AI-driven insights have reduced downtime and improved cross-team collaboration
We encountered some challenges while using Dynatrace. Although the initial setup was smooth, fine-tuning alert thresholds and custom metrics took some time. Another challenge was that Dynatrace charges based on host units, so we had to carefully plan our agent deployments. The licensing model is expensive. Additionally, the complexity of setup is an issue. While OneAgent and auto-discover services are powerful, the setup is more complex compared to other tools such as Prometheus and Grafana. These integrations are simple and basic, but Dynatrace setup requires more complexity based on the environment. For new users wanting to use Dynatrace, it is difficult. However, the AI-related solutions and metrics took us to the next level for identifying and fixing things. Dynatrace requires an agent for operation. OneAgent is powerful, but it is also resource-heavy. On lightweight nodes or older systems, the agent can slightly impact performance. If Dynatrace could implement a lightweight agent behavior, we could make things faster. Additionally, if Dynatrace could add a long-term retention policy so that we could store more data and find fine-grained details, that would help us. While Dynatrace managed edition supports on-premises deployment, the SaaS version depends on cloud connectivity. For highly regulated or air-gapped environments, setup and updates can be challenging. Although the initial setup is smooth, if someone wants to fine-tune it and fully understand the tool end-to-end, it could be tricky.

CrowdStrike is ahead of the game. If I may say anything about Falcon LogScale to improve the services, I would talk about the way you develop parsers. The documentation should be more straightforward. It is not easy to quickly find the documentation, especially if you are using CrowdStrike. Most customers use Falcon LogScale because of CrowdStrike. The documentation of Falcon LogScale is not on the CrowdStrike portal just like the rest of Falcon documentation. I usually find that the main Falcon LogScale documentation is found on the Falcon LogScale website itself. I think there should be a link or direct documentation within the CrowdStrike pages. It is not necessarily a fault. If you find where the documentation resides, you can trace it to what they are doing. However, for the ease of use for Falcon administrators, the same documentation on the Falcon LogScale portal should be on the CrowdStrike dashboard.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Reduces troubleshooting time by finding problems before the system is launched."
"From a management perspective, I have a single pane of glass view to my entire environment."
"Since we moved to OneAgent, we are much quicker to address live incidents and problems that occur in our systems."
"The scalability is amazing; it is the best, and one of our customers is a massive healthcare customer."
"It gives complete stats of the user and what they are doing."
"Dynatrace facilitates great live performance monitoring, allowing us to easily and visually detect problems before they become a large impact issue to the business."
"It is very stable. The improvements that they keep making just make the tool more useful."
"The PurePath technology, which is Dynatrace's bread and butter, is invaluable from early development all the way to production support."
"Falcon LogScale offers excellent features, with scalability being the most notable, and the search speed stands out to me as particularly good."
"It offers the capability to view live log ingestion directly from the console which means you can seamlessly manage live log data ingestion alongside accessing and analyzing older data from the past."
"I have only heard the best about CrowdStrike's support."
"Falcon LogScale seems to be a better option with better visibility when it comes to the dashboard and the kill chain process, including the attack surface."
"The biggest advantages of Falcon LogScale are the speed at which the queries return to you and the ease of use."
"One of the key features is the fast search functionality, enabling us to get results within a few seconds."
"Falcon LogScale's insights give you a lot of information that an expert already thought would be valuable for you."
"The fast search and index-free data retention are very valuable."

Cons

"Needs a greater meta data capture."
"A role-based view and a Python monitoring tool would make a simple user interface more usable."
"The cost is somewhat high."
"We're thinking about moving to Dynatrace because AppMon is not scaling for us."
"One thing that would help it tighter integration with DCRUM. It's somewhat difficult to drill down and see everything, but I think that's in the future versions. We just haven't seen that yet."
"Pretty much every month there are new features. However, its information on those new features is scarce."
"Make it easier to define applications. E.g., provide an API for applications defined by REST services."
"They've leveraged those security gateways and renamed them ActiveGates, and now there are different web plugins we can run on it... Sometimes the development of those seems to be running very fast and it's not complete. They don't yet function quite as easily as the OneAgents do. But I have hopes that that's going to get better. We have tried the MQ, the Citrix, and the Oracle ActiveGate plugins. They could be sharper. It's the right direction to go. It just seems like it could be smoother."
"CrowdStrike support is not good."
"One area of Falcon LogScale that I think could be improved is that it is a bit complex."
"KQL is a bit challenging for us."
"The integration could improve."
"There are some overlapping features found in multiple tools."
"The price could be lower."
"That is a difficult question regarding Falcon LogScale. That is really a question for the professionals, and I am not a professional, so I do not know."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"If there are no corporate requirements to run Dynatrace Managed (operating it yourself), I would definitely go for the size option. For small and medium-sized companies, the size option is probably the cheapest one. You don't need to look into operating it. You don't need to run hardware. It is pay as you go."
"Price (of the product) is a major concern for all the clients I work with."
"Always gives good ROI and total cost of ownership."
"Pricing can be high, especially for Portuguese standards. But as one says, you get what you pay for."
"Everything is great, but the licensing could always be cheaper. With the every growing tool set of Ops teams, we find it harder to budget for tooling while ensuring we still have the proper insight into our applications."
"The limitations I see are more to do - and maybe it's because of the nature of the job I have - but they have to do with pricing. It's a little bit pricey. It's a very good tool. It's worth the price, to a certain degree. But it's hard to justify when it's that costly."
"You get a really well-planned out monitoring suite for the money spent."
"Purchasing through the AWS Marketplace was a pretty straightforward process. We had no hiccups."
