Boosts deployment efficiency with seamless automatic scaling capabilities
My primary use case for Auto Scaling is mainly to deploy applications at scale Auto Scaling has made the deployment of applications more efficient, allowing us to manage traffic and maintain performance as user counts increase. Auto Scaling is a cool feature that works well and its automatic…

Provides a comprehensive view by integrating with other monitoring systems
There may be an issue since there are many tools like Splunk involved in network monitoring. From an IP perspective, Dynatrace is performing well. If they want to develop in network monitoring, they can, as it's part of their product line. It's not rocketry, so they can accomplish it. If I, as an SI, look at it from an enterprise perspective, considering the cost from the client, I prefer not to go with multiple systems, as they don't provide a complete 360-degree view. They need to improve on claims about being an enterprise system. The definition of enterprise is loosely used, however, from a holistic security perspective, including infrastructure, network, ports, software, applications, transactions, and databases, there are areas lacking, especially in network monitoring tools.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The tool's most valuable feature is vertical auto-scaling, which is easy to use. However, most companies now prefer horizontal scaling. I set up the health check integration to monitor CPU usage. When it reaches seventy percent, it sends me an email notification."
"AWS Auto Scaling is cost-effective and very useful for businesses."
"I like the graphs provided by the tool."
"AWS Auto Scaling is very good for managing traffic and creating new instances when necessary."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to select a minimum amount of active servers so that a new server automatically launches if one fails."
"The various scaling options available, such as step scaling, are particularly useful."
"It can scale."
"The setup is not very complex."
"We use it, in many instances, to find the root cause in production."
"With the Agentless monitoring and ability to create custom plugins, we've been able to transform the tool not just into a great APM solution but a really good enterprise monitoring solution too."
"Logs files for JVM transactions help to debug most of the failures."
"Automatic instrumentation of new services and technology without the need to install specific agents or modules."
"The way it shows a problem on the dashboard is pretty good."
"From the monitoring perspective, the ability to triage quickly is important, and the ability to alert and tell people where the problem is."
"It provides us a reference for being able to go back and look at data at a certain point, analyze it, then determine if something was the root cause."
"Helps us to shorten down the time for triaging an issue."

Cons

"It could be cheaper."
"The tool's stability could be improved."
"The product’s pricing needs improvement."
"Flexibility in configuring the workload is missing in AWS Auto Scaling."
"There hasn't been a need for improvements."
"AWS Auto Scaling's documentation could be better."
"The solution is not out-of-the-box and you have to study to use it. It should be more easier to use."
"The only area of improvement is the speed at which servers are launched. When cleaning up to six servers at a time, it can take up to 15 to 20 minutes to launch new servers."
"This solution needs more powerful database monitoring capabilities."
"Need better mapping to true business service rather than purely technical monitoring."
"I would also like to see it baselining more metrics out-of-the-box. We have a lot of rich data, but if someone says, "Well how did that look last week?" If you're looking at a problem and you see, for example, a long SQL statement, is that the root cause, or is it always slow. it's difficult to get historical data."
"In the next release, I would like to see some new reports and more tiles on the Dashboard."
"Dynatrace must reduce the required resources for on-premise, because they are too high."
"When compared with other tools, the experience needs improvement. I would like them to build out the interactions and make them friendlier."
"They need to improve on claims about being an enterprise system."
"It definitely needs HA, because we have so many applications that are dependent on AppMon that it has been deemed critical. Any downtime, it just affects so many users. So that's one of our key asks for the future."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The product is expensive."
"AWS Auto Scaling's price is high."
"AWS Auto Scaling is a pay-per-use and pay-as-you-use service."
"The product has moderate pricing."
"AWS Auto Scaling is a cheap solution."
"The pricing is good. I have not had any customers that have complained about the price."
"AWS Auto Scaling is an expensive solution."
"We license it for two environments, typically all of production and all of one lower environment, usually our staging environment. If there is a downside to Dynatrace, the only thing I can think of would be the cost. If it were cheaper, I'd have it in all my environments. I don't think they're charging more than it's worth, by any means. It's just that good software costs money."
"The pricing is not bad, but it could be better."
"The licensing model is confusing in solutioning clients for the number of hosts needed to deploy."
"There is time savings. People's times have been cut in half using this solution because we were previously doing a lot of that manual work. Now, it's a lot more automated, and the data is just there."
"Financially Dynatrace was a lot more expensive than AppDynamics."
"The pricing and licensing are very expensive."
"Dynatrace has a place for everybody. How you use it and what your budgetary limitations are will dictate what you do with it. But it's within everybody's reach. If you're a small organization and you have a large infrastructure, you may not be able to monitor the whole thing. You may have to pick and choose what you want to monitor, and you have the ability to do so. Your available funds are going to dictate that."
"Make sure your leadership buy-in is in place. Ensure leadership understands that an APM solution is a fairly expensive, so they know what they are getting into."
