An open-source solution that provide good detection and more visibility
The solution is not scalable. It impacts so hard. In the initial stages, AlienVault OSSIM can be suitable for small environments. There may be limitations if the customer expresses a desire to expand and add more devices. In such cases, we would need to either explore additional solutions or work within the constraints of the existing setup. We have set up alerts and configured everything in AlienVault OSSIM. It actively monitors for any security incidents. It provides us with regular updates and notifications about any ongoing activities. Only one person is using the solution. It is the perfect solution for small businesses. I rate the solution’s scalability a three out of ten.

Tool consistently aids in effective threat detection and monitoring but could benefit from improved log source management and resource optimization
One major area for improvement in LogRhythm SIEM is the lack of volume measurement capability in terms of storage. There is currently no way to determine how much data is being consumed in terms of gigabytes, terabytes, or petabytes from particular devices or environments. This information is crucial for planning future storage needs and scalability. The system monitor (collector) agent has issues with resource consumption. Even when not actively collecting data, the agent continues to consume significant CPU and memory resources, which can be particularly problematic for small business environments with limited resources. LogRhythm SIEM could improve by adding more default device support. While they have good default settings for devices such as Palo Alto firewalls, custom log sources often require extensive work. Increasing the number of supported devices with built-in policies and functionality would reduce the need for custom work. Competitive SIEM tools often provide more comprehensive coverage for various devices and vendors.

Experiencing frequent disconnections and support challenges but benefits from quick implementation and integration capabilities
The timeout of the tenant is an area that needs improvement. When investigating and gathering information from the Helix tenant for extended periods, disconnections occur. This results in lost work and the need to restart investigations due to disconnected sessions. It is problematic when progress is lost and investigations must be restarted, resulting in lost information and significant time wastage. The capability to integrate with other TIPs or cybersecurity intelligence sources could be improved to determine whether IOCs are malicious, similar to Mandiant's functionality. The capacity to reduce false positives needs improvement as we receive many alerts from Helix that turn out to be false positives upon investigation. Enhanced capability in this area would make the system more efficient and easier to use. The dashboards could be improved as customers frequently request real-time SOC dashboard displays for Helix.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The threat policies of the solution are always very advanced and the best in the market. They are very persistent in terms of keeping up with security protocols."
"Its user-friendliness is the most valuable. It is very easy to use and explore. The dashboard is very well packaged and integrated. You don't have to spend a lot of time in configuring it and checking out the RPM etc. It is also free and very powerful."
"The most valuable features of this solution are the data correlation and vulnerability assessment."
"You pay monthly for the solution. I think it's one of the best products. If you compare with other companies, like LogRhythm, etc., the top 8 or 10 CMs, I think Alien Vault has the best price-performance ratio."
"Network traffic analysis is highly efficient."
"Asset discovery is good."
"With AlienVault you get everything in one box."
"It has helped us remediate threats in the past by providing significant events that assisted in identifying suspicious activities, such as logins from multiple countries."
"Compliance reporting is another great feature of this product. It has built in reports right out of the box."
"It has helped us centralize and have better visibility into devices on our network. We are better able to respond to threats in a timely manner."
"LogRhythm SIEM offers advanced features such as AI engine modules, machine learning, and threat intelligence integration, which help reduce false positives. Advanced analytics streamlines incident response processes, enabling incident responders to prioritize and automate alerts."
"The most valuable feature of LogRhythm for me is the ability to correlate logs throughout many different log sources."
"The AI Engine can take an event and correlate it into something else giving us meaningful context regarding what is going on. We integrated it in with our ticketing system, so if an alarm fires, it raises a ticket in our system."
"As a SIEM, probably the best feature is that it can be tuned effectively. There are very few SIEMs out there that can be effectively tuned to provide you with meaningful information and not be overwhelmed."
"We integrated Azure logs with it and that makes it simpler. Rather than having to log into the portal, we can just check everything in one place. We can compare those to our Windows and host logs to see if any problems correlate between them."
"The initial setup process is very user-friendly."
"It is kind of simple and very easily deployable. You can start working with it very fast."
"As far as its core functionality goes, it’s spot-on."
"The most valuable features include predefined use cases and threatening states."
"The integration is very useful and very easy. You can have an API connection with any cloud and I'll be able to do both ways of communication with the help of APA."
"The best feature of Trellix Helix Connect is its quick implementation."
"We have started working with various customers, one of whom is particularly concerned about adjacency. We have identified several use cases where automation is possible."
"We are able to block some advanced malware and other things."
"I like that it's easy. It's got the protection set up, and we can see whatever is required. We write our own rules and the rules that we can input. I think it is good."

