IP address management improves network efficiency but licensing cost could decrease
We are using SolarWinds for NPM and NCM, and we use IP address management for IP address monitoring. It helps us track which IP address is live and which is not. It also provides DHCP reservation and allows us to declare IP addresses for our integration. We have been using it for IP address…

Cloud storage with no hardware needed and great comprehensive reports
The software is cloud-based, so I do not need to store any data locally. It is a fully software-based solution, eliminating the need for investment in hardware. We have the capability to create reports as needed. It is good software to use, as there were no incidents where I needed to contact technical support. Additionally, it is free software.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature is the availability of end devices."
"IPAM is used for IP address reservation and tracking, helping us easily identify live IP addresses."
"The initial setup is very straightforward and it is easy to add nodes."
"It lets us know whether devices are getting out of date and tracked warranties. Spiceworks also gave me visibility in terms of what software was installed on each device and its status."
"Spiceworks is a great, free product, and any IT department that doesn't have a solid help-desk/knowledge-base solution would be amiss not to implement it."
"SpiceWorks is an easy to install and maintain inventory and help desk system for SMBs and it's free!"
"The software is cloud-based, so I do not need to store any data locally."
"The documentation is also very helpful in figuring out the product."
"The price, as it's free."
"Spiceworks is a system that I recommend for both inventory and helpdesk, although it is good in its entirety."
"It's easy to understand."

Cons

"The solution does not include enough features and has some performance issues."
"The licensing cost is high compared to open source tools."
"The stability is lacking; we have to restart the software about one or two times a week."
"Having an integrated asset management tool, where I can plug in things that are offline, would be good."
"It's got great potential, but too many security and resource issues."
"I would like to see more information when drilling down into access permissions, assignments management, or tagging. When I click a note or a device, I should be able to see more details about the router and modem. For example, I want to see the version, downtime, availability, latency, etc. I should have easy access to everything about our assets at a glance."
"Attachment handling within a ticket could be improved; only one item can be attached at a time unless email is used."
"I think troubleshooting errors became the most frustrating part since it is free; you can’t complain."
"Spiceworks could improve the upgrade procedure. It regularly fails and we have to use the workaround to get a new version installed."
"The issue that we had, that caused us to stop using Spiceworks, was that it didn’t seem designed for a help desk of our scale, and we're a company with over 2500 employees."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is a bit expensive because the annual license does not include new features that are priced as add-ons."
"It's free."
"Seeing that it is a low-cost solution, I would advise you to go ahead with Spiceworks and experiment with it to see if you can get things working properly, especially if you currently don't have any existing service desk software in place."
"The product is free! Get it now."
"The tool is cheap."
"It might be about $300 annually for a bigger company. If you pay annually, it's better and cheaper."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want…
