We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution has a good optimization feature.""The most valuable features are the cluster utilization reports and the resource capacity planning. We can simulate how much capacity we can add to the current resources. The individual DM reports and VM-facing recommendations report are also helpful.""The tool provides the ability to look at the consumption utilization over a period of time and determine if we need to change that resource allocation based on the actual workload consumption, as opposed to how IT has configured it. Therefore, we have come to realize that a lot of our workloads are overprovisioned, and we are spending more money in the public cloud than we need to.""Turbonomic helps us right-size virtual machines to utilize the available infrastructure components available and suggest where resources should exist. We also use the predictive tool to forecast what will happen when we add additional compute-demanding virtual machines or something to the environment. It shows us how that would impact existing resources. All of that frees up time that would otherwise be spent on manual calculation.""The notifications saying, "This is a corrective action," even though some of them can be automated, are always welcome to see. They summarize your entire infrastructure and how you can better utilize it. That is the biggest feature.""I like Turbonomic's built-in reporting. It provides a ton of information out of the box, so I don't have to build panels for the monthly summaries and other reports I need to present to management. We get better performance and bottleneck reporting from this than we do from our older EMC software.""Using this product helps us to reduce performance risk because it shows us where resources are needed but not yet allocated.""I like the analytics that help us optimize compatibility. Whereas Azure Advisor tells us what we have to do, Turbonomic has automation which actually does those things. That means we don't have to be present to get them done and simplifies our IT engineers' jobs."

"ServiceNow IT Operations Management is a stable product.""The way this solution has helped us is that it improved our communication.""Provides everything in one solution.""The most valuable feature of ServiceNow IT Operations Management is the user interface.""I like the tool's discovery feature.""The solution is very capable and user friendly.""I like the tool's CMBD connection with Discovery. The solution is also flexible.""It's easy to set up."

Cons
"The reporting needs to be improved. It's important for us to know and be able to look back on what happened and why certain decisions were made, and we want to use a custom report for this.""Turbonomic doesn't do storage placement how I would prefer. We use multiple shared storage volumes on VMware, so I don't have one big disk. I have lots of disks that I can place VMs on, and that consumes IOPS from the disk subsystem. We were getting recommendations to provision a new volume.""Recovering resources when they're not needed is not as optimized as it could be.""Additional interfaces would be helpful.""There is an opportunity for improvement with some of Turbonomic's permissions internally for role-based access control. We would like the ability to come up with some customized permissions or scope permissions a bit differently than the product provides.""We're still evaluating the solution, so I don't know enough about what I don't know. They've done a lot over the years. I used Turbonomics six or seven years ago before IBM bought them. They've matured a lot since then.""If they would educate their customers to understand the latest updates, that would help customers... Also, there are a lot of features that are not available in Turbonomic. For example, PaaS component optimization and automation are still in the development phase.""The management interface seems to be designed for high-resolution screens. Somebody with a smaller-resolution screen might not like the web interface. I run a 4K monitor on it, so everything fits on the screen. With a lower resolution like 1080, you need to scroll a lot. Everything is in smaller windows. It doesn't seem to be designed for smaller screens."

"ServiceNow could be more prescriptive on how customers can leverage some of the benefits.""The initial setup phase was hard and could be made easier.""The most complaints we have received from our clients are the solution's discovery aspect. I've heard a few concerns from the customers where we have to integrate with a third-party tool to make a full-fledged discovery along with ServiceNow. ServiceNow alone does not do the total capacity of the discovery. The discovery portion of ServiceNow IT Operations Management is not in-depth as what the customers are looking for. The information that it gathers from the assets is a little more limited than what other tools provide.""ServiceNow IT Operations Management could be improved by providing more user customization options.""The tool can be improved by including more detailed information to assist new users.""There is a slower learning curve associated with the tool's scripting part. It is also not cheap.""The out-of-the-box reporting feature is not as user friendly as other tools.""There is room for improvement in the stability of ServiceNow."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The pricing is in line with the other solutions that we have. It's not a bargain software, nor is it overly expensive."
  • "I don't know the current prices, but I like how the licensing is based on the number of instances instead of sockets, clusters, or cores. We have some VMs that are so heavy I can only fit four on one server. It's not cost-effective if we have to pay more for those. When I move around a VM SQL box with 30 cores and a half-terabyte of RAM, I'm not paying for an entire socket and cores where people assume you have at least 10 or 20 VMs on that socket for that pricing."
  • "In the last year, Turbonomic has reduced our cloud costs by $94,000."
  • "I consider the pricing to be high."
  • "Everybody tells me the pricing is high. But the ROIs are great."

  • "There are additional costs, you have to pay more for everything."
  • "The price of ServiceNow IT Operations Management is expensive."
  • "It is expensive. It is around 10 Euros per server per month."
  • "This solution offers good value but comes at a very high premium. Pricing could be reduced by 10 to 20%."
  • "The solution offers yearly licenses and a subscription model for add-on features."
  • "My customers pay for the ServiceNow IT Operations Management license annually. I'd rate the pricing based on value. ServiceNow IT Operations Management is a premium product as it has better features than competitors."
  • "While not entirely sure, I believe the solution costs at least a million dollars annually."
  • "ServiceNow IT Operations Management is a costly solution. I'd rate the price at ten, on a scale from one to ten with one being the lowest and ten being the highest price. Some clients do have a problem with the price, but most find that the solution is worth the cost."
