The solution can be used to back up servers and Hyper-V cluster nodes, but its support is super expensive
I wouldn't rate Unitrends a ten out of ten because we had some hard drive failures in the appliance. Typically, when you have OneDrive, you can get it replaced. For some particular reason, the situation caused the entire system to crash. We had to reinstall the CentOS operating system on it, and we lost all our backups. They said there was no way to retain it, and it was pretty devastating and concerning that a drive failure would cause the loss of all the data on the appliance. It was extremely disappointing, and we had to start from scratch after three years worth of backup data. I rate Unitrends a nine out of ten for stability.

Enhanced data retention and recovery with robust backup features
The Oracle Agent and Oracle RAC support are valuable features; they are crucial for taking backups and cloning applications. NetBackup Appliance has many features. Backup Exec is a great product as well. NetBackup is well-developed with strong features, including deduplication technology, which allows us to retain backups for longer periods—exceeding our expectations by keeping backups for almost a month. It's effective for data recovery and capable of handling large-scale data recoveries. It is very stable and keeps applications secure. However, the AI integration is not yet tested.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's not easy to scale it."
"The ability to back up both physical and virtual appliances under one roof."
"I really like the reporting options you get for various email reports."
"The ability to diversify jobs within the same server helps break down a large chunk of data into more manageable and concentrated chunks."
"The backup feature and recovery option are good because they allow the instant recovery of Hyper-V nodes and files."
"It is fairly stable."
"I am impressed with the tool's reporting and UniView features."
"The simple and fast restore routine."
"We find the pricing is reasonable."
"Veritas NetBackup Appliance's most valuable feature is information backup."
"The intelligent policies feature is used in order to protect the VMware infrastructure. One of the things that makes a big difference for our company is the usage of these intelligence policies. The system automatically provides extra protection for any VMware server application or service. From a backup administrator's point of view, this is what we call peace of mind. It reduces the workload and therefore reduces resources needed from the company."
"We mainly use Windows for all our operating systems. Our databases are SQL databases. For backups, we set up one master server and three process servers. Our company isn't big, so this setup works well for us. We install the Veritas NetBackup Appliance agent on all the systems that need to be backed up."
"I can confidently say that I have managed more than 30 or 50 appliances over different time periods, and yet I never had a single hardware failure."
"I personally find Veritas NetBackup Applicance hassle-free."
"The solution has a very easy-to-navigate user interface."
"The tool is easy to use, stable, and performs well, but it depends on the environment where it is deployed. It is leaning more toward huge enterprises where it is positioned. It needs to be as easy as others but addresses more complex requirements."

Cons

"There are a few quirks where the GUI, agent, and back-end are not precisely meshed."
"Unitrends can be challenging to scale."
"The solution’s UI can be improved. I am saying this because I have seen solutions with better UIs."
"It could be a little more customizable."
"Support is great for small simple issues, but anything more difficult, it is hard to get good resolutions without having to badger them and their management."
"The solution’s support and onboarding process needs to be improved."
"The solution's base operating system needs to be improved."
"No appliance update notifications."
"The scalability could be improved."
"Sometimes, the user interface doesn't work smoothly."
"The cost per terabyte is extremely high."
"More licensing options could be introduced to the software. It is currently based on capacity only. Compared to competitors, it is difficult to position it economically everywhere. From the usability point of view, they are making many improvements on new interfaces, the SaaS offering, etc."
"Veeam has a verification action, which is good."
"The technical support services could be better."
"The product must improve its recovery features."
"Technical support for this solution needs to be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Their licensing depended on the number of CPUs you had."
"You should be aware how much the monthly costs are to use, what the initial costs for hardware are, and what the options to expand are, if needed."
"The cost of Unitrends definitely draws you in. The licensing is all included in the appliance, which is a great incentive."
"Pricing model constantly changes."
"I would rate the solution's pricing a four out of ten. The licensing is yearly and it depends on the customers."
"Talk with the sales guys. They can work with you on the best package."
"When we renew the Unitrends maintenance contract and update it to the latest version, the cost would be $5,000 per year. There are no hidden costs. They've been transparent with the costs."
"It costs more to license support for this solution, compared to others."
"The product's price is high."
"The product is expensive and comes with a yearly license."
"On a scale of one to ten, where one is a high price and ten is a low price, I rate the pricing a nine."
"Appliances do not come cheaply."
"I rate the solution's pricing a nine out of ten."
"The licensing costs are approximately 150,00 Saudi Riyals."
"This solution is expensive."
