Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Google Analytics for Firebase is the best feature of the solution.""Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.""It is a very stable solution.""Its initial setup process is easy.""If you are selling an app with extensive Firebase use, costs may go up.""The most valuable features of Google Firebase have been Analytics, Remote Config, and Crashlytics. Additionally, a lot of companies have used push notifications which is important. There is little maintenance required.""The most beautiful feature of Google Firebase is that it gives you a lot of functionalities out of the box, without you having to develop or having to complete a solution. For example, identity management is integrated, and security is out of the box, particularly security for the user and the ability of each user to see his data. I also like that Google Firebase has a really good performance and is comparable to MongoDB. It's on the same level, and sometimes, it's on an even higher level than MongoDB. Other functions that Google Firebase has that I find valuable include information dissemination, mail automation, and SMS, available out of the box. Another valuable feature of the solution is that it allows you to develop some functionalities on the server side, so you can write JavaScript functions on the server side and use those functions quite easily. Google Firebase gives you almost a full backend environment out of the box without you having to do any deployments or a lot of administration because all administration is given out of the box.""This solution supports our real time database. We also use it for AB testing and for its Google Cloud functions. We make use of Crashlytics and reporting on details."

"The most valuable feature is the domain settings page.""Service availability is the most valuable feature. It gives every user 100 percent uptime.""The most valuable feature is the static IP address, which has been very helpful for being able to log into the same address over the course of more than a decade.""It is also important that Linode offers worldwide coverage via multiple data centers. The ability to deploy on multiple servers, worldwide, allows us to have distributed services and failover and redundancy.""The ability to fire up a virtual machine, use it, and then kill it, is quite a valuable feature for me.""The most valuable features are the simple scalability and ease of starting a new virtual machine.""The fact that you can do any Linux distribution is great. You can try out any Linux distribution, even some of the more obscure ones, and they are always keeping them up-to-date. As soon as a new distribution comes out, it is on the platform pretty much the same day, which I find really helpful.""Linode offers cost-effective pricing, and it enables me to swiftly deploy my services."

Cons
"The platform's bandwidth is quite expensive. Its price could be better.""I would like to see faster data migration and some support for other languages in the next release.""Integrations and extensions offered by the product are quite limited presently.""Google Firebase could improve the ability to create our own reports, other than what's available on the dashboard. For example, if we want to customize the report or export the data, this is a large task.""One of the challenges I was facing when I was using it was the library called Google Dialogflow which allows you to connect your chatbot with an intent. So there is so much adding when you are trying to connect it with your service because you have to do a lot of repetition writing a new intent, putting it step by set so it is good to escape. I believe it should be flexible and dedicate the intents based on the relating and to write a lesser code when doing that.""Their technical support needs to be enhanced with more support for customers.""There's always room for improvement in every product, and the major improvement that's needed in Google Firebase is its simplification, particularly for unsavvy users or non-technical users. If you're not tech-savvy, it would be very difficult for you to use the functions of the solution and understand its security rules. If you want even non-technical people to find it easy to use Google Firebase, it should be simplified because the difference between screen-derived management and code-derived management isn't complex, so simplification wouldn't be an issue.""The cold start-up of the cloud function needs to speed up. For me personally, I'm not experienced in anything there, however, I've just read online it's a problem."

More Google Firebase Cons →

"The only improvement in this aspect of the service which I can think of is perhaps a pool of developers who could be hired for those cases where the need goes beyond the support offered.""It would be helpful if they provided the additional Linux distributions that I prefer using. But there is still a workaround. I can do it without direct support. It's a bit more complicated, but it can still be done.""It would be nice if they had more data centers in Latin America.""When it comes to marketing and exposure, Linode needs improvement because I just randomly found them by looking for Linux solutions.""Because they are a smaller company, they do not have, for example, all of the ways for authentication that Amazon or Azure has.""I've had some difficulties with some of their IP addresses being banned by certain mail servers.""I'm not sure what could be improved at Linode since they're likely already making enhancements, especially with the Akamai acquisition and, I don't have any specific suggestions as I haven't encountered any major issues. I might consider using API for managing DNS records, but overall, I'm satisfied with Linode.""One thing that I'd really like to see is auto-scaling node pools for their Kubernetes. I don't think that they have that. That's a huge one and would be very helpful. Specifically, what I would like is auto-scaling node pools that would scale down to zero nodes, which is tricky. That's very important for certain use cases."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "They have a free tier that will cover most projects. For more intensive use, you pay as you use it, but the price is very cheap."
  • "It is not easy to calculate the cost per copy, use or if the load rose dramatically we did not know how that would impact the final price."
  • "The monthly cost is based on writing data and queries to the database."
  • "The pricing component is a bit confusing when it comes to what exactly you'll pay for, but I wouldn't say it's expensive."
  • "The moment you go into volumes, then you work on a pay-per-volume basis."
  • "The price of Google Firebase is very good."
  • "We are using the free version of Google Firebase."
  • "Pricing for Google Firebase is not so expensive, and if you're a start-up with a small amount of data, it will be quite cheap, and there's even a free tier that you can use. If you're doing a pilot with a reasonable amount of data, for example, just a few gigabytes, it's still on the free tier. If you increase the amount of data, Google Firebase pricing is still reasonable."
  • More Google Firebase Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "I pay just over £20 per month and have done so ever since I started eight years ago, which to me is good value."
  • "The pricing model is very simple. I like the simplicity of it, starting at $5, then doubling as it goes up from there. That is a brilliant idea, and it is not complex at all. It is about as dead simple as you can imagine. So, if you want to double what you have, then you double your price, pay the money, and reboot. It is done. It's that simple. You can't beat that."
  • "One key difference is that pricing is very hard to come by and to understand with all the bigger companies. Their pricing models are so weird and it's hard to figure out exactly how much I am going to pay for this kind of service. Everything is piecemeal. With Linode, it's simple and straightforward. You know exactly what you will have to pay at the end of the day."
  • "Compared to other service providers, like AWS and Google, the cost of services are much less and more affordable. We are saving about 90 percent by going with Linode versus other cloud providers."
  • "The pricing model is very simple. If you have very small applications, you can use the plan which costs $5 per month. That gives you 50 GB of memory and almost 1 GB of RAM. If you need more than you have to select the next plan which is $10 per month, which has about 70 GB of data and 2 GB of RAM."
  • "The value for the price is really good."
  • "Pricing is very good and flexible, according to the resources required."
  • "Being that they are small, their prices are slightly higher than the large providers like Amazon if you compare raw computing power."
