I didn't start with JumpMind SymmetricDS, I actually started using it at a job when I was a little more introduced to data replication. That made me able to see the good features this software has. But anyway, would I recommend it for a newbie? Sure, why not. It has a user-friendly interface that I think you can get the hang of pretty quickly and its features are pretty much self-explanatory. Of course, you need to gain some knowledge on data replication but I think as long as you've researched the basics, you'll learn as you go.
Hey data replication beginner, a fellow newbie here! Came to say that the JumpMind SymmetricDS is both easy to install and easy to use. I started working at a company that needed to change its data replication software for a more efficient one just as I was stepping in. They chose this one and I was a complete beginner at it, knowing the basics of replication only. But I soon learned that this is a great option for new users because of its many features and its good and simple-to-use interface that simultaneously gives you many options as well. I do recommend it!
