Optimized restaurant analytics has driven faster insights and streamlined daily reporting
Amazon Redshift offers massive parallel processing capability, allowing it to handle millions of records, along with integration with other AWS features such as S3 and QuickSight. The column-level storage supports high performance and easy data retrieval compared to other tools. The integration with S3 has helped my team immensely since S3 is our starting source, and the direct integration with Amazon Redshift simplifies the transformation and loading process. Columnar storage has benefited our performance significantly, allowing us to extract specific rows from tables with years of data much faster than other tools with row-level storage. Amazon Redshift has positively impacted our organization by significantly improving query performance and speed. Features such as easy integration with S3 allow us to process millions of records efficiently, ultimately saving us nearly one hour per day for our project.

Offers smooth data integration between systems, but requires better real-time analytics capabilities
We leverage its capabilities for many applications. We can integrate with our databases, like Oracle, MySQL, or any other, using Microsoft Integration Services. This lets us continue using private databases without paying additional licensing fees. Additionally, the license includes Analytics services and Power BI, which work on-premises, unlike most other technologies that require cloud solutions.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Redshift's versioning and data security are the two most critical features; when migrating into the cloud, it's vital to secure the data, and the encryption and security are there."
"The tool's most valuable feature is its parallel processing capability. It can handle massive amounts of data, even when pushing hundreds of terabytes, and its scaling capabilities are good."
"Amazon Redshift's performance optimization and scalability are quite helpful, providing functionalities such as scaling up and down."
"I work in the real estate industry, and the best features I appreciate about Amazon Redshift include its efficiency in managing large datasets."
"All this at an extremely low price makes it possible for small to medium sized organizations to use Redshift’s power to get business insights."
"Its simplicity in configuration, cost-effectiveness due to being in the cloud and close to our data sources, and the fact that it's a managed service that is scalable and reliable are highly valuable."
"Based on quality of the product and its price, it is the one of the best options available in the market now."
"It helped my customers migrate off on-premise platforms such as Teradata to Redshift, at a fraction of the cost."
"Helps our customers to discover trends, which provides useful information based on their business."
"I like that it's integrated with other Azure products."
"This is a well-integrated solution and that integration empowers results."
"I like that it's integrated with other Azure products."
"This solution will connect to any database, you can combine databases, and you can create a cube or tabular model."
"The most valuable part of the product is that it is a system, with different tools for different services for different kinds of scenarios, making it a very rich, integrated, technology-rich platform whose total integration with the rest of Microsoft products creates flexibility and compatibility and makes the tool a very useful one."
"We leverage its capabilities for many applications. We can integrate with our databases, like Oracle, MySQL, or any other, using Microsoft Integration Services."
"The result is a highly flexible, affordable, and scalable platform that makes large-scale Hub and Spoke EDW architectures a practical reality."

Cons

"Improvement could be made in the area of streaming data."
"The product could be improved by making it more flexible."
"What would make Amazon Redshift better is improvising on the pricing structure. For example, Acronis provides backups in cybersecurity, yet the pricing is a bit lesser than Amazon Redshift."
"Planting is the primary key enforcement that should be improved but there is probably a reason that they don't follow the reference architecture."
"I rate the solution as an eight out of ten because it is not 100 percent, as there is much service-related maintenance required."
"Amazon Redshift could improve by enhancing its UI to be more user-friendly for non-technical users and by offering better cost management, as similar tools tend to be less expensive."
"Planting is the primary key enforcement that should be improved."
"Redshift is costly compared to other solutions."
"On a scale from one to ten where one is the worst and ten is the best, I would rate this product overall as a five. This is probably because there is still a lot of room for improvement, features that other products have that are missing, and a lot of open-source technology nowadays that are very good and people can use instead."
"Machine learning and artificial intelligence capabilities need to be more friendly for beginning users."
"I think the biggest problem with the product is that it does a data ingest model, which is very expensive."
"In general, I am not really very satisfied with the tutorials that are out there."
"Hybrid environments are complex to manage."
"The trouble is Microsoft has changed their licensing. It's an extremely expensive product now."
"The pricing model needs to be improved."
"We need better real-time analytics capabilities. It's a bit challenging for us."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The cost must be improved."
"It's around $200 US dollars. There are some data transfer costs but it's minimal, around $20."
"At the moment, pricing is a little bit on the higher side, although it depends on the size of the company."
"Pricing for Amazon Redshift is reasonable, though it could be somewhat higher than other solutions, such as Azure. Still, when you base your comparison on the services offered and the pricing, it's the most reasonable versus its competitors, such as RDS."
"For Amazon Redshift, we pay around INR 60,000 annually. The cost factor also depends on the number of existing customers."
"The cost will depend on how you set up your warehouse and what kind of data you store."
"The product is cheap considering what it provides; I rate it five out of five for affordability."
"Per hour pricing is helpful to keep the costs of a pilot down, but long-term retention is expensive."
"I rate Microsoft Analytics Platform System a seven out of ten for pricing."
"Users have to pay extra for premium-level technical support."
"We are currently paying $200,000 a year for all the different parts of the suite during an ingest model Microsoft now charges us $700,000 a year."
"The initial price is lower than Oracle, but extensive use of SQL may lead to a higher total cost of ownership."
