Regarding improvements for SQL Server 2014 Express, I believe it is quite helpful, but I suggest enhancing security since it involves customer data and we do not want to lose data or have it misused. Moreover, improving the backup and restore process to retrieve data faster would be beneficial, and a key concern would be better scalability and reliability than what I currently have.
SQL Server 2014 Express can improve by utilizing more memory, as it currently makes very limited memory available to the database engine. It could also use more resources and become faster. The biggest operational limitations of SQL Server 2014 Express are the 10 GB database limit, memory restrictions, and the absence of SQL Server Agent. These are areas for improvement, and for scaling environments, SQL Server often becomes constrained by database sizes and resource limits, necessitating migration.

SQL Server 2014 Express could be improved by offering multiple authentication methods. Currently, I authenticate with Active Directory service principal or manage the server identity, but having a verification code or OTP system would make it easier for users who struggle to remember passwords or lack access to managed identities.
However, I also realized its limitation when I tried working on a large database. It is not perfect because it provides 10 GB per database. If we are storing a large database or large data, 10 GB is not proper for storing. Overall, I would recommend SQL Server 2014 Express for a student and as a free version you can use it, but not for a large database or a company database. There are also performance issues. SQL Server 2014 Express is fast, but it is not perfectly scalable because it provides only 10 GB per database size. However, it has proper error handling. I think SQL Server 2014 Express can be improved by first improving the database size. Making the maximum size a user can have per database is needed. Right now it is 10 GB. Increase it to a maximum so a user can save as much data as they want, approaching unlimited data storage. Additionally, the operating system should be supported on every Windows variation, including Linux and every other operating system. A backup option is also needed because SSMS is not providing built-in backup features.
I cannot particularly mention one scenario where SQL Server 2014 Express has helped us the best, as it has helped in all scenarios. Whenever we put more data, the query time is more because it is not an Enterprise version and the data storage is limited to 10 GB, which is the only drawback I can identify. Perhaps the only thing I can say is it is best to avoid using SQL Server 2014 Express for any scheduled automation tasks or if the data is large and we need to perform analytics, as those cases will not work. SQL Server 2014 Express is not a 10 for me only because I have experienced other databases.
