Active data protection has ensured high availability and supports seamless reporting workloads
In my opinion, Active Data Guard is the most valuable feature. We use the secondary side for reporting purposes, which reduces the load on the primary side. Oracle Data Guard includes functions such as automatic failover, but we use manual managed failover. After some months, we converted our primary to secondary and secondary to primary. Oracle Data Guard is effective in minimizing data loss and provides a good solution for that. The main benefits of Oracle Data Guard include minimizing data loss during a production failure. It is used for maximum availability when paired with Oracle RAC, so if any disruption occurs, we have an alternative Data Guard to convert our load to the disaster recovery site. Oracle Data Guard maintains a high level of data integrity by using archive logs. When a transaction happens, redo logs create archive logs, which are then applied on the disaster recovery side, ensuring that both databases are synchronized.

Pros

"The most valuable feature for me is the policy management capabilities"
"The flexible ways you can get to the data and the options that it gives you for backing up your valuable data are what make its offsite storage so valuable."
"You can see how the logs are applied, check the apply time, and how far behind the standby is at any given time."
"This is one of the most stable products to support critical DR sites."
"The solution is quite stable, as we haven't experienced any bugs, glitches, or crashes, and we find it to be quite reliable."
"Data Guard adds an extra layer of a high-availability platform, minimizing application outages when something goes wrong with the primary database and allowing us to resume activities while losing minimal time."
"One of the most valuable features is real-time replication. The version we're using is reliable and easy to deploy."
"The solution has been stable so far."
"Developers can test their code thoroughly before installing it into production and know precisely how it will perform."
"It is a top-notch product, super stable, making it our go-to for internal operations."

Cons

"Basically, the only thing I do not like about it, it was keyed off Lotus Notes."
"I would like to see more integration with different platforms."
"Sometimes, the technical support team takes time to respond."
"Oracle is not easy to implement, and you cannot find clear documentation on the internet or, unfortunately, on the Oracle website."
"I would like to see better failover."
"The deployment cost is expensive."
"Oracle could be improved by the ability to manage it on the cloud."
"The only difficult part is the cost factor, licensing. Another area of improvement is support."
"A significant improvement for Oracle Data Guard would be enabling the disaster recovery site to handle read and write operations, not just data storage."
"They may need to include the monitoring and the alerting part in Data Guard."
