A cloud solution for warehousing with a troubleshooting feature
The initial setup is straightforward. It's based on user requirements. We also conduct heat mapping using a couple of tools. The only requirement is to understand the technical or configuration aspects from the user's end and then configure it. Mist takes no more than 15 to 20 minutes for a particular deployment. You need to understand the end user's environment and have a concrete plan on whether it's a greenfield installation or an existing one, considering the density and height. Based on that, we need to develop a passive heat map. Then, you need to discuss with the user to understand exactly what needs to be configured and what they require in their environment. Based on that, you can proceed with the installation. Additionally, you can perform post-installation heat mapping to ensure it matches the earlier heat map. I rate the initial setup an eight out of ten, where one is difficult, and ten is easy.

Offers remote management capabilities, real-time view of our network, and complete visibility
Auvik's UI, while informative, can be a hurdle for new users due to its complexity. It offers a steep learning curve that necessitates extensive training for beginners. As someone who's been using it for nine months, I find it valuable, but it overwhelms my less experienced colleagues. While not a major issue, improving the UI's user-friendliness for beginners would be a welcome change. The network map's user-friendliness is a seven out of ten. While it offers comprehensive information, it can be overwhelming at first glance due to the sheer amount of detail. However, the filtering system is excellent, allowing us to focus on the specific aspects we need once we get accustomed to it. Overall, the map excels at displaying network information, but initial filtering is necessary for a smooth experience. While I find Auvik to be a valuable tool, it's not beginner-friendly enough for my tier-one technicians to use independently. Ideally, I would have liked a solution that could bridge the gap and lighten my load, but Auvik currently requires training and isn't easy to pick up for new users. Due to our busy schedules, we haven't been able to invest the time in training them yet, but I believe Auvik has the potential to be more user-friendly in the future. While the support team was excellent, the onboarding process for Auvik felt overwhelming from the start. The sessions weren't very productive, leaving us to do much of the setup ourselves, which has delayed realizing the full value of the product.

Troubleshooting at the packet level helps us resolve issues more quickly
The solution provides increased visibility during an IT deployment. It enables us to troubleshoot a service when it is down. As we expand our company, more users are using the tool to quickly resolve issues. It helps us and them get to root cause quickly. For example, last week a DNS was not running anymore. We checked the packet and saw that there was a buffer overload. It has cut our overall troubleshooting time. Sometimes it took a month to troubleshoot something that we can now do within days. nGenius has helped increase application or network uptime. The DNS I mentioned is now a better server with more capacity than before, because of our troubleshooting. We see a measurable decrease in mean time to know and mean time to repair. We see that when our customers are using this tool, their stability on the link is getting better and better, every time they use it. Also, we use the solution for unified communication application performance and it helps with uptime and end-user experience. Sometimes the quality of voice calls is not good enough, so we use the Media Monitor to check the quality in real-time.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The single dashboard is a valuable feature."
"We can manage the entire system across the network and troubleshoot the pain points."
"Auvik was one of the very few solutions that had the features I was looking for. That's why I signed up for the trial. Immediately, I knew it's what I was looking for."
"Auvik has alerts that help you be proactive by telling you when something is behaving abnormally."
"It is useful for configuration management and automated backup. It is one of my favorite features because it is low-hanging fruit, and it is easy to accomplish, but on a network where we've got infrastructure devices in hundreds, it is an arduous task to keep on top of. Auvik does it all automatically, so that's probably one of my favorites because it is important, and it just does it automatically. I don't even have to think about it."
"I like the quick mapping. I can put a customer in, and I can put the Auvik monitor in, and then probably within about half an hour to an hour, I can see most of the map."
"I like having a remote tunnel where I can access web interfaces inside a network, whether it's a DVR, an NDR camera system, a printer interface, or an IoT device that has a local web interface. I love being able to tunnel in straight through Auvik instead of having to VPN in or remote to another. It's more straightforward and makes troubleshooting that device more accessible."
"Auvik makes it super simple to have sub-tenants and you can then view high-level details from the "parent" tenant, which is our MSP interface, while also diving deep into the client-side and having full access there for assigning client-level permissions."
"If it's purely network monitoring, it's absolutely brilliant. It shows ups and downs, and provides a lot more information than you generally need."
"I find the mapping topology, traffic insights, and reporting to be the most valuable features that Auvik offers."
"One of the valuable features is the packet decoding."
"vSTREAM gives us better visibility and reporting about our network infrastructure, allowing for cost-optimization."

Cons

"The Wi-Fi side needs improvement."
"The technical support needs improvement."
"The tutorial could be a little bit more comprehensive."
"Auvik's notifications could be better."
"The visualization of network mapping is good. The only complaint would be that VLANs don't necessarily show up as a regular LAN does. They do show up, but there is some manual tuning you have to do to make that look perfect."
"A room for improvement would be integration with our help desk system."
"The pricing always has room for improvement."
"Things are easily confused if there are multiple data feeds."
"When we deal with larger networks, the current interface is difficult to navigate around the network map because of the volume of devices."
"Auvik's network map, while helpful, could benefit from improved clarity."
"Room for improvement exists in filtering in the packet decode."
"I would like for it to have a smaller footprint of the virtual appliance and better performance."
"I would like to see improvements made to the user guide."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is expensive."
"We have licenses per year. It is on a network device, so we pay for switches and firewalls. Everything else is included, e.g., computers, access points, and printers."
"Its pricing is definitely competitive with everything else that's out there. If somebody has not shopped for a product like Auvik for a while, there's probably going to be some sticker shock because it is not cheap, but that's true for all the products that we looked at."
"Auvik offers two publicly available pricing tiers, but there are also additional options that require contacting a sales representative."
"For the way that it's deployed, where the pricing only affects certain devices—meaning there are some free devices, so that you don't pay for everything—it's quite nicely priced in the middle. It's not an overpriced product, but it's also not a very cheap product."
"While their pricing aligns with competitors, the benefit of having these additional devices monitored for free makes Auvik a compelling option."
"Auvik is a good product for the price. The license is reasonable. We took a chance on it and figured it would work for us. It did even more than we expected."
"The pricing is favorable."
"Auvik is a cost-efficient solution for the applications we use it for."
"Licensing is quite expensive."
