Reliable backups have protected our manufacturing data and now provide confident disaster recovery
Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office is used to take care of the data for our manufacturing company and its users. I work with CrowdStrike only for antivirus. We have antivirus products, but not as a main solution. The antiviruses we are using are from another vendor. For antiviruses, we are using Falcon CrowdStrike. My main experience is with CrowdStrike antivirus and Palo Alto firewall. These are the two things for security, and we are exploring other software solutions that will be beneficial for us. I track two levels of ransomware protection: one from Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office and one from CrowdStrike. I do not work with Cortex cloud by Palo Alto; I have the hardware on-premise at my location. I do not work with WildFire, Prisma Access, or Prisma SD-WAN, but I will be looking forward to it. This is the only firewall I am using, but very soon, I will be opting for another Palo Alto firewall of the same model that will be working on high availability. I am not knowledgeable about the CN-Series firewall; I can only talk about the one I have. We have acquired one particular brand, a company called Pernod Ricard, which manufactures products like Chivas Regal whisky and Beefeater. Endpoint Detection and Response is something we will explore after a certain period of time and we are looking for it very soon. I would rate this review an overall eight out of ten.

Daily recovery tests have validated restore readiness and ensured consistent data protection
The best features of Unitrends include the daily reporting functionality. When backups fail, it is obvious in the logs what caused the issue. Most times it is a credential problem, which is relatively easy to resolve. Though I have experienced a few more challenging issues, nothing has affected critical backup restore functionality. Every time I have needed to restore something, it has worked successfully. The support team is readily available when I need assistance, and they help walk me through issues, solving them within a reasonable timeframe. The automated backup scheduling feature has helped our organization in managing backup timelines and consistency by handling all the work automatically. We set the schedule, breaking things into smaller chunks since our main common area for files is large. I have staggered the backups so some areas receive more attention than others, particularly for less active data. Adding, removing, excluding, and inputting elements is straightforward. The system makes it simple to schedule portions and generate reports on their functionality. The impact of Unitrends' instant recovery features on strengthening data security measures is significant. I generally use instant recovery when restoring specific files or instances where we need data that has changed. The process involves loading the backup, selecting the desired version, waiting for it to unpack, and retrieving the file. Every restore attempt has been successful. I run instant recovery daily in test mode on two virtual machines. I use it to test my domain controller and file server to ensure they communicate properly in the test environment. This ensures that in case of failure, I can activate the recovery and restore server functionality.

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Acronis schedules in the background and does incremental images so it doesn’t take forever to backup."
"When it comes to backup, the biggest benefits of Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office are its reliability and the assurance it provides, which we have specifically tried and tested during disasters as it saved us from losing data."
"The reliable tool allows for quick restoration from backup copies, meaning I do not have to reload Windows or programs."
"The customer service and support are excellent."
"The malware feature is most valuable."
"It works as expected the vast majority of the time, which is an improvement over other products that seem to break with the slightest change in the environment."
"The ability to backup both physical and virtual machines, along with having an appliance store the backups locally instead of on a file server, NAS, or SAN."
"This product has given us the ability to remote manage, monitor and report multiple client sites and we have relied on this appliance several times to recover our clients from crypto viruses that have locked their files for ransom."
"I am impressed with the tool's reporting and UniView features."
"Unitrends has helped us cut down the time that it takes to restore a server to its original configuration."
"Every time I have needed to restore something, it has worked successfully."
"It is an all-inclusive backup appliance that is separate from other storage needed to backup and has the ability to backup both virtual and physical nodes."
"The stability is rock solid."

Cons

"I had a couple of false positives, but that’s it."
"The configuration needs improvement."
"I originally intended to use Acronis for cloud backup, however, the cloud backup had major problems. After struggling with it for about two years, I switched to Carbonite and have not gone back."
"Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office needs to improve their reporting part, and the support provided is sometimes inadequate, which causes issues for customers."
"Making the seeding process more accessible and easier to understand. Also, make more of the undocumented best practices easier to find."
"Stabilizing SQL database backups: They are way too sensitive and I am having to constantly fix SQL level backups."
"Technical support has not been very helpful when there are complex issues. It is sometimes difficult to find someone who can answer questions the right way."
"It would be great to have the job throttle/limit the max number of backups on a single ESXi host."
"Comparing the features and the working pattern, definitely they have to come down on pricing if they want to compete in the market."
"Every few years, an update may not be applied right and we may have to manually reload the software."
"Probably the biggest issue I've had is actually paying for the unit, and part of that problem is that they use a third party for the billing."
"Unitrends can be challenging to scale."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"Make sure you do the homework to size the solution properly. Buy the Enterprise Plus licensing if you can afford it."
"When you purchase initially, get into the program which gives replacement hardware for free when you renew your support agreement."
"Unitrends is an expensive solution."
"Based on a scale of one to ten, with one being low and ten being high, I would rate the pricing of this solution as a three. Also, there are no additional costs involved in the standard licensing of the solution."
"When we renew the Unitrends maintenance contract and update it to the latest version, the cost would be $5,000 per year. There are no hidden costs. They've been transparent with the costs."
"We found that the cost of Unitrends was about the same as the Dell DR6300. We liked the fact that the Unitrends appliance was all-in-one."
"Initial pricing is competitive. Renewal pricing is steep, so make sure to project costs for the lifetime of the appliance(s)."
