Excellent support, easy configuration, and a reliable tool to know what the problem is and where the problem is
They should try and make diagnostics run a bit quicker. When the problem occurs on a network, AppNeta runs automatic diagnostics on the end-to-end path. The path it was testing only to the destination, it now runs the same test to all of the devices and all the intermediate devices. Depending on the number of intermediate devices, it can take several minutes to run. If we're trying to find or diagnose a problem that only lasts two or three minutes, it may be that the diagnostics is still running by the time the problem is cleared. The only thing, which I have also mentioned to AppNeta in the past, is that there should be much faster and much more lightweight diagnostics, which can be completed within 30 seconds or one minute, rather than in 5 to 10 minutes. Currently, when we have short-duration problems, we use a different tool, but we only use that different tool for short-duration problems. With AppNeta, as long as the problem exists for more than a few minutes, such as within 10 to 15 minutes, we can normally tell where the problem is. However, most of the problems that we deal with are intermittent. They're very rarely a permanent condition that needs to be addressed. That makes it more difficult to troubleshoot. We would look to see at least two or three events and hope they show the same results to raise our confidence that we've actually found the problem, rather than just a problem.

Unified monitoring has improved event handling but needs stronger AI automation and modern dashboards
OpenText AI Operations Management could benefit from a fully integrated AI system, which we call AIOps. A fully integrated AI operations system would be valuable in the future. Additionally, the UI experience could be more comfortable. We are not using predictive features in OpenText AI Operations Management such as anomaly detection. In the future, we may be able to operate with our customer, but we need to decide this collectively. You need to see the big picture and understand what the customer's pain points are to find the right tuning. Normally, predictive features can be more useful, but this is an end-to-end solution that needs to be customized. You need to understand the exact customer needs. The predictive analytics feature is very close to being integrated, but it is not fully integrated at this time.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Technical support is exceptional. They are very available, willing to work with our technicians and engineers and very open to providing training to understand their product more thoroughly."
"Every experience that I have had with them has been outstanding."
"We have peace of mind that our redundant circuits are fully operational and ready to take VoIP calls if they are needed."
"Delivery and experience are valuable. The usage in terms of the traffic application captures and other similar things is also valuable."
"With one of our federal customers, we deployed these throughout their network and found multiple cases of misconfigured routers and NICs, which allowed the customer to move to a VOIP solution."
"The solution's technical support is very good."
"End-to-End video testing - we would deploy m22s into a client’s network where we plan to deploy a high end video endpoint, allowing us to ensure that the client's network is capable of handling the planned video traffic over 24 hours or 7 days so that we can see the effect of any other traffic on the network, such as nightly backups."
"It has helped us to see issues or problems rather than having a customer report them."
"The most valuable feature is that everything can be consolidated into one dashboard."
"Be patient, and take things step by step to get it going; once that takes place, it's pretty self-sufficient."
"The Performance Manager provides great insight into our systems' performance."
"HPE helped us aggregate, and we now have all these layers in one layer, so we are looking at the service from the core of it, not from a resource perspective or from an IT, servers-based perspective."
"We have a bunch of critical servers and applications, and we are able to monitor using this product to create a dashboard and have automatic alerts to notify the responsible team."
"You can create an application topology that shows relationships between different components."
"It has the capability to display overall health of the infrastructure and is very useful for executive reports on the health of the infrastructure."
"We have gone from 100 to 700 servers without any hiccups; it is a very scalable product."

Cons

"Instead of integrating with other people, they should expand their interior capabilities."
"AppNeta by Broadcom needs to add more features to its dashboards. It also needs to work on providing out-of-the-box reports."
"Fully monitoring asymmetrical links is more costly and complex than symmetrical ones."
"I would like to see the following improvements in accessibility: The ability to see the details concerning incidents and their reasons right on the graph, the ability to open those events right from the graph, the ability to see the applications being used at that time."
"I would like to see some advanced dashboard features. It could also be integrated with third-party tools. For example, an integration with a reporting solution would be helpful. Out-of-the-box, there are few dashboards or reports. What it does have is useful, but there should be additional dashboards."
"Alerting. We have so many paths in our environment that it is strictly a reactive tool, not proactive."
"They should try and make diagnostics run a bit quicker. When the problem occurs on a network, AppNeta runs automatic diagnostics on the end-to-end path. The path it was testing only to the destination, it now runs the same test to all of the devices and all the intermediate devices. If we're trying to find or diagnose a problem that only lasts two or three minutes, it may be that the diagnostics is still running by the time the problem is cleared. The only thing, which I have also mentioned to AppNeta in the past, is that there should be much faster and much more lightweight diagnostics, which can be completed within 30 seconds or one minute, rather than in 5 to 10 minutes."
"Because of the nature of how AppNeta works in terms of using bursts to depict how a network path performs, it is hard to correlate 24 hour performance 100% accurately."
"We are waiting for quicker release cycles. Also containerized upgrade, so that you don't have to bring a system entirely down to make a minor upgrade, in fact, or a minor patch."
"I would evaluate them as weak, unfortunately. They're barely bearable in the quality of the guys that support us."
"Currently the BVD, it's not living. We would like to see more sensors in the dashboard."
"It can run a little slow if not configured correctly or if a customer doesn't use it properly."
"The UI could be better. The ease of use, deployment, upgrades, and licensing could be better."
"There are pretty heavy limits on what the system can do."
"For OMi, it's not stable enough to get an enterprise solution out of it."
"The technical support is normally very good, but occasionally patchy."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I inherited this from a different version, and I haven't yet gone through a renewal because we had purchased three years upfront. So, to me, that still remains to be seen. Once it comes up for renewal, we'll see what happens. Especially because now it is Broadcom, it is going to change anyway."
"I find the solution's price to be fairly good."
"AppNeta by Broadcom is not expensive."
"It's worth the money."
"Broadcom software is always a little expensive because they provide quality."
"We typically don't get involved in the commercial side, but the list price is probably something like $3,000 for a small probe. However, that gives all of the features that the probe can do, whether or not you use them. In the old days, up until two or three years ago, each of the separate features was a separately licensable module so that you could add things that you wanted, and you didn't have to add things that you didn't want. They've changed all that now, and everything the probe can do is a part of the base license."
"The small probe is probably around $3,000 and the very large probe that they make for massive data centers might be $50,000 or $60,000. It's a subscription model, so the payment is per year."
"As OpsBridge is a suite of products bundled together, you may find yourself paying for software functionality that you don't actually use, e.g. Real User Monitor (RUM)."
"Pricing is very flexible and depends on the modules selected as per the requirement."
"The cost is very high."
"The licensing model for Micro Focus Operations Bridge is unit-based so it can be one device or ten devices depending on your situation or model. Cost-wise, it's much more if you have more devices and features such as infrastructure monitoring, analytic dashboard, and business dashboard in your model."
"Setup costs can be high depending on the partner, but it is worth it."
"The licensing cost for this solution is approximately $1,000 USD."
"It is competitive."
