Has provided reliable performance with useful features such as virtual chassis and high port density
The important thing for our use case of Juniper EX Series Ethernet Switches has been reliability, and there are features such as the Virtual Chassis feature, which is one of the things we use. In our case, we use them as core switches in a network that is not very large, and their reliability and the Virtual Chassis feature work well for us. It was one of the reasons we chose it, along with the port density; we are using the 32 port and the 48 port, which work for our needs. Regarding its security features such as MACsec encryption, they are standard and cover what we want; we do not do a lot as they are just Layer 2 switches, but it has standard security features.

"The performance of Huawei is good, and it provides security capabilities."
"We use Huawei Ethernet Switches for business networks and connectivity."
"The technical documentation available is very good. The technical support for the customer is also good - I would give it 8 out of 10."
"Huawei Ethernet Switches are both scalable and stable."
"The product is flexible and easy to set up."
"Juniper is the best when it comes to the core layer."
"Juniper supports all our connectivity infrastructure in our datacenter, supporting optimal availability and performance for services."
"The GUI interface distinguishes it from other vendors and makes it easy to operate."
"Juniper Switches' best feature is its flexibility."
"Junos OS is extremely flexible and easy to pick up."
"Juniper Switches' best feature is its flexibility."
"It's easy to use."

Cons

"The configuration is very difficult even for someone who is already familiar with the configuration process."
"The solution's marketing could be better. It spends money on marketing but doesn't highlight the most important features. Sometimes, it provides too much information, which can confuse customers."
"The licensing cost attached to the solution is atrocious, so from an improvement perspective, it should be made cheaper."
"The availability and the speed of the firmware updates are the only things wrong with Huawei. There are some vulnerabilities on the hardware."
"The performance has been slow at times."
"The tool is not very robust in harsh environments. Issues with cooling and power can cause these switches to fail, which concerns customers. They work well in data centers but might be problematic in places without cooling or heat."
"It is not easy to use if you need to monitor, patch or update. It needs to be configured by a network specialist because it doesn't have an overall central monitoring tool or anything like that. I'd say no ease of use."
"Connectivity is an area that needs improvement in the solution. Interconnectivity with third-party versions or Cisco Meraki should be made available to users in future releases of the solution."
"The initial setup of switches is not that simple."
"All Juniper documentation is terrible."
"The operating system could be better. Sometimes it's not stable enough or has some sort of critical block."
"The price is in the intermediate range. It is not overly expensive, but also not cheap. It could stand improvement."
"We would like it if there was more security added in future releases."
"It would be nice to have a more available list of modules that you can get for this solution."
"The only issue that we have with Juniper Ethernet Switches is the firmware because it is not stable."
"The Virtual Chassis Fabric is kind of complicated to troubleshoot sometimes. On the MPLS side, they're good — they're fine for the pseudo-wires and stuff—but they need more work on the LAN. It is difficult to troubleshoot their LAN technologies like Virtual Chassis."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"This is an affordable solution."
"The pricing is good. Still, I can choose a cheaper solution that offers a good value."
"Huawei provides much better performance for the same price, even when taking into account very aggressive commercial policies."
"The licensing costs depend on the negotiations that a user has with Huawei...There is a need to make some additional payments apart from the licensing costs attached to the solution."
"We have a one-year license. There are no additional costs besides the licensing fee."
"Huawei Ethernet Switches are cheaper than other competitors."
"Huawei has the same licensing model as Cisco, so both are working on the subscription model."
"It's a reasonable price, cheaper than some other vendors."
"Relatively affordable per switch."
"The pricing for the support is very high."
"For the QFX5000 Juniper switches, the price is about $10,000, but they would probably sell it for $1,000. Nobody can beat Juniper's pricing when it comes to switches. Juniper out-prices everybody, but they get you on the back end, maintenance, service port, and service contract."
"Their prices are competitive and not bad. It is cheaper than Cisco. We have a yearly license."
"It is an inexpensive product."
"The solution does not require a license to use it."
"Juniper Ethernet Switches are a less expensive solution than Cisco Ethernet Switches. There is only a one-time purchase for Juniper Ethernet Switches."
"We don't need to pay for the solution's features."

Benefits of Juniper vs Cisco
Both are decent products. I prefer Juniper for the following reasons: 1) Cleaner separation of data plane from control plane. Higher end Cisco devices are better at this but most of the lower end products still seem to be more integrated than I like. 2) The Hierarchical config design means I can…
