PRTG Network Monitor can be improved because the dashboard themes feel outdated. It should be updated to a newer version for the new Gen Z customers. The notification sound options are limited unless customized. Restarting probes after Windows updates is necessary, and there should be some kind of automatic restart. The initial auto-discovery added too many unnecessary sensors, so auto-discovery should only take the necessary sensors into consideration.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The live packet capture feature enables quicker troubleshooting and better network monitoring."
"Network quality monitoring of multicast TV channels and other network monitorings."
"PRTG Network Monitor is user-friendly and takes just one click to install the solution in Windows."
"PRTG gives us true visibility of the downtime of particular circuit functions, so if a circuit is up but not routing traffic, I will know with this tool and can write a customized script for a sensor to detect specific things."
"It is a user-friendly solution."
"The reporting module is easy to configure."
"One of the valuable features is the diversity of metrics available to us to monitor. It's all there, it's all in the box. It's all made very easy, by virtue of it being pre-configured."
"From my somewhat more high-level view, the summary dashboards are excellent, they give me what I need, and having spoken to the operations guys, it gives them everything they need."
"We use the remote probes a lot for our branch offices. Instead of deploying the full instance of PRTG, we'll put a remote probe out there. This simplifies the whole deployment for us."
"The alerting is the most valuable feature. I also like the iPhone app. I get alerts in an email on the iPhone app."

Cons

"The web interface is ok, but I would like to see if it was possible to group jobs better and to create our own dashboards."
"I am not sure the solution is giving me all the needed feedback that we need."
"We would like more cloud native sensors for AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, etc. A lot of businesses are moving in that direction, so having something where we can pull performance stats out of these cloud services would be great for us."
"The user interface could be more modern as it is quite dated. PRTG Network Monitor can sometimes be too detailed and cluttered at the beginning, making it heavy to use."
"The operations dashboard is only available in PRTG's enterprise version, but I wish it could be accessed in the standard licensing. It would also be nice if PRTG had templates for dashboard monitoring, software monitoring, etc. It can help me set up a dashboard because now we don't have a template from PRTG, so we need to create one from scratch."
"The technical support needs some improvement. The response time is slow, we normally get a response the next business day for urgent issues which is long time."
"Although the reporting module is functional, I feel it is a bit clunky compared to the rest of the interface, and it would benefit from being polished for future use."
"Technical support is an area with concerns in PRTG Network Monitor, where improvements are required."
"I would like a more straightforward ability to create dashboards and maps. The network maps should be a bit more flexibility in the GUI to do what we need to do."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"I rate the price of PRTG Network Monitor an eight on a scale of one to ten, where one is a high price, and ten is a low price."
"PRTG Network Monitor is very expensive."
"We've got 1,000 nodes and I believe it's a few hundred quid a month."
"The ability to use the base version with 100 free sensors is great. The cost on other packages can be very reasonable."
"PRTG is now available as PRTG Enterprise Monitor, and the price varies depending on the total number of sensors the customer buys"
"We have unlimited devices and sensors, and it is a bit pricey, but we do have unlimited sensors. With all things considered the price is fine, related to the solution itself. PRTG Network Monitor is good value for money."
"We have an unlimited license for this solution."
"Licenses are very expensive, so I would like to see cheaper licensing."
