Has significantly improved document-driven workflows and reduced processing time across finance and HR functions
Automation Anywhere has evolved significantly and upgraded itself to provide agentic AI and AI-based automation solutions for document automation. The product has matured considerably over time. We can create workflows that can call an API. We can include prompts in particular workflows for ChatGPT-related functions, connecting to an LLM and RAG to perform tasks. For document automation, modern features are available to train documents, ensuring high accuracy and repeatability over time. The system is very easy to use. I recently completed a course in document automation, typically designed for people involved in coding and technical aspects. Though I understand coding comprehensively, I don't do actual coding. The course was very accessible. Currently, extensive coding isn't necessary due to the hybrid model incorporating GenAI aspects, low-code, no-code capabilities, APIs, and numerous pre-built objects in Automation Anywhere. The features include GenAI-driven prompting methods and workflow creation capabilities. In these workflows, we can create decision boxes and call APIs without coding. We simply pull objects, drop them, connect them, and add minimal coding when needed. The most crucial aspect isn't coding but rather sizing the automation and fleshing out the details. Automation Co-pilot takes notes and performs automated analysis. It can extract details from videos, summarize conversations, and provide detailed information. During calls, it identifies instructions and performs tasks such as preparing reports and reconciliation. Automation Anywhere can also connect with Microsoft Co-pilot. Through Co-pilot, real-time operations can be executed, allowing direct interaction between vendors and automation through this component.

Provides good stability, but it could be intuitive and easier to use
The product’s current version could be easier and straightforward to work with small IT organizations, similar to the older version. Its asset management feature has been significantly affected since the upgrade. Earlier, it was able to perform skill-based routing automatically. We could set up parameters within the system and view the details of the incident or a ticket. The same functionality needs to be fine-tuned in the new system.

Granular discovery has ensured confident workload migration and optimized cloud move group planning
Device42 offers the best features for workload assessment, particularly useful for cloud-to-cloud workload or on-premise data center workload, especially when planning for workload migration to the public cloud. For application and infrastructure discovery, Device42 has enabled me to know the number of machines running in the on-premise environment and has managed to capture complete utilization metrics or trends of their utilization. This has benefited me in right-sizing systems for my public cloud total cost of ownership (TCO) planning, providing me granularity to right-size these systems while planning a migration to the public cloud. Device42 has positively impacted my organization by providing granularity toward application discovery compared to other assessment tools, which is a differentiator since none of the other tools provide such granularity, leading to better decision-making for my migration to the public cloud. Device42 has improved my migration projects by providing granularity around system dependencies that gave me confidence knowing which systems communicate with each other parked in a particular move group. My move group planning became so robust that I am not leaving any system behind in the on-premise data center from my planning, which saves a lot of time and effort, leading to cost optimization—a value addition.

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The best features in Automation Anywhere that I really appreciate are found in the basic module for pure RPA, such as the recorder function, which helps in making automation even easier; no coding is required, you are just doing things, and the recorder records your movements and actions, creating the code out of that."
"Simple processes such as tracking, logging, and data consolidation are now automated, which helps us focus more on doing tasks that are impactful and more important."
"If we count the integrations that we have done with Appian, which is where a lot of our savings is from, we are well over a million dollars in savings."
"It has drag-and-drop features, which makes it very fast for us to gather the required data."
"Its integration with source control is very refreshing. There could be a little bit more maturity around how to do some of the features, but not having to go outside the app, not having a separate set of procedures, allows you to check in and check out right from within the app. You can make edits and uploads and undo your checkouts."
"The product has everything that I want; I don't have to look for another tool to integrate with it."
"The best feature is its ability to combine Automation Anywhere with AI to build intelligent bots."
"Automation Anywhere has excellent features."
"Our users have come to expect availability and quick responses, and we are able to provide this thanks to the Track-IT! solution."
"The solution is quite stable, and we've found it to be reliable and free from bugs and glitches that affect its usability."
"Track-It! has many features that help make us more efficient and cost effective as a department."
"Track-It! has many features that help make us more efficient and cost effective as a department."
"Our efficiency has improved drastically due to a massive reduction in phone calls."
"We use it to create and manage our work orders."
"As a department, we have been able to identify problems and resolve them faster because of the centralized database."
"We can manually capture the assets available within the location."
"Asset management is a difficult, time consuming thing, however, Device42 has helped me streamline that so I can focus on other areas that need improvement."
"Device42 is a fantastic tool for workload discovery, and I believe everyone should start using it if they have plans to do so; it is a top-notch tool in the market."
"Before Device42, the company didn't have any kind of asset management software at all, but now that we have Device42, we're integrating every single office into it so we know exactly what's where, which is a huge improvement that has probably halved the time it takes to do the management side of our IT assets."
"It has generally been a really solid and useful tool."
"Previously, our company had a lot of issues keeping track of all the data centers and the inventory, as well as the purchase orders, and the good thing about Device42 is that it can be used for all this together so we don't need to spend time checking many other tools and files."
"We use the automatic IT asset discovery for different things, like VMware discovery and SNMP discovery for network devices. It helps us to keep hardware information up to date in Device42, and the VMware discovery helps us to keep virtual device inventory up to date... We are sure to have 100 percent of our devices in Device42. Not more, not less."
"Device42 has positively impacted our organization by helping us become one of the best companies for asset management and inventory for the enterprise businesses we work with."
"The tool is user-friendly, easy to understand, and flexible."

