HPE Data Protector is ranked as the number one data loss protection software of Q1 2017 by our users -- but what do they really think of the tool?
Darren Oneill, Systems Engineer at a pharma/biotech company with 1,001-5,000 employees, shares:
“The granularity of brick-level restore functionality is very valuable. We receive approximately 10 restore requests on a daily basis for your typical file/folder restore, with the odd Exchange mailbox restore request thrown in, just to keep me on my toes.”
“I would like to have more capacity”, writes a Head of Systems and Data Services at a financial services firm with 1,001-5,000.
“This can be done by having more deduplication and compression. If they can compress the data more and more, we will save more space. We won’t need to pay for more and more space, especially in the Oracle databases, where we don’t get much compression.
I would like to see them address this issue, so we can have the Oracle database compressed to the maximum level.”

Another component that is very valuable from my point of view is the Data Insight component that allows the client to have full visibility into the company data.”
When asked which areas in Symantec Data Loss Protection could use improvement, Alexandru-Adrian shares that “the Symantec DLP solution is very complex, and installation requires many components. Also, Oracle is only the DB used by Symantec.”
#3 Intel Security ePolicy Orchestrator
Intel Security ePolicy Orchestrator is ranked as the number three solution by our users during Q1 2017.
“The ePO server is configured to send me a report of virus signature versions and VirusScan Enterprise patch levels of all connected PCs by email on a daily basis” describes Samson Tai, Senior Manager of IT at a recruiting/HR firm with 51-200 employees.
He explains that “This saves me a lot of my time, as I don’t have to check this information on all PCs manually. I end up with a beautiful report to show my auditor about how the anti-virus software is implemented.”
“The fact that it uses MSSQL, and cannot be deployed on anything other than Windows, can be problem”, finds Mikael Takeo, Security Manager at Fujitsu Sweden.
“The system can get slow at times when you do big searches and reports”, adds Takeo.

Nice solutions, I was wondering if all customers know their business data value before hiring the people to manage their Data Loss Solution. I work for a BIG IT company and work direct with over 600 customers world wide and I can certain say that 9 out of 10 hire 3rd part companies that works with other contractors where the focus is low cost but quality/security is just awful. Within 30 min reviewing their solution I can point out many breaches and lack of process that put the entire company business data in danger.
