Extensive experience with session management and quick technical support boost confidence
While generally a strong product, BeyondTrust Password Safe has a few areas that could use some polish. From an administrator's viewpoint, we sometimes see keystroke capturing fail. More significantly, RDP sessions occasionally disconnect without any error messages on the client side. This leaves us administrators in the dark, unable to identify the cause of the problem

Has delivered strong identity automation while support response could be faster
With either SailPoint or Saviynt, I utilize this product, as do some of my clients, with AWS as a main cloud provider. We are not using AWS; we were using only Saviynt. We never used AWS because we don't have any customers for AWS. Saviynt likely uses an AWS server for their database, though I'm not certain how they utilize AWS services. The cloud-native capabilities of Saviynt contribute to enhanced cloud security as they are operating a cloud-based solution. Saviynt's capabilities for automating user provisioning and access are excellent, and their IGA functionality is perfect. The specific details about their IGA capability show excellence in terms of automated onboarding, off-boarding process, and JML processes, making it a strong solution in this market. I rate Saviynt 8 out of 10.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It simplifies your compliance and tracking to benchmark other credentials and analytics."
"The features I find valuable in Password Safe include password retention and management, session privilege monitoring, live monitoring and recording, and the use of PS automation scripts for creating connections."
"Session recording, password rotation, and password vaulting are the most valuable features."
"It is very easy to deploy. It's easy to use. That's the major thing I like about it."
"I rate BeyondTrust Password Safe as an overall 10 out of 10."
"Overall, I rate BeyondTrust Password Safe as nine out of ten."
"Smart Rules is a nice feature in BeyondTrust. It is a unique feature that BeyondTrust has as compared to other vendors such as CyberArk. With Smart Rules, you can do automatic onboarding of accounts. There are a lot of options and features. For example, you can do onboarding based on different AD attributes. It is a nice feature in BeyondTrust that some of the other PAM vendors don't have. With other vendors, we have to create our own scripts, whereas, with BeyondTrust, we can just use the in-built Smart Rules."
"BeyondTrust Password Safe is a good PAM tool."
"It is a flexible tool because it works on JSON."
"Saviynt risk-based access requests and intelligent access controls have made a significant impact on our company."
"It gives very good and in-depth knowledge about a particular identity. Everything is through a single click. We get to know the workflows related to a particular identity with a single click."
"We have found the implementation process to be very easy."
"The most valuable aspect of Saviynt is its market acceptance."
"The product's initial setup phase is easy."
"The feature that we use the most is the global, third-party user management."
"Some of the self-service capabilities are quite powerful."

Cons

"There are multiple features that have issues, although they could be specific to our environment. What we have seen is that whenever a user gets added to the authentication store, the sync between Password Safe and the authentication store, which is generally easy, takes a lot of time. It does not occur immediately."
"We face screensaver timeout issues and problems with the server. I would like the product to include a server visibility feature."
"The only feature they could improve is the banners because they aren't informative. For example, if something is not correct and I open the error notification, the dialogue box simply says, "This is an error." It would be great if they could provide some valuable comments about how to fix the errors."
"If they can create a single platform to create a connector, it would be better than using the RBS server."
"We don't have much control over the appliance. When anything happens in the backend, we have to depend on the support team. We need to raise a case so that they can update the appliance. If we have control over it, we would be able to troubleshoot easily."
"The effectiveness of BeyondTrust Password Safe's session management capabilities for SSH and RDP is pretty much robust, but it needs more improvement for other applications and web-based applications."
"If there was one thing, it would be having the documentation standardized. They should keep the documentation consistent. For example, when BeyondTrust updated one of their admin guides, they left out the information on the discovery account requirements, and then over a period of time, we ended up having to search multiple different documents to put together a string of information for a specific topic, which was problematic. It was minor, but it was problematic. Standardized documentation would be the one thing I would suggest."
"When we deploy BeyondTrust, we have to deploy our own database on a SQL server. It doesn't deploy the database. I wish BeyondTrust packages the whole solution in one and includes the MySQL database so that when you deploy it, it deploys everything for you. BeyondTrust gives you the software, but you are in charge of setting up your own database. It is a single appliance just for the BeyondTrust portion but not the database. Unless that has changed in later releases, you have to set up your own database for BeyondTrust Password Safe. I find that part complex because we then need the expertise and help of the database team to set it up, which also increases the deployment time. If they can deploy the database, it will reduce the deployment time."
"The product's stability is not easy to maintain."
"The technical support team's response time could be improved."
"The customer support and implementation services need to be improved."
"The solution does not work very well as the number of users increases."
"The configuration process at the beginning can be difficult, depending on the complexity of the company."
"Both SailPoint IdentityNow and Saviynt have some bugs, but SailPoint is considered more mature with fewer bugs due to its longer establishment in the market since around 2005. SailPoint had its share of bugs in the early days, but they have resolved them over time, resulting in a stable product. Saviynt, on the other hand, was launched around 2013 or 2014 and is actively working to improve its product. Despite having some bugs, Saviynt is making progress and aims to build a stable product, but it is not there yet."
"UI and support could be improved. The frequent updates and version changes can be disruptive for large organizations. Not every month, a large organization can go with the changes. Saviynt needs to consider this carefully."
"In terms of improvement, it's really just a matter of them getting more mature. It's a relatively new solution and they probably need to streamline a few of the processes as they mature. But there are not too many problems."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I would rate the pricing a seven out of ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive."
"It has subscription-based licensing. BeyondTrust is three times less expensive than CyberArk."
"The pricing structure is better than the competitors. It's much cheaper than CyberArk. They do the licensing on the basis of assets, not on the number of users. For CyberArk, they base the licensing on the number of users, and they have an expensive model of pricing. BeyondTrust has a cheaper model."
"The pricing of BeyondTrust is very good as compared to other products. That was the main reason we decided to go with BeyondTrust at first."
"We just pay for Password Safe. Session management is included, but we don't use it. There aren't any additional costs besides the standard licensing fees. We pay for an annual license."
"This solution is not cheap—it's a very expensive solution. Very, very expensive compared to the features and functions that they offer."
"When you buy Password Safe and perform your initial Discovery, you have all these servers that are added to your assets in BeyondTrust, but you're not using a license until you actually start managing the systems. BeyondTrust's licensing is based on the systems when they're managed, which means when an administrator is able to connect to the server through BeyondTrust with a managed account. There would be a privileged account on the endpoint when the licensing starts. A significant advantage to that is that there are many organizations that want to evaluate their environment prior to automatic management."
"The product is quite affordable."
"The solution has a pay-as-you-go licensing model, and you can subscribe monthly or yearly."
"If you need to make any changes then there are additional fees."
"The pricing is comparable to Azure Entra ID. Kind of the same"
"Saviynt has a competitive price."
"The product is less expensive than one of the competitors."
"We are not into the licensing part. The clients take care of the licensing part."
"The price of the license for this product is quite expensive."
"Saviynt's pricing is reasonable."
