Ease of acquisition, simple deployment, and priced well
The support from Dell VxFlex Ready Nodes is okay. It could be better, they have to work on their approach. The approach they have I call "pass the baton". Every manufacturer does this, such as Cisco, Dell, and Microsoft. You call in, receive a call handler, and give them your problem. The first person you talk to can never fix your problem. They just collect information. There's probably a 5 percent chance that they could fix your problem. Then they pass it off to the next person, there is a lot of passing. That's why I call it "pass the baton". The company I work for the maintenance services is at 98 percent, we receive over 50,000 incidents a month, for those customers who have support through Dell, Cisco, or someone else, 98 percent of our incidents or ticket requests get resolved by your first point of contact. We try to take out that frustration. Knowing that it's possible to fix that model. I don't think it saves them much money, because they're tying up too many resources where if they could route those incidents to the person that could fix them the first time, it would just save a lot of frustration on the customer's behalf. It would make everything a lot more efficient, and a better overall customer support image. It is a bad model that many vendors use.

Infrastructure efficiency has improved significantly with quick server provisioning, though physical to virtual migrations need a streamlined in-house tool
From my experience with Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI), there is one area that needs improvement. When moving a critical infrastructure from a physical machine to Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI), we currently have to use a third-party tool to convert the physical machine to a VM. We have to use VMware converter to perform this conversion before moving it to Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI). I would suggest that Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI) should develop their own P2V (physical to VM) tools instead of requiring users to rely on third-party solutions.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Dell EMC VxFlex Ready Nodes can support what we call a heterogeneous environment. So you can have VMware workloads, Hyper-V workloads, bare metal Red Hat workloads, Kubernetes workloads all on the same cluster. You're not pigeonholed into either all bare metal or all virtualized. So it supports basically any platform."
"This solution is ideal for commercial to enterprise customers looking for a single platform to manage all their different applications."
"If you're going to buy Dell VxFlex Ready Nodes, it is good if you need something that's easy to deploy, and you're not going to be extending it into the public cloud, it's a great entry-level solution."
"The most valuable features of Dell VxFlex Ready Nodes are the ease of acquisition."
"With the simplicity of the deployment and the one-click operations over the cluster, Nutanix Acropolis AOS is a good solution."
"Don't be afraid of Acropolis Hypervisor."
"Our environment is now consolidated into one solution, making it easier to get support because we no longer need to go to multiple vendors and can just have one point of contact."
"I valued the high performance I/O and the high availability (HA)."
"Nutanix does a superb job with technical support."
"ROI was seen as soon as we went live with the system, as it has lower hardware maintenance costs and less power consumption."
"Best features are around data locality, compression, and deduplication."
"This is a complete, very user-friendly product."

Cons

"I would say the only area for improvement is around its price."
"From a technical perspective, it's a pretty rock solid solution. I would say the only area for improvement is around its price."
"Dell VxFlex Ready Nodes is a little less sophisticated than some of the other solutions out there. A full-blown cloud foundation has a lot more to it."
"Dell VxFlex Ready Nodes is a little less sophisticated than some of the other solutions out there."
"Regarding third-party backup solutions, the only agentless option is Commvault, which is expensive, complex, and requires intensive vendor training."
"Nutanix needs to improve network features like Passthrough – SR-IOV."
"NCI's pricing is expensive."
"I believe that improvements could be made in regards to the DR in addition to deduplication and integration with others platforms. They also do not offer opportunities for network virtualization so it would be nice to see that in the future."
"The GUI of Nutanix Acropolis AOS could be improved that can be done from the OEM side."
"Nutanix Cloud is not that helpful for us."
"Pricing and varieties of options could be better."
"Nutanix is compatible with third-party hardware, but it's still very limited, and it's not very flexible on that side."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Dell VxFlex Ready Nodes is a cheaper solution than Nutanix and HyperFlex."
"Its price is fine. I can't really complain about that."
"Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure’s pricing is very good and competitive."
"We just have a support license for Nutanix."
"The product’s licensing fee is moderately expensive."
"We got the renewal done recently, and there was no cost involved."
"We renew our license on a yearly basis and have no costs in addition to the standard fee."
"While cost may seem higher than your traditional 3-tier architecture, you need to look at the bigger picture. You're not just buying hardware here. You're buying a complete environment."
"The license is quite clear to me. It's much clearer than what we had with our previous virtualization environment. The licensing is not complex to understand."
