Email defenses have reduced phishing incidents and protect sensitive data across our enterprise
As things are evolving and threats develop in unpredictable ways, Proofpoint must adopt AI solutions and agentic solutions more aggressively and provide them to customers as part of service offerings. Inbuilt AI solutions would add more value and make Proofpoint a more premium choice for customers. With the help of AI solutions, agentic AI, and generative AI capabilities, the product would be more efficient than it currently is. Filtering false positives is highly challenging because it is impossible for humans to identify which emails are genuine and which are spam. Proofpoint should focus more on this area with back-end agents or other tools. Proofpoint should decide which emails are genuine and which are spam so it is not a challenge for end users. When receiving an email, end users should not have to determine whether to respond or not. Proofpoint should not release such spam emails and should strictly block such spam and spoof emails based on connection IPs. Currently, false positives occur in the product, and while this occurs in every product, it is an area where Proofpoint can focus on improving and reducing false positives. One email is enough for an end user to be deceived and lose money, so addressing this area is critical.

Easy to install and secures users against URL relay attacks, spam, and malicious attachments
The frequency in which this solution receives technical updates should be improved. If they are to be rated as the number one email appliance then they should also be the first to receive updates. It should happen across all of the customers, immeidately. In the next release of this solution, I would like to see more user awareness, such as information about phishing email attacks that have been prevented. The baselining and reporting is better with some of the competing solutions.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Proofpoint Email Protection has positively impacted my organization by advancing our email security posture."
"Proofpoint Email Protection is a good product, and its most beneficial feature is the Threat Response Auto-Pull. I also like that it's an integrated email security solution."
"In terms of detection of spam, malware, and virus, the detection is 99.9% accurate."
"Out of these three, no other email gateway can be compared with Proofpoint Email Protection."
"Its main defense is to stop malicious emails from coming through. There is a sandbox environment where you can open malicious or suspicious emails to make sure that they're not malicious, instead of taking the risk of having your employees do it. This is definitely something that everybody needs nowadays, especially with the rise in cyber attacks."
"The solution is very user-friendly."
"Proofpoint Email Protection is a great security tool that is not only proactive but also reactive on a case-to-case basis and provides all the mature tools that can be utilized for the first layer and second layer message defense."
"Proofpoint Email Protection has positively impacted my organization by reducing the number of cyber email attacks we are receiving compared to the past."
"The solution is scalable; we have about 400 users on it right now."
"Previous issues were resolved as soon as we deployed the solution."
"Using this solution, they are no longer able to manipulate emails."
"The most valuable feature is the URL relay protection because it protects users from phishing attacks."
"This is a stable, scalable product that provides a reliable email protection layer."
"The filtering aspect is the solution's most valuable feature."
"Email encryption, because it fulfills our business needs."
"Sophos Email Appliance provides a layer of security that effectively defends against malicious attacks that arrive via email."

Cons

"If I had to pick one minor thing I would like to see improved in Proofpoint Email Protection, it would be integration with AutoTask or ConnectWise because I saw a few tickets where, when there is a notification on Proofpoint Email Protection, it takes a few minutes to maybe an hour to generate a ticket with ConnectWise and AutoTask."
"Proofpoint Email Protection is an expensive solution."
"The solution's server console and cluster dashboard have been the same for four years so need to be upgraded."
"You only receive one model in Proofpoint Email Protection and the other ones you have to purchase at a high price. There should be more available with the solution and additional models should be less expensive."
"Phishing detection could improve further to match some of the capabilities offered by competitors."
"Proofpoint Email Protection has a new approach to email security with its API feature. Currently, it only works with Office 365. In the future, it would be beneficial if it also works with Gmail, as Check Point is currently the only brand that has API email security for Gmail. It would be beneficial if Proofpoint Email Protection could add this integration, they would be more competitive with other vendors."
"Proofpoint Email Protection needs to enhance its capabilities for AI-related threats as it is primarily a rule-based solution."
"Proofpoint has a lot of false alarms. Even their mail flow rules are not the best thing."
"There are a few issues with integration that need to be addressed; this would help make deployment easier for new users."
"Occasionally the solution doesn't catch spam mail."
"Reporting could have more options for users to customize desired results."
"More things need to be integrated into this device, like DLP, so we can have a complete solution in one box."
"It may be possible for them to improve on the options in reporting."
"In the advanced version, you have DLP, Data Loss Prevention, but when you buy the standard version, you don't have it."
"There aren't enough advanced settings. They should offer more advanced options."
"The baselining and reporting is better with some of the competing solutions."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The licensing cost of Proofpoint Email Protection is a lot higher than other solutions, such as Barracuda."
"In general, the pricing is competitive."
"The solution is expensive."
"Pricing has recently been increased and the cost is a downside"
"I rate the price of Proofpoint Email Protection a four out of five."
"We sell annual licenses for this solution."
"Customers pay around $90,000 yearly for a 1,000-user organization, with the subscription license being the main expense, apart from implementation fees."
"The solution uses a licensing model that is reasonable compared to other products."
"Negotiate as much as you can."
