Helps design blueprints in a cloud environment but the support is a major problem
One of the major problems is that support is not so good. I used to have a support expert in Spain but they left two years ago. BMC doesn't invest a lot in network automation but network automation is a major point in CLM. There aren't any experts here in Europe, maybe they have in America, I don't know. The main problem is the support in Europe. We had a lot of problems with the people who got put on our cases. The agents that we were assigned to were not so capable. They wanted to replicate the problem. If you have an incident, it takes a lot of time to troubleshoot the problem. The incident support is not so good. The technicians don't know the platform well. BMC doesn't want to invest in CLM. Two years ago we had a lot of problems. Maybe BMC realized that CLM is an end of life product.

Helps us provide visibility into network performance, capacity planning, and cost analysis
Better support and more accessible resources are crucial. Customers have expressed that support is not as flexible, and it is difficult to obtain necessary information quickly. Customers would benefit from improved training material for integration with other products. The solution's pricing is high and needs to be reconsidered, and the technical support should improve to provide more accessible and open information.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's helped us with our automation."
"You can tie together your public and private cloud infrastructure into a "single pane of glass"."
"Supports unattended installs and image-based, script-based, or template-based provisioning."
"We have many regions where more than 10000 servers are deployed, so it helps in patching and hardening of servers."
"Assesses change impact or completes an audit using multiple dashboard views."
"Allowing systems to be provisioned in a wide range of environments, such as Azure, AWS, or on-premise, reduces the level of training required as well as creates consistency across the board."
"Automates Java EE Application Deployment from an SCM system."
"CLM has a multi-cloud portal because they have the resources to implement in various environments in various ports."
"It has a wide breadth of monitors and probes."
"We really like using the tools, we like all of the things that we've gotten out of the tool set, the ability to visualize, the ability to help our troubleshooting, the in depth analysis for our infrastructure teams and things like that."
"The best features are scalability, versatility, infrastructure coverage and ease of implementation."
"UIM covered 95% of that."
"The primary benefit for us at this stage in our approach is that we've been able to cut outages by about 300%."
"It has a good learning curve for someone even if he doesn't have experience with server monitoring tools."
"The feature that we've found to be very helpful is the way the solution categorizes the devices to identify groups, groups of devices and clusters. This allows us to be aware of their position within the topology."
"Flexibility – in the sense that it allows me to monitor our IT infrastructure and application in a very holistic manner."

Cons

"The installation and configuration can be tricky due to it being built on Remedy."
"Needs integrations with other providers to provide a custom public cloud environment."
"One of the major problems is that support is not so good."
"One of the major problems is that support is not so good."
"Needs integrations with other providers to provide a custom public cloud environment."
"Going to BMC for PS is not at all recommended from my experience."
"It was complex as it does not include a good, extensive feasibility and compatibility guide."
"The installation and configuration can be tricky due to it being built on Remedy."
"NSD and NMS support need to be improved. Usually, what I encountered was that if we had an issue, the suggestion was always to upgrade to the current version, but sometimes when they upgraded some features would stop working."
"Very complex, little documentation and NMS is more of a middleware to build your own monitoring on top of, rather than an end-to-end system."
"The UIM has no features through goods and services yet."
"The other element is that there are no real templates, out of the box. Let's go with an example where we do have the probe, which is great, and we do have a really nuanced customer with a small set of devices that maybe not a lot of other customers use. There might not be a template in place, so effectively we have the tool in front of us but we still need to develop a solution. So it would be really nice to see a little bit more of something like a central repository of templates that we could use. That would help us expedite our onboarding process."
"More HTML5, more flexibility, and reducing the number of screens, fewer mouse clicks, fewer mouse movements."
"In the UMP, certain devices will show up multiple times and they don't correlate correctly."
"Sometimes the stability is not what we expected, but it's really good still."
"DX UIM's reporting and customization need to be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"Pricing for DX Unified Infrastructure Management isn't cheap at all. It's a complex tool, so you have to pay more. No one is happy with a large bill to pay, but if it's a complex product and you designed a complex solution to be monitored, it'll be your fault that you need to buy an expensive product, and that would be implicit in the design of DX Unified Infrastructure Management. Monitoring is just a small part of it. Sometimes you have to pay a significant amount of money for a complex yet very good solution."
"CAD $400,000 annually."
"Reasonable setup cost and licensing prices."
"The license cost depends on the number of probes and robots."
"The product-price ratio is better than other brands such as Fortinet or SonicWall."
"This product is expensive compared to other vendors (SolarWinds, ManageEngine)."
