What is our primary use case?
This is a backup tool that has been acquired by Google. Now, it is part of Google Cloud service.
This is for backup and disaster recovery purposes. This is mainly for workloads that are on Google Cloud, like virtual machines or databases which are on Google Cloud.
How has it helped my organization?
I am part of the team that is delivering solutions based on Actifio. I do design plans and implement them for other customers who buy Actifio. It's hard to answer this question as I don't use it as a product as such; I do the design and implementation for others.
What is most valuable?
There are quite a few features that I appreciate.
Instant backups and object storage are very useful.
It can integrate with cyber recovery solutions and is very efficient in terms of space. This is useful when dealing with backups for very large databases.
It supports database refresh activities very efficiently.
The product is easy to set up.
It's pretty stable.
Technical support is good.
What needs improvement?
As of now, it's predominantly meant for Google Cloud. It would be good if it could be extended to other clouds as well.
We'd like to have the ability to have backups of our on-prem workloads and also be able to have it integrate with cybersecurity solutions.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I'd rate the stability seven out of ten. The stability is good.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I'd rate the scalability seven out of ten. It's pretty scalable.
It's not multi-cloud, so that's the one area of limitation. The scalability is limited. It is like pay-as-you-go. You deploy more and more backup plans to protect more data.
How are customer service and support?
Google support is good. They are skilled in bringing the resolution or providing any custom hot fix or custom modification required.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I used to work with Dell. I changed companies, and this company uses Actifio.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straightforward. I'd rate the experience eight out of ten.
Time-wise, maybe within a couple of hours, everything should be up and running.
You need to have good planning to have network communication between your VPCs where your workloads reside and where your backup appliance resides. Good planning is required connectivity-wise. In terms of authentication, you need to plan what level of authentication is required for what level of users. These are the two main things that need to be taken care of at the outset.
From the integrator side, one guy should be enough to deploy the product.
Once it is operational and handed over, it's up to the customer to handle the product, to maintain the product.
What about the implementation team?
I am playing the role of integrator for Google. I handle the initial setup.
What was our ROI?
For the clients, there is definitely an ROI. You don't need a dedicated backup administrator anymore to perform your backups, for example. The application owner can do the backups and change the backup schedules or do the restore activity. Unlike traditional backup products, they need an intervention of a backup administrator to perform these activities. This solution can speed up internal processes and also eliminate the need for a backup administrator.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It's on-demand pricing; pay as you go. It's billing on your Google Cloud. At the end of the month, you get a certain bill amount for what you have consumed. There are no extra costs or fees involved.
I'd rate the solution six out of ten in terms of affordability. The pricing isn't too bad.
What other advice do I have?
We have a partnership with Google. Google has outsourced the professional services optimization of this solution to us. Whenever they do any deal with the customer, they outsource us. They outsource the design and deployment activities to our company.
If the customer is predominantly on Google Cloud. This is the best backup solution since it is integrated as a service within the Google Cloud. More and more developments are in the pipeline for product enhancements. Therefore, it should be a good bet for customers who are predominantly using Google Cloud.
I'd rate the solution six out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
Google
