As for areas where Sophos Cyberoam UTM can be improved, it's hard to say; I have not at the moment seen anything that I could not get a solution for, but if there's anything, I'll make sure to raise that with the Sophos team. Regarding the documentation, I find that it is still lacking, although the YouTube videos, user training, and knowledge forum are now better than they were before. Sophos Cyberoam UTM should move in the direction of AI capabilities, as the world is moving toward AI. Sophos Cyberoam UTM is not promoted enough. I see FortiGates organizing student competitions and Cisco doing CCNA classes, so Sophos should follow that route as well.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The only firewall able to monitor traffic from a CCTV network. Can detect unauthorized devices plugged into the network, which standard firewalls can't do."
"We found some limitations with Fortinet FortiGate, and we are satisfied with Hillstone T-Series right now."
"Hillstone supports IOT setup and detecting intrusions from IOT or CCTV connectivity, and with this solution, we can also detect unauthorized devices plugged into the CCTV network and sound the alarm to the administrator."
"It has been stable so far."
"We installed Hillstone T-Series after a ransomware attack. The dashboard and user interface are very good."
"In some circumstances, the malware functionality is the most important feature, and in other cases, some other features."
"I liked the product so much I purchased one for my home as well."
"The main features I have found best are the load balancer and ease of use."
"Good user interface."
"Web application filtering eases internet access control."
"In a different continent, a different company, and as a customer (not a distributor) I still used the same brand, Cyberoam!"
"We are using this product to protect our networks, by blocking some websites and applications such as YouTube or WhatsApp."
"The reporting features are very good."

Cons

"Licensing is not cheap."
"Another loophole with Hillstone T-Series is that when we connect through WiFi and turn our hot spot on, all who connect through the hotspot get all the functions, and the security does not work."
"Licensing is not cheap, but there are customers who will buy because they understand that this has a cost involved and they will cater their budget for that."
"They have a very good technical support team, but I think there are some communication issues due to language differences."
"Sometimes the proxy server turns idle, then we need to restart the service."
"The data support response time should be improved."
"Needs a mail alert/notification when the device loses any of its connections, during ISP redundancy implementation."
"Regarding the documentation, I find that it is still lacking, although the YouTube videos, user training, and knowledge forum are now better than they were before."
"The Web Filter and Application Filter need improvement. In the Web Filter, there is a problem to block YouTube by HTTPS, so this needs to improve."
"The VPN needs to be improved."
"I would say there's room for improvement in terms of the GUI. Because it is better than some of the other standard firewalls. They have the drag and drop features."
"The initial setup is complex and requires the presence of an expert."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"On a scale from one to ten, with one being low and ten being high price, I would rate the price of Hillstone T-Series at three. There are no additional costs other than renewal costs."
"We got a much cheaper price than that provided by Fortinet right now."
"The product has a very low price compared to other solutions."
"It's not an expensive product."
"It’s value for the money. It’s functionally competitive with higher priced alternative brands."
"There are many options for payment of the subscription license. You purchase a subscription every one, two, or three years. You can also have monthly subscriptions but we typically offer subscriptions for three years because from the financial perspective it is better to have a three-year subscription."
"I had an issue when I was trying to stop a user from using too much bandwidth while I was using Azure, I was not able to stop them."
"The solution's pricing is good since it is neither too high nor too low"
"On a scale of one to ten, where ten is the most expensive, and one is the least expensive, I rate the solution a five."
"We pay for licensing the solution. It's my understanding that it is not overly expensive. It may be somewhere around $2,000 for a license."
