Helps design blueprints in a cloud environment but the support is a major problem
One of the major problems is that support is not so good. I used to have a support expert in Spain but they left two years ago. BMC doesn't invest a lot in network automation but network automation is a major point in CLM. There aren't any experts here in Europe, maybe they have in America, I don't know. The main problem is the support in Europe. We had a lot of problems with the people who got put on our cases. The agents that we were assigned to were not so capable. They wanted to replicate the problem. If you have an incident, it takes a lot of time to troubleshoot the problem. The incident support is not so good. The technicians don't know the platform well. BMC doesn't want to invest in CLM. Two years ago we had a lot of problems. Maybe BMC realized that CLM is an end of life product.

Helps us provide visibility into network performance, capacity planning, and cost analysis
Better support and more accessible resources are crucial. Customers have expressed that support is not as flexible, and it is difficult to obtain necessary information quickly. Customers would benefit from improved training material for integration with other products. The solution's pricing is high and needs to be reconsidered, and the technical support should improve to provide more accessible and open information.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Integrates role-based access control with pre-configured policies for CIS, DISA, HIPAA, PCI, SOX, NIST, and SCAP documentation and remediation."
"It's helped us with our automation."
"You can tie together your public and private cloud infrastructure into a "single pane of glass"."
"We have many regions where more than 10000 servers are deployed, so it helps in patching and hardening of servers."
"Allowing systems to be provisioned in a wide range of environments, such as Azure, AWS, or on-premise, reduces the level of training required as well as creates consistency across the board."
"CLM has a multi-cloud portal because they have the resources to implement in various environments in various ports."
"Supports unattended installs and image-based, script-based, or template-based provisioning."
"Automates Java EE Application Deployment from an SCM system."
"Scalability and flexibility. The product can grow with your infrastructure so you don't have to install other products. Just add components. It's very simple."
"In the past we would spend months in meetings with a new customer, defining what they wanted to monitor, and most of the time we would come back home to see if that was possible to do, however, with CA UIM, we can provide our clients with a predefined menu of items to collect, and we can select those faster and more efficiently."
"Latest version of tool comes integrated with Jaspersoft reporting solution, giving excellent reports."
"The benefit is easy installation. Thus, the model approach of the product and out-of-the-box probes, which deliver direct value."
"It provides us with infrastructure availability and application availability."
"We now use only one console to monitor all servers, the database and the network, allowing us to consolidate four previous tools (BMC, HP, SolarWinds, Nagios)."
"Technical Support: The UIM support team is excellent."
"It’s been very stable, it’s flexible, and it really fits our business needs and business model."

Cons

"One of the major problems is that support is not so good."
"Going to BMC for PS is not at all recommended from my experience."
"Needs integrations with other providers to provide a custom public cloud environment."
"The installation and configuration can be tricky due to it being built on Remedy."
"It was complex as it does not include a good, extensive feasibility and compatibility guide."
"If the database is down or if there is something going on, the console becomes very buggy and very, very slow, and sometimes impossible to use."
"There also seems to be a bug where the entire Nimsoft Server config gets corrupted during a reboot."
"The main complaint with the tool is we are attempting to migrate off of SCOM and the management packs that SCOM has for Exchange (ED and SharePoint) it does not look like UIM and can't necessarily compete with those."
"A useful feature to have would be automatic configuration per standard by new robots that check in for any particular customer."
"The UIM has no features through goods and services yet. "
"NSD and NMS support need to be improved. Usually, what I encountered was that if we had an issue, the suggestion was always to upgrade to the current version, but sometimes when they upgraded some features would stop working."
"Customer support is good, but sometimes needs bit of urgency from a CA engineer to look at the issue."
"There are a few areas for improvement, but I would have to say some of the Java content is a little buggy and would definitely like to see continued upgrades and improvements in the GUI."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"CAD $400,000 annually."
"The license cost depends on the number of probes and robots."
"The product-price ratio is better than other brands such as Fortinet or SonicWall."
"Reasonable setup cost and licensing prices."
"Pricing for DX Unified Infrastructure Management isn't cheap at all. It's a complex tool, so you have to pay more. No one is happy with a large bill to pay, but if it's a complex product and you designed a complex solution to be monitored, it'll be your fault that you need to buy an expensive product, and that would be implicit in the design of DX Unified Infrastructure Management. Monitoring is just a small part of it. Sometimes you have to pay a significant amount of money for a complex yet very good solution."
"This product is expensive compared to other vendors (SolarWinds, ManageEngine)."
