Google Compute Engine and Google Firebase are both cloud services from Google, targeting diverse needs in cloud computing and app development. Google Compute Engine offers significant advantages in customization and scalability, appealing to those requiring extensive processing power. Firebase appears to cater effectively to agile app developers with its comprehensive backend services and ease of integration.
Features: Google Compute Engine provides virtual machine customization, preemptive and Spot instances, and managed instance groups that ensure high availability and cost efficiency. Users can leverage GPU-equipped configurations for demanding applications. Google Firebase stands out with its real-time database, integrated authentication services, and the ability to seamlessly deploy server-side JavaScript functions. Additional features include crash analytics, notifications, and cloud functionality helpful for app development.
Room for Improvement: Google Compute Engine users seek more intuitive setup processes, better BYOL licensing, and enhanced regional support. They also require improved managed services. Firebase could enhance its query language capabilities, expand offline support, and improve pricing transparency to aid non-technical users. Enhanced data management and analytics tools could further its development efficiency.
Ease of Deployment and Customer Service: Deployment with Google Compute Engine is straightforward for those familiar with cloud practices, though it presents challenges for newcomers. Firebase is praised for rapid deployment, especially in public cloud setups, with robust community support available. Despite mixed feedback on official Google assistance, online resources provide firm backing for Firebase and Compute Engine users.
Pricing and ROI: Google Compute Engine’s pay-as-you-go model provides flexibility but may not always be the most economical. Spot pricing and sustained use discounts can offer significant savings for temporary projects. Firebase’s generous free tier is an attractive option for small to medium applications, though costs can rise with scale, making forecasting ROI challenging. Users appreciate Firebase for cost-effective project startups with the potential for increased expenses as demands grow.
If the community doesn't have the answers, then I contact the Google Firebase team directly.
I do not currently find any other competitors that match its offering.
It can handle all tiers of the market effectively.
I would rate the scalability of Google Firebase as eight because I miss some features from MS SQL, particularly the SQL functions.
Since Google Firebase is a NoSQL platform, areas for improvement include enhancing query functionalities to be more equivalent to SQL, like MS SQL.
Automation testing with mobile devices could be improved, especially in regression testing to ensure that new feature launches do not affect other features.
Google Firebase offers a reasonable pricing structure.
In GCP, there's a custom configuration feature unlike AWS and Azure.
It allows for pre-launch testing without publishing it on Google Play right away.
What I appreciate most about Google Firebase is the speed, accuracy, and security it offers.
Google Compute Engine delivers virtual machines running in Google's innovative data centers and worldwide fiber network. Compute Engine's tooling and workflow support enable scaling from single instances to global, load-balanced cloud computing.
Compute Engine's VMs boot quickly, come with persistent disk storage, and deliver consistent performance. Our virtual servers are available in many configurations including predefined sizes or the option to create Custom Machine Types optimized for your specific needs. Flexible pricing and automatic sustained use discounts make Compute Engine the leader in price/performance.
