Automated patching has transformed risk-based remediation and now optimizes security workflows
I can highlight two areas for improvement. The first is better reporting flexibility and dashboard customization. Qualys VMDR has a great dashboard that I can customize, but Qualys Patch Management does not have a specific dashboard associated only with patch management and patch compliance. The customization could be improved significantly. The second area is third-party application coverage. Qualys Patch Management works very effectively when patching servers, internal servers, Windows, iOS, or Linux servers. However, when doing application security with third-party applications that require patches, it sometimes fails to complete the patch. The deployment issue with third-party applications needs enhancement, as even with integration, Qualys Patch Management is not able to deploy patches for some third-party applications. These are the two main points I can highlight for improvement.

Can automate updates and manage software licenses more effectively
Our team uses the SanerNow CyberHygiene Platform for threat detection, focusing on features like vulnerabilities and asset exposure. The asset exposure feature is packaged with software licenses and machines. We get the latest updates and patches for Windows workstations and applications for remediation. We can automate these updates, which greatly improves our previous manual and scripting-based tools. Before, we struggled with setting policies and making changes to workstations. Now, we can automate updates and manage software licenses more effectively. We monitor who's using various licenses like Office, CAD, Visio, and Lumion.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I think the TruRisk system and the TruRisk automation are great."
"Qualys Patch Management offers valuable features like scheduling and on-demand patching, allowing us to conveniently push patches to our servers at designated times."
"Qualys Patch Management leverages vulnerability feeds from the VMDR module, allowing us to identify vulnerabilities missing Qualys patches."
"Qualys Patch Management gives me a single source of truth for assets and vulnerabilities that need to be assessed, prioritized, and remediated."
"Qualys Patch Management excels with its automated patch scheduling and retrieval."
"Overall, I would rate Qualys Patch Management a ten out of ten for everything."
"I've saved hundreds of hours of manual work for the IT operation teams by automating the deployment of critical patches, and I've reduced our real business exposure to ransomware and exploits."
"Since we onboarded into Qualys Patch Management's ZSM portal with automation, everyone can go and schedule work and trigger it and forget it, and since then it has been very helpful for us to get remediation done in time."
"Our team uses the SanerNow CyberHygiene Platform for threat detection, focusing on features like vulnerabilities and asset exposure. The asset exposure feature is packaged with software licenses and machines. We get the latest updates and patches for Windows workstations and applications for remediation. We can automate these updates, which greatly improves our previous manual and scripting-based tools."
"Although it is, in fact, a complete vulnerability management solution, the most valuable feature is the patch management functionality. Most of our customers give preference to this tool over other tools when it comes to patch management."

Cons

"For those patches that I have to download for Patch Management, I would prefer if I could upload them to a repository instead of having to download them every time."
"A patch contract is a bundle of patches that we are going to roll out. I would like to reference those patches from separate jobs. They explained at a conference that it cannot be done, but that is my main complaint. I wish that the whole schema was a little bit clearer because there is a little bit of cloudiness around it."
"Qualys could improve its randomized download feature and provide more detailed information about patch failures, including the reason for failure."
"To be improved or enhanced in Qualys Patch Management, some patches are not automatically updated."
"Downloading extensive vulnerability reports, especially those with millions of entries, is time-consuming. To improve efficiency, Qualys should implement faster download speeds and offer reports in Excel format in addition to the current CSV option."
"I find the stability of Qualys Patch Management to be inconsistent; sometimes it works fine, while other times when I try to show a colleague something quickly, it takes considerable time to respond."
"While Qualys Patch Management is a powerful tool, there are areas for improvement, such as enhancing patch-to-asset accuracy, improving deployment feedback and error visibility, optimizing bandwidth and performance, enhancing reporting customization and dashboards, expanding application coverage, and ensuring deeper integration with ITSM or other tools."
"The turnaround for support is a bit slow, especially when trying to deploy patches that are not accepted by certain devices, leading to delays in addressing urgent customer issues."
"SanerNow has good integration with the more well known ITSM tools, but at the same time there are many other ITSM (IT Service Management) tools available in the market, including local tools here in India, and I'm not sure how SanerNow plans to integrate with them all out of the box."
"SanerNow CyberHygiene Platform needs to incorporate more documentation."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Qualys Patch Management's pricing could be more competitive, as it presents a significant obstacle for many companies who find it unaffordable."
"Qualys Patch Management is a cost-effective solution for managing our 43,000-plus assets."
"The pricing is fair and within our budget."
"The pricing is reasonable and competitive. We get many more features at the same price compared to other solutions such as Microsoft SCCM. It is worth the money considering the services and features it has. Their support team is also awesome."
"Its price is competitive in the market. Compared to other solutions like Rapid7, Qualys offers a favorable price point and robust features."
"Qualys Patch Management comes as part of a bundled package with several modules, making it a cost-effective deal for us."
"Qualys Patch Management is expensive."
"While the cost of Qualys Patch Management is slightly high compared to alternative tools, it is not excessively expensive."
"As with several other solutions such as Microsoft MECM and SCCM, the licensing for SanerNow involves per-device pricing for each kind of product or service on offer."
"The pricing is reasonable - we paid about 2.5 million for 3,500 nodes."
