Reliable, fulfils compliance requirements, and enables to manage data backups easily
I use the solution for backup and recovery Our systems have become more stable and scalable after using NetApp AltaVault. The dashboard is useful for managing data backups. The deduplication technology helps me take offline backups efficiently. The workload on the end team has been reduced. It…

A mature backup solution, with many features, and great support
Veritas NetBackup is the first line of defense when disaster strikes. Before performing disaster recovery, we must have a good backup of our image that is also protected from ransomware. This way, we have a golden image that is resilient to ransomware attacks. We saw the benefits of Veritas NetBackup within the first three months.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The flexibility. Being able to virtualize it, port it wherever I like, test my backups, test my DR capabilities whenever I like without impacting anybody."
"It's pretty simple. Once you set it, it goes; and then the idea of being able to get it to the cloud very quickly. It's kind of a set-it-forget-it."
"The dashboard is useful for managing data backups."
"The solution can be used for all Office 365 applications."
"You can store backups for a while."
"The solution is very easy to use and it offers great support."
"Most importantly is having that island into that datacenter, and being able to address things in the same console. Thus, it is irrelevant where it's stored."
"The most valuable feature is the portability of large archived data. You're able to put things on large on-prem, low-cost storage and then augment that with even lower cost storage in the cloud."
"The backup and restore features work very well."
"I think this is the best backup solution that we have. It is very good for the infrastructure."
"The most valuable feature is its stability."
"Best feature is its three-tier backup."
"I like NetBackup's anomaly detection and Linux storage features."
"The product is stable and reliable."
"It provides us with the versatility to back up everything we require which eliminates the need for a secondary backup solution."
"The reliability is valuable, especially for the appliance solution."

Cons

"I really want to partner it with the SnapCenter. We haven't implemented that yet. We're upgrading all of our stuff to the ONTAP 9, which you had to have."
"The solution needs faster indexing."
"The product must provide multi-gate connectivity."
"The initial setup phase of the tool was difficult."
"I would like to see more web support."
"It would be nice if the solution was more complete. Many customers are looking for a single solution or silo that they can manage everything from. It would be nice, instead of having different products, if everything a client needed was in one solution."
"NetApp's own competing products complicate things."
"There are some bits it could do better. With tighter integration maybe with Veeam, or something like that, it'd be really good."
"They need to improve their support. In the beginning, their engineers had trouble understanding the issue we were presenting. It took a lot of conversations for them to start troubleshooting the problem."
"It was very complicated, and it required a lot of work in terms of management. We have moved to Rubrik. One of the reasons for getting rid of Veritas NetBackup was the fact that at one point, we had the support staff with 12 to 15 people to manage Veritas NetBackup, whereas, with Rubrik, I'm the only one managing Rubrik. There is one more person who works with me mostly due to the fact that in case I'm not around, someone else knows what to do, but I'm the only one who is a full-time manager of Rubrik. The complexity of Veritas required a large staff to manage it. We had daily issues that had to be looked into and resolved. A lot of these issues revolved around Veritas' handling of VMware, which is why first we moved VMware off Veritas. After we did that, we were also able to reduce our staff count. Their licensing is a disaster. It is extremely complicated. In most cases, Veritas themselves can't understand their own licensing."
"The solution's technical support process should be improved."
"DDBoost."
"The SQL Server backup features are not up to date."
"The reporting of the backups could be better."
"There may be a learning curve."
"There have been issues with performance and some features."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's quite cost-effective."
"In one use case, and we have several, to run for a particular customer, the price is about $375,000 a year."
"The price is a bit high."
"The pricing is not too bad, but could be a little better."
"You could compare it to a Dell EMC or ECS, and I think it's probably a little less costly than that. Within the marketplace, it's a medium cost."
"There is a need to make yearly payments towards the licensing costs attached to the solution, which comes to around 3,000 USD."
"It is a rather expensive program."
"Veritas NetBackup is more expensive than Cohesity and Rubrik, but it is comparable in price to Commvault, IBM, and Dell."
"Price-wise, most of the backup products are similarly priced, and NetBackup is the same."
"This is an affordable solution"
"It is reasonably priced."
"Our license is capacity-based."
"The solution is expensive."
"The licensing fees are expensive."
"There is a license required for this solution and it is priced based upon the data used."
