Daily workflows have become streamlined as I manage projects, learn from clones, and host sites
The thing that has frustrated me is sometimes when I push using a Git command, I need to force the push, which is the main thing. The setup is frustrating because GitHub could add a repository with pre-installed packages or something since I need to install packages in VS Code before pushing and maintain it in the codebase. Git packages need to be installed manually, and if that was already in a GitHub repository, that would be much better. GitHub packages can be installed previously for the project upon the project requirement, and that is the thing I wanted to add here. That would be good. According to governance and security, I recently heard about some security issues in GitHub. I think that could be centralized and should consider those security issues and clear them. The AI capabilities there include Copilot or something else. I recently heard about security issues, but I do not know about it clearly. However, if security has been more tightened, it will be better.

Configuration management features improve workflow but require a steep learning curve
I need to work more with Helix Core to identify specific areas for improvement. However, it has an extensive feature set that leads to a steep learning curve, where users need to learn quite a bit of features to work with it effectively. While its customization is not an issue, the GUI might not appeal to everyone.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The initial setup was easy."
"We are using GitHub because it is open-source software, which is the most valuable solution for us."
"This product is very good for storing and versioning code."
"GitHub have a built-in software application development environment and this has been most useful."
"The most valuable feature is the source code management. It's very helpful and it's a great product."
"This is a simple, easy-to-use solution that is fully compatible with Git."
"GitHub provides the SFH key to protect our passwords and our connection, it secures our repositories so any attempt to access from outside the company is blocked, and we also have control of our product versions in GitHub, which is very useful."
"It is a very good solution."
"Perforce is very fast, even for very huge assets."
"The code comparison functionality and the command line options for automation are valuable features."
"I find the configuration management features of Helix Core particularly valuable."
"The customer service and support are excellent."
"Technical support for routine issues and tutoring beginners is absolutely the best."
"Perforce has given us the capability to manage our deployments on different environments."
"The excellent traceability of all changes made to the product and the support for collaborative work."

Cons

"The UI is a little outdated, so that could be improved."
"The project management sector really needs some improvement for GitHub. I don't know if GitHub made sense for me as a project manager."
"There could be some improvements related to the automation of certain processes, especially with the integration of artificial intelligence."
"GitHub storage is one of the main requirements and it could improve."
"GitHub should provide more integration in their next release, including integrating with Jenkins, CI/CD and Jira."
"I think one area where GitHub could improve is its search and navigation functionality within repositories. For example, we use IDEs like IntelliJ or Visual Studio Code when developing code. These IDEs allow us to easily navigate from one piece of code to another file where a method is being called. It would be really helpful if the solution could add this navigation feature."
"GitHub's issue management could be improved a little from an organization standpoint."
"It would be useful to have tutorial videos within the GitHub dashboard."
"It scales well, but installation and server management gets technically very complicated when the installation grows."
"The offline versioning needs to be improved."
"There are scalability issues when there is too much traffic, such as when there are extremely huge amount of calls by APIs."
"Perforce does not appear to have an enterprise scale software test environment. We sometimes serve as their software QA department."
"The part of Perforce that could be most improved is its automatic resolving of code merge conflicts."
"However, it has an extensive feature set that leads to a steep learning curve, where users need to learn quite a bit of features to work with it effectively."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We have an enterprise licensing agreement, and I am not part of the finance department so I can't say how much it costs."
"It's cheaper than Bitbucket."
"We pay a licensing fee for GitHub, which could be cheaper."
"The licensing model from GitHub is very clear."
"Regarding pricing, I'd rate it eight out of ten. It's decent and not too expensive, and small businesses can also afford it. With AWS taking CodeCommit out of the market, I don't see many competitors for small companies in terms of GitHub."
"The tool offers a free program. As you go, you can upgrade from the community version to the professional one. I believe it costs about ten dollars per person, per month."
"I use the free version of the tool."
"The basic licensing model is free, and if you need to have technical support and such things, then it does cost something. You only need to pay extra if you need technical support."
