Very good for collaboration on software projects
We use GitHub for code repository alongside Bitbucket GitHub is very good for collaboration on software projects. We prefer Bitbucket for commercial use, while GitHub is used for open source. You can get the differences, history of changes, and version control for various pull requests. You can…

Configuration management features improve workflow but require a steep learning curve
I need to work more with Helix Core to identify specific areas for improvement. However, it has an extensive feature set that leads to a steep learning curve, where users need to learn quite a bit of features to work with it effectively. While its customization is not an issue, the GUI might not appeal to everyone.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable features are GitHub Actions for triggering workflows, GitHub Secrets for saving credentials without needing a third-party service, and the UI for identifying errors in the code when we commit."
"We can make a private repository."
"I have found GitHub stable."
"The Projects Tab, which shows you the todo list and the progress for projects, is very helpful."
"During our use of GitHub, we have not encountered any problems and GitHub adds new features frequently."
"The most valuable feature is the fact that it's cloud-based, and we don't have to manage an on-premises server to use it."
"GitHub allows us the option to push files from a non-UA method or directly upload files from the UA. You can integrate GitHub with Jenkins to do CI/CD."
"Our code is secure."
"The customer service and support are excellent."
"I find the configuration management features of Helix Core particularly valuable."

Cons

"There is a bit of a learning curve."
"I think one area where GitHub could improve is its search and navigation functionality within repositories. For example, we use IDEs like IntelliJ or Visual Studio Code when developing code. These IDEs allow us to easily navigate from one piece of code to another file where a method is being called. It would be really helpful if the solution could add this navigation feature."
"It is currently only from the development perspective. It doesn't have features related to project management and testing. It is not like Azure. So, there is a lot of room for improvement. It is a version control product, and it would be good if they can come up with a complete DevOps product."
"GitHub should work on enhancing its search capability. The tool should add some more features and functionalities."
"GitHub could improve by being more user-friendly."
"When solving merge conflicts, it would be helpful to have tooltips within the actions to know what changes could happen next when resolving a conflict."
"The documentation needs to be more concise and easier for developers to understand."
"GitHub could add some more security features."
"It has an extensive feature set that leads to a steep learning curve, where users need to learn quite a bit of features to work with it effectively."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We pay a subscription-based yearly licensing fee for the solution."
"It's cheaper than Bitbucket."
"You don't have to pay for a license if you are using the free version."
"I use the free version of GitHub."
"The price of this solution is reasonable."
"If I consider the market standards, the product's price is pocket-friendly."
"We have an enterprise licensing agreement, and I am not part of the finance department so I can't say how much it costs."
"The basic licensing model is free, and if you need to have technical support and such things, then it does cost something. You only need to pay extra if you need technical support."
