Improves threat visibility and response while reducing manual tasks and training users against phishing
I appreciate the attack simulation feature whereby I get to train users and educate them on how to identify phishing emails and spam emails, as well as the anti-spam protection. It gives me visibility into my threat environment and threat landscape to ensure that I am one step ahead of any likelihood of threats within my environment. I get to detect it and respond, so the threat intelligence is very effective. Microsoft security solutions save my time. It saves money because once I protect my environment, I don't lose money. It has decreased my detection time and my time to respond.

The tool has had some scalability issues, but now that it's offered as a cloud service, it's easier to manage. However, setting it up isn't as straightforward as it used to be, and there may be limitations with the support provided during setup and testing. Also, the quality of support has declined in the past year.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The initial setup was easy."
"Microsoft Defender for Office 365 helps people to work remotely. It is a secure solution. We don't need to use our company's computers or get VPN connections to the networks. I can control how they share screens and what they send to the devices. It keeps our organizations confidential and sensitive information safe."
"The technical support is good and quick to resolve issues."
"The basic features are okay and I'm satisfied with the Defender."
"Microsoft Defender has a feature to protect each and every attachment. Even if it's an encrypted attachment, it will check for any potential threats."
"Does a thorough job of examining email and URLs for malicious content."
"Defender helps us prioritize threats across our organization."
"The product's scalability is good."
"The tool streamlines data discovery processes for compliance by setting up a gateway to copy every incoming and outgoing email to the archive independently of the mailbox. This ensures that even if a user deletes their mailbox, the emails are still available in the archive, making it a compliant solution for monitoring all incoming and outgoing emails. Additionally, it offers the ability to place legal holds on important emails."
"Everything is in one console, including the security and managing the data there, such as mailboxes, email, et cetera - everything."
"The initial setup is pretty straightforward."

Cons

"Sometimes, phishing emails manage to pass through the filter, so the system needs to enhance its phishing email detection capabilities."
"There's room for improvement regarding the time frame for retrieving emails."
"The inbuilt analysis of false positives can be faster. It's not slow, but it can be faster."
"The cost of Security Copilot is up there right now, and I think it needs to come down for more people to adopt."
"One area for improvement is integration. For example, when it comes to external SaaS platforms, we were not able to get a lot of information on integrations with such apps for security and authentication."
"To improve Microsoft Defender for Office 365, it would be nice to have more accessibility for users to see on their end what they are doing that could cause a threat."
"We need a separate license and we don't know how to get the license that is required."
"Configuring the default strategies and policies in Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps generates a lot of noise and false positives."
"Technical support could be better."
"The tool has had some scalability issues, but now that it's offered as a cloud service, it's easier to manage. However, setting it up isn't as straightforward as it used to be, and there may be limitations with the support provided during setup and testing. Also, the quality of support has declined in the past year."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The license is expensive because the cost is based on the number of users."
"The solution could be better by simplifying the business model of their licensing. It was hard to figure out how to get the licensing done for the environment, initially."
"The pricing has become expensive."
"For licensing, it's usually a yearly package for customers who are subscribed to Office 365, but they can also pay on a monthly basis."
"It's a user-base subscription."
"Microsoft Defender for Office 365 comes with Microsoft Windows. It is free with the operating system."
"Microsoft Defender is expensive. I typically recommend it only if clients have the budget. Otherwise, I would suggest an alternative."
"While Microsoft Defender for Office 365 necessitates pricier E3 or E5 subscriptions, the extensive functionality offered by these licenses across various Microsoft products justifies the investment."
"The tool is expensive, and I rate its price as eight out of ten. It might not be very expensive. However, comparing it with something that's free or already included in the price is challenging, like the Office 365 archive mailbox. Previously, this was part of the subscription price. Now, it's an additional cost, typically covered by departments like legal or compliance rather than IT."
