Has supported long-term data protection and backup while requiring better part availability and pricing options
For monitoring purposes, we normally use flash access storage exclusively. We utilize a hybrid system because we need performance, combining NL-SAS for the volume and SAS flash to use as a fast cache system that provides more IOPS. We normally implement RAID 10, which we prefer over RAID 6's n plus 2 combinations. We utilize it for data redundancy, even with write intensity on. Regarding the unified storage architecture for NetApp FAS Series, we normally opt for exclusivity unless budget constraints exist. Our IOPS are very high, reaching somewhere about 50k to 150k or 1.150k. The high performance ensures minimal latency. An advantage we've seen with NetApp FAS Series is that snapshots provide very rapid backup and fast recovery. We basically use snapshots for data protection as first-level protection, with deduplication between the two storages serving as second-level protection.

Has supported continuous broadcasting with reliable performance and consistent operations
They can make more solutions for cloud integration in NetApp Private Storage. It should be easier to use the cloud S3 integration, maybe from a NetApp interface, where users can choose the type of storage before sending to S3. I would like to see more audit and performance logs via cloud integrations and ONTAP. Without the need for separate software.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The replication feature is noteworthy because it's faster than most and it uses little bandwidth. Then there's the friendly interface that the equipment offers. With this interface, it is very easy to manage."
"In NetApp FAS Series, I appreciate the visibility."
"The solution is very stable and reliable"
"The best feature is its ONTAP product line for Ransomware protection. It also has features for file storage and block storage. The solution is stable. We've had no issues with it. The tool is scalable and meets our requirements. The technical support and the supporting partner are great. The initial setup is straightforward. It is very easy to maintain the product. The feature set is excellent. I recommend the solution."
"Compression of the backup Oracle by RMAN on NFS saves space 5:1."
"It changed the way we do Disaster Recovery (DR) around NetApp replication."
"Adaptive balancing is a valuable feature."
"The input and output per second performance are satisfactory."
"The solution is stable."
"As opposed to cloud, we have full control over security, use, who uses it. We own a number of different companies, so we can partition however we want."
"It gave us a platform which could clearly arrange all our files and volumes."
"The solution scales well."
"For recording and stability, NetApp Private Storage is the best."
"The most valuable feature of NetApp Private Storage is out-of-the-box integration with the SAN switches. They are much easier compared to Dell solutions. Additionally, the connector that comes with the solution that allows connection back to the Cisco SAN switches is very good. In Dell, I would need to use an FCIP or CIP port that is required."
"Very stable and very scalable."
"NetApp has its own dedicated operating system, so it will not be affected by any wireless piggybacking or malware. That's the beauty of NetApp's operating system."

Cons

"The solution's configuration is not flexible."
"We would like to have further integration with some backup products. They have some of them already, but there could be more."
"Needs to improve the adaptive storage quality of service."
"There was a bug when creating new custom roles that automatically gave volume deletion permission, which was a problem, but they finally fixed it."
"NetApp could improve costs while making the solution more straightforward to use and deploy."
"Replication should ideally be part of the ONTAP base bundle."
"The user interface could be improved."
"Cluster mode needs to be more ubiquitous."
"I would like to see the GUI management simplified in the next release."
"The solution could improve by having better support experts. For example, they do not have clear instructions on configuration."
"NetApp Private Storage is still integrated into the ISCSI connectivity and the FC protocol. I would recommend them to migrate to the FCIP because the SAN switches are moving further to an FCIP, and are scaling out of the ISCSI connectivity. Sooner or later, that will be an issue for NetApp Private Storage. An NFCIP should be available to them moving three years down the line."
"I would like to have the Active-Active feature. Some competitors already have it. I would like NetApp to add it to stay competitive."
"There is room for improvement in the support. It has been a problem for our team."
"The hardware does not last as long as it could with new software."
"It is not the fastest storage solution."
"The users find the new version's GUI complicated to use."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is a moderately low-priced platform."
"The process for going to cluster mode is expensive."
"The pricing of NetApp FAS Series is reasonable for its performance."
"it’s not an inexpensive solution and it may not be for the cost-sensitive customer."
"I don't recall the price, but in general, pricing can always be better."
"It is a one-time license charge for NetApp FAS Series to run and we pay annually for upgrades and support."
"I would rate the pricing a seven out of ten, with ten being expensive. We pay a one-time purchase price."
"The price, compared to competitors, is quite high."
"The price of NetApp Private Storage is similar to other solutions. There is typically an annual license required for this solution."
"The price could be lower."
"In general, I am pleased with the pricing, though it is a little high."
"NetApp Private Storage is cheaper here in India compared to other solutions, such as Dell."
"It is an expensive solution."
"The product is costly."
"We negotiate whatever deal we can get on the type of storage that it is, but it's totally under our control,."
