Has improved data visibility and streamlined compliance reporting across multiple database platforms
The best feature is how many databases we can protect with one solution because it has compatibility with different databases, including Oracle, SQL, and DB2. The data activity monitoring feature is very good because we can check the PDS and have the information for that. We can schedule the reporting and receive it by email, which provides very important information for different areas of the company. We don't need to have a seat and a case or access to the portal, we just receive the report. The user-friendly interface is very good.

Centralized data controls have protected sensitive banking workloads and support strict SLA targets
The implementation of Oracle Database Vault can be simple, but if you want to provide DB services for more complex applications, it gets complex. You can start with a simple deployment, but if you aim for real volumes, response times, and work with many applications, the deployment can be quite complex. It really depends. The time frame for deployment of Oracle Database Vault depends on various factors, and it can vary significantly for different solutions and complexities, making it impossible to give a specific number. In an environment, implementation could take as little as two weeks, and I do not think it can be more than that—the maximum, I think.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's made database monitoring more visible to the business, creating more conversations about how we should do it better."
"One of the most valuable features is the accelerator. It has a predefined report for PCI SOX compliance and other compliances."
"It's one of the first to encrypt DB2 databases."
"I think IMB's technical support is good."
"We acquired Guardium to encrypt certain databases to meet a customer requirement and it has been performing to spec."
"What I like about IBM Guardium Data Protection is that some of its features were deployed by collectors during the installation phase. The solution has collector and aggregator features, license installation, and even server patches that you won't find in other security providers. I like the collector-aggregator capabilities of IBM Guardium Data Protection where you install each component on separate servers, then on the aggregator, you collect all the logs on a central server or central console."
"The product has proven to be flexible"
"It has been very difficult to analyze all the network traffic with something else. Guardium provides that feature, it's heuristic. So we have rule-based algorithms in place to take care of that."
"I use Oracle Database Vault mainly for encryption at transit; it encrypts data traveling across the network, and I have also used it for backup purposes."
"The product is fairly easy to implement."
"Oracle Database Vault is a robust, high-quality DBMS capable of providing solutions for database management for many different application systems."
"The product is easy to use and provides good performance."
"Oracle Database Vault has been valuable for database security in maritime companies and ports."
"Oracle Database is one of the most reliable structured databases, making it highly trustworthy."
"It encrypts data traveling across the network."
"I haven’t seen any other database perform as well as Oracle."

Cons

"It will not go as fast as you want. "
"The documentation could be better."
"Guardium Data Protection is far better in terms of external integration. But in terms of firewall features, like when you're blocking activities, it's as if Oracle AVDF simply has superior features. This is just from third-party observations, but the users of Oracle AVDF are saying that when it comes to the firewall and protection functionality, they're much more inclined to AVDF."
"It was difficult implementing it, configuring it, getting it up and running and in production. However, since then, I believe it has stabilized."
"Technical support is unsatisfactory."
"I would like to see streamlining of some of the agent features, some of the patches; make it a little bit more user-friendly on the documentation."
"Initially it did not have support external applications like, say, Tableau, ServiceNow, Remedy, and the like. They have started growing into it, but I would like to have more and more integration with outside applications."
"They could enable the out-of-the-box feature to track application user activity."
"The integration aspect could be improved through additional APIs to integrate with various SAML protocols and Active Directory protocols, which would be more helpful."
"Oracle's technical support could be improved."
"The product's cost could be better."
"I have over thirty years of experience and recommend having experience when using Oracle Database Vault. If errors occur, a complete database restoration may be required."
"The solution is relatively expensive."
"Oracle Database Vault is not easy to set up, and if I lose the key, it can lead to significant issues."
"The solution is excessively expensive. There is a lot of room for improvement, considering the pricing model of the solution."
"The implementation of Oracle Database Vault can be simple, but if you want to provide DB services for more complex applications, it gets complex."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Licensing fees are paid on a yearly basis."
"IBM Guardium Data Protection charges you based on the number of users, e.g. based on the number of licenses, and it's either on a per-license or a per-data basis."
"We haven't talked much about pricing and licencing. But it is not cheap for sure"
"I would suggest to review the type of data, need for security, and if the organizational structure needs the options IBM Guardium provides."
"The biggest challenge is the cost associated with the product, and the cost of maintaining. Everything is not translated directly to the benefits we see. There are benefits, yes, but if I were writing the check, would I buy Guardium? No."
"Its cost is good. With the new metric of licensing, such as PDO not being available now, customers are expecting a good price for the solution."
"IBM solutions have fair price strategy, and operates on a yearly basis. If it's a SaaS solution, then you can opt for yearly basis."
"The cost depends on the number of databases. You can purchase advanced licenses, but the standard license is calculated based on the number of databases you have to onboard."
"The product is more costly than its competitors."
"I rate the product's pricing a ten on a scale of one to ten, where one is a low price, and ten is a high price."
