and inventory functionality functions pretty well. There could be some improvement if there were some automated scripts to get it off the ground. I know it takes a bit of effort to get all of various managed devices into one place. We have to go and change how they are managed and make sure they are all linking up correctly so they can be tracked in Device42. Some type of automated script for each to get over that initial activation."
"Currently, if you want to ping devices, you need to log into Appliance Manager. This feature should be available on the Device42 side. You should be able to use the ping utility without logging into Appliance Manager. The features that are there in Appliance Manager should also be available on the main Device42 server so that you have more control on one screen. You don't need to switch to another portal, but it is not something critical."
"I would rate Device42 at seven out of 10 because we need to fix it to find the devices that are not discovered."
"It gets a bit confusing sometimes when you're trying to map things to a certain spot when you are trying to configure it."
"Price-wise, from what I understand from my leadership, Device42 has some cost and it is a bit high compared to other discovery tools such as BMC Discovery or BMC Helix."
"Device42 can be improved by adding more reporting features and architectural diagrams."
"For the iPhone, the device diagram cannot be downloaded. You have to go to each device and download the device diagram for that device. E.g., suppose there are a 1000 or 2000 servers. You cannot go to each server or device to download a device diagram for each device. There should be a one-click solution for downloading all device diagrams."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing that we received from Automation Anywhere in the beginning was very economical for us. We've seen a lot of benefit from what we spent to what we're receiving. From the beginning, it's been a very low-cost implementation for us."
"Automation Anywhere pricing and licensing are competitive compared to the other automation vendors."
"Additional costs will be for the machines and the number of machines that you are using. You can deploy virtually as well as on physical machines. In both the situations, you do need to allocate a certain budget for securing the machines and where the software will be installed and running. The machines cannot be used for anything else, because only a certain bot can run at a certain time. You need to be very particular about your scheduling of running the bots, and while the bot is running nobody can use the machine. You cannot have an agent working on a machine and the bot running in the background. It has to be completely dedicated. Then there are the network bandwidth requirements and space requirements, which are additional costs apart from the licensing and software costs. The developer is also going to charge you for their coding time too."
"They give us a good deal on the licensing because we bundle and customize things. If you ask to get a bulk business deal, you will receive more benefit. If you take other products from the suite, like IQ Bot, you can also receive a deal on the licensing."
"It's cheapest among the competition, although bargaining is a must."
"The pricing is reasonable and one can achieve ROI faster when compared to other tools."
"The product’s pricing is reasonable."
"The Community Edition is a good offering from the company."
"BMC Track-It!’s price is reasonable compared to other products."
"The product cost is low. It is quite cheap."
"We pay $100,000 per year."
"Our licensing costs are on a yearly basis."
"I am not involved in its pricing, but I have seen their plans during a discussion with the customer. For 500 servers, they were asking 50,000 USD. The cost of BMC Discovery was less than half. For the same thing, they were charging only 10,000 USD. Its pricing needs to be improved. As compared to other discovery tools, such as BMC Discovery and ServiceNow Discovery, its price is a little bit higher."
"The problem with using other vendor, like BMC, is the pricing. The price is so horrible and nobody wants to pay this money."
"Functionality-wise, Device42 is on par with industry standards, but price-wise, the solution is expensive. I'm rating the pricing for the solution as eight out of ten."
"It's in the top-three most expensive solutions in terms of cost, but it has all the features that are needed."
"On a yearly basis, our licensing is $10,000. However, our license is now nearly full with devices. We need the next bigger license with 5,000 devices, which will cost us $19,000. We pay for a set of licenses, a maximum number of devices, and a maximum number of IP addresses. We have the smallest amount of features, which is enough for us at this time."