Cons

"The initial setup was a bit complex. You've got to do a lot of reading. It's not an intuitive implementation."
"I don't like to work on OSSIM because it is unpredictable."
"They can add more compliance templates."
"I suggest more in-built rules based on modern threats and environments to make it a more competitive solution."
"We need more dashboards and we need more customization for dashboards."
"The correlation engine needs to be improved."
"There needs to be more support or some kind of training program so users can self-learn the system more effectively."
"It's under heavy traffic. If you have heavy traffic, the system is slow."
"It will definitely help if the parsing side would be much easier, meaning it would be better if we could easily make adjustments on the parser, both on standard and non-standard log sources."
"I would like it to do a lot of the automation (which I still need to learn more about), because I am essentially a one man shop doing all the jobs. I'd like for it to be able to do more for me."
"I think there is room for improvement because the system is still running on the Windows Server platform. The problem with running on Windows is that it is not that good for scaling and providing for big deployment environments."
"I would like to see APIs well-documented and public facing, so we can get to them all."
"LogRhythm's SOAR and NDR features don't stack up well against competitors. maybe integrating theme functionality as the other do. But in general, it's okay."
"I would like to suggest that they should improve their usage of third party tools for making dashboards and reports. If they would create their own tools for dashboard and report, it would be much better in terms of security purposes."
"LogRhythm SIEM can improve its user interface. The current interface is quite complex and can be challenging to navigate. While it offers many valuable features, understanding how to access and utilize them efficiently takes time. Simplifying the client console's user interface would significantly enhance the user experience and make it more user-friendly."
"It should have some more message monitoring features. It can also have some free message monitoring tools."
"We often rely on Martins to create logs and provide professional threat services rather than basic support."
"It should have more cloud connectors. It could also be cheaper."
"Sometimes the rules are disabled by FireEye, and we basically get it after the patch. I think there needs to be a better way of creating the application rules. I would like to see better pricing for our licensing."
"While we have top customer support and this solution is highly beneficial, there is room for improvement due to the fusion of McAfee and FireEye, which has caused some lapses in support."
"Trellix Helix's configuration and learning could be improved to identify normal traffic from abnormal and to identify trusted domains."
"The graphical user interface could be improved. It's not easy to handle and it's not easy for a customer or end-user to learn how to manage the solution."
"FireEye Helix would be improved with the option of an on-prem version, which they don't currently offer."
"The support would rate a three out of ten. It can take one to four weeks to connect with someone who truly understands Helix and can provide solutions."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"AlienVault pricing is the best. Whatever cost you are paying, you are getting a return on every penny... It's not like your IBM, your QRadar, or Splunk, where the cost is too high."
"When comparing AlienVault OSSIM to Microsoft Sentinel, AlienVault OSSIM incurs additional costs due to its licensing price structure. If you are using AlienVault for security purposes at a certain level it can have a higher price point than the current pricing of Microsoft Sentinel."
"We are using a free version of the solution. If you purchase a license there are more features available but the price is a little high. The solution should be cheaper to allow more customers to be able to afford it."
"It is a very cost-effective solution."
"In the context of our country, the price of this solution is too high."
"The support which allows more customized to the environment when we are deploying new systems is called Professional Service and is very expensive. The technical annual support and there is an annual fee."

"On a scale of one to ten, where one is low, and ten is high, I rate the pricing between six and seven."
"I would rate the tool's pricing around eight out of ten."

"When it comes time to renew, they say, "This is what you are using. This is what we can do for you." So, they work with you on pricing."
"I rate Trellix Helix a five out of ten for pricing."
"The price could be better. But I think it's rightly placed when we buy everything in one shot, and we get some discount for that. That's how we basically plan our deployment, and it's holistic. We pay for the license yearly."
"It could be cheaper, but that applies to every product."
"FireEye Helix is a little expensive."
