We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"This is a very reliable solution.""The most valuable feature is stability.""The security is the most valuable aspect of this solution. It also has good storage and resource handling.""The product is reliable.""This solution comes with a lifetime warranty.""The product is cheap.""The most valuable features of the solution stem from the fact that it is a stable and reliable product covered with good warranties and prices that ensure deep discounts for partners.""Dell PowerConnect Switches are easy to configure."

"It's easy to manage and configure. The configurations can be exported and imported to another solution.""The most valuable features of HPE ProCurve are the reports, lifetime warranty, and CLI.""One of the biggest things in HPE ProCurve that I like, though not necessarily a feature, is the HPE warranty because it's probably better than any of the other vendors that we deal with, as it has a lifetime replacement. Feature-wise, the web interface of HPE ProCurve is typically pretty good and I like that as well.""The web page interface is very convenient and easy to use for setting up your feedback loops.""It has an excellent menu system where you can use both the CLI and a menu system and the GUI version. They have three options for manipulating, updating, and changing the switch, which we like.""It is stable, and it fulfills our needs. We have all the functions we need, so we're totally satisfied.""The LAN features give us exactly what we need.""The user interface is the most valuable aspect of the solution for us."

Cons
"The solution's ROI for generic networking is not extraordinary.""When it comes to the configuration, there should be documentation and interactive help available to assist people who have experience with products from other vendors.""There should be more port options in this switch. Currently, it has 24 or 48 ports. However, some of our customers require only 8 ports, but I have to put a switch with 24 ports. They should provide smaller solutions and complimentary access point for companies like ours with a low quantity of work. The main issue with this product is branding. They should improve their branding and promote their brand more in Mexico. Customers are more aware of brands like Cisco as compared to Dell.""I would like to see better scalability and more features on these switches in the future.""The CLI for Dell PowerConnect Switches is sometimes confusing, especially with the LAN, but for the GUI it is simple.""An area for improvement would be that it's very hard to configure if you're not familiar with the UI or CLI of the product. The UI itself could also be improved.""The pricing could always be a bit lower.""The network features are not good."

More Dell PowerConnect Switches Cons →

"The solution doesn't have web-based management, which is why we've moved to a different solution.""The solution should offer different gigabit interfaces. Right now, they have ten gigabits. However, for our needs, we only need one gigabit. We don't need 24 or 48 ports. We only need eight to ten. HPE should introduce into their portfolio some smaller and more compact options.""The only things that might need improvement would be the administrative tools and the graphical interface. The GUI could be improved on the administrative interface, for example.""If you make a change and you disconnect yourself from the switch, you will create an issue.""These switches can be made more stable and robust.""The product must provide something similar to Cisco’s command-line interface.""An area for improvement in HPE ProCurve is the web interface not being as robust because you still have to go to the COI to make modifications or look at the exact configuration.""There should be faster interfaces on the switch, such as 25 gigabits."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "This solution is much cheaper than comparable products by Cisco."
  • "The price of these switches is okay."
  • "Its price is okay. Sometimes, it is lower than a Cisco solution."
  • "Cheaper than its competitors"
  • "Inexpensive"
  • "If you want to purchase a new Dell PowerConnect Switch, you will pay up to $1,600, but I bought them used. I bought the four Dell PowerConnect Switches that I used for $1,000."
  • "Dell PowerConnect switches are cheaper than Cisco switches. Cisco's higher capacity switches (100 or 200 gigs) are super-expensive. With the higher capacity, the price of the switches and the price of the architecture go high. Dell is cheaper and modular. So, I don't need to invest 100% upfront. I can invest as I progress. That is an option because the chassis will not be populated with all the pluggables. I have a choice because it is modular. I can go for 25 gigs today, and after four months, I can go for 100 gigs, and after that, I can go for 200 gigs. I have a choice when it is not a fixed switch."
  • "Pricing for Dell PowerConnect Switches is quite competitive compared to Cisco and HP pricing. Dell has cheaper pricing and the company is trying to push for sales for its switching infrastructure because right now, the current market is dominated by Cisco. In the US market, there's Cisco, HP, Juniper, and Arista which you can buy for data center switching meant for different kinds of enterprises and ISPs. Dell PowerConnect Switches, on the other hand, is a product for people who need smaller setups or individual switches, especially those looking for a cheaper product and basic switching, though you can also buy a complete suite packaged with the switches."

  • "This is an expensive switch."
  • "The price of this product is cheap."
  • "HPE ProCurve products are reasonably priced."
  • "The price could be more competitive."
  • "We are a public company, so we are obliged to take the best offer from the vendors. They gave us the best price for the needs we had. It was considerably less than Cisco. It had maybe 40% lower cost."