Cons

"We would like a better coding interface for developers. We would also like to have a user interface which reduces the time to learn the product so more people in the organization can use software, like Automation Anywhere, quickly automating processes."
"Also, we're seemingly plagued with certain technological issues or bugs."
"They need to improve the speed. It runs too slowly."
"I think it is a little bit of an ongoing struggle, because we don't deal with the infrastructure. We have a separate infrastructure team that sorts all that out, so sometimes there are communication issues just trying to get our internal IT team onboard to run through the installs and that sort of thing."
"On the cognitive side, some of their competitors, when we were originally shopping, were a little more advanced in that space. Making use of probabilistic outcomes and presenting them to a business user is a feature that, at the time of our evaluation, did not feel like a strong, mature solution for Automation Anywhere. Nevertheless, they won our business. That is one feature where I feel they are trying to make investments to address those gaps."
"Automation Anywhere can also be improved in machine learning and artificial intelligence. It would make our lives easier."
"The bot scaling process was painful, when you go beyond a few bots, and because we had stability issues."
"If you work with image recognition and custom objects, there are stability issues."
"The product’s current version could be easier and straightforward to work with small IT organizations, similar to the older version."
"Currently, if you go and check the reports in the packet, the reports are useless; reporting is really bad."
"The solution is cumbersome to use."
"There are a few items that I would like changed or extra features that could be added to our current version of this software, but those are all going to be addressed in a future software update."
"The area where we would like to see improvement is in the asset management module."
"Track-It! works great for a mid-size company, but anything over 700 employees, and trying to use Track-It! for any other areas of the business is difficult."
"Track-It! works great for a mid-size company, but anything over 700 employees, and trying to use Track-It! for any other areas of the business is difficult."
"The area where we would like to see improvement is in the asset management module."
"I think Device42 can be improved by adding more features around the CMDB aspect and lifecycle management."
"The breadth and depth of the solution's discovery of IT asset information means the system does most of the work, but they need to work on improving the database discovery part, especially for Oracle Exadata."
"I have not seen a return on investment with Device42, as it primarily provides information and not revenue."
"The only thing which I have noticed so far that is not good is that we had an issue with some reporting from the tool, reporting we had to export. We couldn't do it in the way we wanted to, so we tried to reach out to their support but it took pretty long until we understood how we can manage the reports. We still haven't received a complete explanation of what we need to do and how to do it."
"We have not yet seen ROI. The solution has not reduced the time spent managing IT assets."
"Mapping items wasn't as intuitive as importing in Device42, so this is an area for improvement."
"The reporting could be better. The Insights+ component is an improvement, but they even admit it isn't the greatest. The documentation on their website could also be improved, but Device42 is constantly changing, so the documentation would have to change almost daily."
"It gets a bit confusing sometimes when you're trying to map things to a certain spot when you are trying to configure it."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The licensing cost could be improved. It costs a lot. At the very least, the developer licenses and the control panels should be made free to enterprises, and the production environment licensed."
"There are a lot of savings in terms of effort and time as well as costs. Automation Anywhere automates a lot of processes. It allows an organization to save the efforts of a lot people. It saves a lot of time because people can't work a whole day (24/7), but Automation Anywhere bots can."
"They sell it by license, but if they could charge by case or by interaction, that might be better. Right now, it's expensive when you want to scale or use them for simple processes."
"One of the things that will be good for the community will be to get the free version to download, which came out just a month ago called Community Edition. So, you can actually download it and try it for yourself."
"It's cheapest among the competition, although bargaining is a must."
"Its price is competitive with all other products in the market."
"It's a bit expensive compared to other RPA tools on the market."
"I don't agree with the IQ Bot licensing costs, which depends on the consumption of the document rather than per bot or user. This is confusing for me, because most of the cases for us in a possible future scenario, there would be a lot of invalid data to be scanned to get to real data. E.g., we would have to supply approximately 100 pages of scanned data to extract two pages of original data. In these type of cases, the IQ Bot might be a costly venture."
"BMC Track-It!’s price is reasonable compared to other products."
"We pay $100,000 per year."
"It's in the top-three most expensive solutions in terms of cost, but it has all the features that are needed."
"On a yearly basis, our licensing is $10,000. However, our license is now nearly full with devices. We need the next bigger license with 5,000 devices, which will cost us $19,000. We pay for a set of licenses, a maximum number of devices, and a maximum number of IP addresses. We have the smallest amount of features, which is enough for us at this time."
"I am not involved in its pricing, but I have seen their plans during a discussion with the customer. For 500 servers, they were asking 50,000 USD. The cost of BMC Discovery was less than half. For the same thing, they were charging only 10,000 USD. Its pricing needs to be improved. As compared to other discovery tools, such as BMC Discovery and ServiceNow Discovery, its price is a little bit higher."
"Functionality-wise, Device42 is on par with industry standards, but price-wise, the solution is expensive. I'm rating the pricing for the solution as eight out of ten."
"The problem with using other vendor, like BMC, is the pricing. The price is so horrible and nobody wants to pay this money."
"The product cost is low. It is quite cheap."
"Our licensing costs are on a yearly basis."
