Ease of developing dashboards and receiving strong technical support have enabled efficient data visualization
Introducing custom features, such as NLP-based reports, is not very good in Tableau. My MD has been asking us for a way to write in natural language to request reports that the system should generate, but that isn't very effective with Tableau. As a developer, I can develop an on-demand report in Python quite easily, but exposing a REST API on the Tableau platform is not a very easy task. AI enablement is an area for improvement for Tableau, and that is something they might have to work upon. I have heard that ThoughtSpot is quite better in this regard, but the cost of ThoughtSpot is much higher. ThoughtSpot has lots of natural language-based report generation features that Tableau lacks.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Holistics Data Software is easy to use, and the price is suitable for my company."
"We use Tableau dashboards in Tableau Server connected to our ERP system in our weekly executive sales meetings, and the almost real-time data allows a better decision-making process while also helping us identify data quality and cleansing related issues."
"Tableau is good for quick visualization once you have the data, but not such a great interoperable tool or getting to multiple sources without a lot of work and know-how."
"Tableau provides a UI which can be used to build a clear graphical visualization that allows quick and easy data comprehension."
"Tableau was able to handle the challenges that we've had, in terms of reporting and analytics, and it's flexible enough so that you can bring in other data and be able to quickly marry that data with what you have, report on it, and be able to tell the story that the business wants fairly quickly."
"Tableau has provided the organisation a means to allow business people to explore their data at their pace."
"We found Tableau has the quickest learning time out of the few other BI reporting tools that we have used."
"The stability seems to be very reliable."
"Since Tableau is on the cloud, we haven't faced any challenges around scalability."

Cons

"The learning curve was quite hard for us to master all the features at the beginning."
"It needs more ETL capabilities, to be able to address the end-to-end BI need."
"Formatting controls could use some improvement."
"The pricing is a bit higher than the competition."
"Whenever it comes to specialized visualization, Tableau is an absolute failure."
"If I have to develop any, for example, pie charts, I can develop them just fine. However, if I have to develop a donut chart, that I cannot do it in a simple way. There are tricks that I need to use if I have to design a donut chart. It should be more flexible and provide more visualization options."
"There is still room to improve visualization when more than two dimensions are synchronized."
"Tableau could be more intuitive. It has all the features, but it is difficult to find them."
"The solution’s pricing could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"The initial cost that is set according to CPU cores is expensive."
"We are paying an annual licensing fee."
"This license is on a yearly basis."
"This solution is a bit expensive. The pricing options have become more difficult over the years. I think they are bordering on pricing themselves out of the market. They need different pricing options for various-sized businesses. Where my organization is a large organization, we are happy to pay a higher price because we can leverage the products very extensively. For smaller enterprises, different pricing options would be good."
"It is a bit difficult for some people when they hear $70.00 per month, as some solutions are available for less than $10.00 or for free."
"Tableau is an expensive solution."
"The pricing for Tableau is the same as the other products in the market."
"The professional version of Tableau is quite expensive."
