What is ManageEngine OpUtils?

ManageEngine OpUtils is a popular and comprehensive network monitoring management solution that is designed to address the day-to-day needs of network administrators and system administrators.

ManageEngine OpUtils can be used for the following tasks:

• Monitoring system configuration, resource utilization, and more.
• Monitoring all networking resources’ traffic and performance.
• Detecting and resolving LAN environment connectivity problems.
• Enabling visibility of DNS names, IP addresses, and MAC addresses.
• Monitoring and maintaining Cisco devices.

Some of the features of OpUtils include:

• IP address management: Scans your entire network to determine the availability and status of IP addresses. OpUtils provides you with a centralized view into your network address space by consistently monitoring multiple network subnets and supernets.

The IP address management tool includes the following features:

• DNS and MAC address resolvers: Translate host name into IP addresses or MAC addresses and back.

• DHCP scope monitor: Discover used and free IP addresses in the scopes of the DHCP server.

• MAC IP list: View a list of your network’s MAC and IP addresses.

• IP conflict detection: Track both static and dynamic environments, including manual IP configurations and DHCP allocations for allocation conflicts.

• IP address reservation: You can reserve an IP address or multiple IP addresses for future usage by marking the IP as "reserved" to prevent it from being allocated. OpUtils provides a list of reserved IP addresses.

• View IP history: The OpUtils history feature allows you to view the history of IP addresses for auditing purposes. This makes it possible to track the user who was allocated a specific IP address on a given date.

• Integrate with Active Directory: OpUtils easily integrates with the Active Directory on Windows-based networks and is able to determine if an IP belongs to an Active Directory Computer Object.

• Set up event alerts: Configure alerts to receive notification of events like DNS Lookup failures or an IP state change. These alerts help administrators to detect and resolve problems early on.

• View IP address reports: IP Address Manager provides ready-to-use reports with information on IP usage and lists of unused or reserved IP addresses.

• Custom columns: The IP Address Manager allows you to add any number of custom columns to add custom user-defined information to store with the IP addresses. The custom columns can also work with imported data.

• Switch port mapping: The OpUtils Switch Port Mapper software discovers and maps all the devices plugged into a specified switch’s port. This helps system and network engineers to view the IP, MAC, status, and availability of all ports. You can also view real-time operational status and port speed of each port.

The Switch Port Mapper tools enables users to:

• Set schedules for switch scans.
• Add custom columns to the switch port mapper.
• View switch port mapping history and results.
• Configure the switch interface.
• Add and modify aliases to switch interfaces.
• View switch usage reports.

• Rogue Device Detection Software: OpUtils scans routers and subnets to discover and list new network systems or devices, such as desktops/laptops (wired), mobile users (wireless), routers, switches, etc. After each scan, your administrator verifies all the valid systems and devices, and can mark them as trusted, guest or rogue. The tool displays which switches and ports each device or system is connected with and alerts when a new system or device is detected or when its guest validation expires. The system also allows admins to block switch ports in order to prevent unauthorized access.

• Real-time network monitoring: Continuously monitor any network node for real-time availability status. You can also monitor any server, website or web application.

With the monitoring tool you can:

• Monitor your servers to view their availability and response times.

• Configure alerts based on the severity of the problem to notify for detected anomalies.

• Maintain a history of alerts.

• Config file manager: Download and view the start-up and running configuration files from a given Cisco Router. You can also view highlighted differences between the two files.

• Diagnostic tools: Access a collection of generic tools for easy management of your network and system. The tools can be used to detect and debug connectivity issues and LAN environment packet loss and latency.

These tools include:

• Pinging tool: Ping a node to check its network connectivity status.

• SNMP ping: Ping a node to determine if it is SNMP enabled.

• Proxy ping: Ping from a remote router to another remote device.

• Trace route: Record the route from the network host to the target destination.

• Set up access control: Maintain security by setting up user profiles and access levels for IT members. Users can access only their authorized modules, subnets, and switch ports.

• Cisco device scan: Scan a subnet or an IP address range to collect data and view the information of all Cisco devices in the subnet or range.

• Cisco device explorer: Scan and view Cisco device details, such as device snapshot, chassis details, IOS details, flash memory information, interfaces, IP routes, CPU and memory usage, and access lists.

• Mobile app: Using OpUtils’ mobile application, you can access comprehensive information on your network endpoints and address space and quickly troubleshoot your network issues directly from your smartphone or tablet from anywhere at any given time.
