AWS's cloud-native security simplifies rule enforcement but needs better DDoS integration
The dashboarding could be improved, and the default metrics provided by AWS WAF could be upgraded. The rate at which AWS updates their managed rule sets could be better. Features like bot protection or DDoS mitigation, available with other WAF vendors, do not come natively with AWS WAF. Instead, they are part of AWS Shield. Providing DDoS protection as part of their WAF solution would be beneficial.

Identifying compromised traffic and securing data has been a significant advantage
One of the most beneficial features of F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) ( /products/f5-big-ip-local-traffic-manager-ltm-reviews ) is its ability to identify compromised traffic and its capabilities in authentication. Additionally, the security aspect of it provides a significant advantage as it helps us secure our data, which is a major investment and benefit for us. Before using this system, we had difficulties in storing our data and managing the traffic that comes in and out.

A product that offers advanced bot detection capabilities and reporting features
The scalability of the product is high. I rate the product's scalability a ten out of ten. It is very easy to use the scalability features of the product, especially if the product is deployed on the cloud model, but it may be a different story if the tool is deployed on an on-premises model. The difficulty of using the scalability feature nude of the product arises when the client does not have the capacity to scale up. My company deals with businesses of all sizes. One of my company's clients who uses the solution has five members and a large e-commerce environment. There are also enterprise-sized clients who use the solution.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature is that it is very easy to configure. It just takes a couple of minutes."
"The solution is stable."
"We preferred the product based on its cost. AWS WAF is an out-of-the-box solution and integrates with the AWS services that we use. It's natively integrated with AWS."
"This product supplies options for web security for applications accessing sensitive information."
"AWS WAF helps mitigate different kinds of bot attacks and SQL injection that happen within the retail industry."
"I believe the most impressive features are integration and ease of use. The best part of AWS WAF is the cloud-native WAF integration. There aren't any hidden deployments or hidden infrastructure which we have to maintain to have AWS WAF. AWS maintains everything; all we have to do is click the button, and WAF will be activated. Any packet coming through the internet will be filtered through."
"The simple configuration and the scalability have been most valuable. We are able to scale across all of our different AWS instances."
"AWS WAF acts as a barrier, analyzing HTTP communications between external users and web applications."
"It can determine if the system is going down, then route the traffic somewhere else."
"I was able to simply and quickly set up the WAF rules and security, and also set up easily complex policies and rules which gave me some great features to redirect."
"iRules are very valuable. In addition to that, the way profiles are depicted by the LTM is also very good."
"It is the perfect solution when you have high workloads in your IT environment."
"This is a solution that does what it's supposed to do at the price point."
"F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) improves the resilience and quality of the application itself, the speed and the user experience for the application. The data that the users need from the application is actually acquired faster. So, it provides faster data acquisition."
"F5 has many capabilities for load balancing and web application firewall features."
"The most valuable feature of F5 BIG-IP LTM is brand image and recognition and the application delivery controller."
"I am impressed with the product's automatic bot mechanism. It also gives us the control to create our own custom bot rules."
"The stability of the product is good since I haven't had any problems with the solution."

Cons

"The solution can improve its price."
"This solution could be improved if the configuration steps were more specific to WAF, compared to other cloud services."
"When users choose the free service, there isn't great support available to them."
"We should be able to do proper whitelisting."
"The solution is cloud-based, and therefore the billing model that comes with it could be more intuitive, in my opinion. It's very easy to not fully understand how you tag things for billing and then you can quite easily run up a high bill without realizing it. The solution needs to be more intuitive around the tagging system, which enables the billing. Right now, I have a cloud architect that does that on our behalf and it isn't something that a business user could use because it still requires quite a lot of technical knowledge to do effectively."
"We need more support as we go global."
"An improvement area would be that it's more of a manual effort when you have to enable rules. That's one of the downsides. If that can be done in an automated way, it would be great. That's a lagging feature currently."
"They should make the implementation process faster."
"I'm not very sure about the security with F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM). We have our own private data center, but we are going to migrate our private data center into the Azure cloud environment. Security will then be a major concern when we migrate our own whole infrastructure to the public cloud."
"The management interface is unclear, complex, and not concise. I would like a better user interface."
"Currently, the product offers everything we need. I can't recall any features that may be lacking."
"The setup is a little bit complex."
"They need to develop the reporting tools further."
"F5 BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager is sometimes a bit cumbersome to deal with some builds, although that's gotten significantly better over the years."
"It is a hardware load balancer, and its installation procedure is more complex than a software load balancer. There are pros and cons of using hardware load balancing. You have to have specific hardware deployed in your data center to activate this load balancer. They never came up with any software-based load balancing solution. It is all hardware-based."
"Internet and cloud support could be improved."
"Sometimes, it takes a bit of time for the technical staff of the solution to get back to our company with a resolution for our problems."
"The tool needs to include artificial intelligence and machine learning. It also needs to improve profiling."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There are different scale options available for WAF."
"There are no separate licensing costs we pay for since it is included in the plan we purchase."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing a seven or eight out of ten."
"The product’s pricing is reasonable."
"I rate the product price a five on a scale of one to ten, where one is high price, and ten is low price"
"The price is average."
"You need an additional AWS subscription for this product if you are buying a managed tool."
"It's quite affordable. It's in the middle."
"If your IT budget is good, go for it."
"You can buy it on a yearly basis, or you can go for a subscription. For on-premise boxes, it is just the RMA."
"BIG-IP LTM is considered a premium product, so it's quite expensive and isn't affordable for all customers."
"We are on an annual license to use the solution."
"In my view, the cost is somewhat on the higher side. There are discounts available, but I wouldn't say it's overpriced. It's not cheap either, and the value for money is a bit higher from that perspective."
"It is a little pricey. I wish the pricing was cheaper, but I wish the pricing was cheaper for everything."
"LTM is a good product, but it's expensive. They should make it more competitive because cloud providers offer free load balancing. Cloud providers can't cover all the security aspects of F5, but you get a decent amount of security. Cloud environments are becoming the norm across the IT industry. Many of the larger companies that previously used on-prem infrastructure are switching to the cloud, so companies like Fortinet and Palo Alto are reducing their prices. Otherwise, they can't compete in the cloud."
"F5 BIG-IP can be expensive, although there are trial versions available which are helpful to find out if the solution is right for your company."
"The tool's pricing is good."
"I rate the product price a four on a scale of one to ten, where one is a low price, and ten is a high price."
