Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The end-to-end solution itself is great. The most valuable is the workload feature that Collibra offers. There is a vast amount of flexibility in terms of how much we can customize. It gives us a lot of options to implement for a lot of purposes."
"It's not a complicated product."
"I find the rule modification and the replication of the rules in Collibra happens very quickly."
"The most important feature is the ease of use."
"The technical support from Collibra Governance is excellent, and I rate it as ten out of ten."
"There is a good community setup around the solution that can provide insights."
"I would recommend Collibra Governance depending on the needs of the company."
"The feature I like most in Collibra Governance is the lineage. It lets me do lineage that you can set up, for example, technical lineage and business lineage. The solution lets me associate the right people with the right assets, so anybody who has to look at end-to-end instances can use Collibra Governance and figure it out, in terms of who to contact, what to do, and where to find what you need."
"The solution has very good online assistance."
"It shows how the data was transformed on the way and how the solutions were derived. This is the essence of the tool and why it is so powerful."
"The best features of Collibra Lineage include its ability to map data flows and provide clear visualizations."
"The solution allowed us to quickly and efficiently implement our data governance operating model, including accountabilities, regulatory lineage, and data dictionaries. This was much faster and more efficient than manual methods or other tools like Informatica. I prefer Collibra Lineage for its self-service capabilities."
"The integration with other Collibra Lineage products is valuable in our data governance initiatives."
"The solution makes data more discoverable and transparent."
"The most valuable features of Collibra Lineage are the multiple options for automation. Additionally, if you have a scenario where automation does not work, you have the option to manually create the lineage. The solution does not force you to always go through an automated way where you have broken lineage and you are stuck without a lineage."
"The diagrams are good for data visualization."

Cons

"Certain implementations, including lineage maps, could be user-friendly."
"There should be more detailed documentation on the selectors and certain information, and a reduction in cost as compared to other tools."
"The licensing is one area that could get improved."
"Recently, I find that the default process of issue management in Collibra is really complex — It wasn't really helpful to us."
"Collibra gives a lot of facilities in the cloud, but achieving those facilities on-prem becomes a big challenge"
"The domain-based approach could be more helpful for aspects such as customer 360 and product 360."
"There's a lot of things available in their Data Intelligence Cloud that are not available on-premise."
"If someone changes the metadata, we can't see who changed it."
"The workflow documentation must be improved."
"I have seen many customers moving away from Collibra Lineage after using it for a couple of years because the cost-benefit analysis does not give them a favorable report."
"It would be better if features like the privacy module and AI-based Collibra DQ were included in one package instead of being separate and requiring additional costs. Currently, the basic package covers lineage and documentation, but the extra modules come at an extra cost."
"There is room for improvement in Collibra Lineage as it could incorporate automation features which would allow it to find data lineage across a data stack independently."
"I experience occasional downtime, bugs, and some glitches."
"Before you can use this solution, you have to make a lot of changes to how you measure your information in your organization, the data governance and policies, and the organizational structures that use them. Many companies believe that if they purchase the licenses for the tool that they have done the job, but this is far from the case with this tool."
"If a developer implements ETL in Glue or PySpark, Collibra cannot capture lineage out of that."
"The product must be cheaper."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Collibra provides you with a license based on the subscription model that you purchase."
"The solution's pricing is moderate and not very expensive."
"Collibra Governance is an expensive solution."
"We purchase its annual license. There is an extra cost for additional users."
"I think it is on a yearly basis, but I'm not involved with the pricing session, so I have no idea. There are several licenses for different models. You get one license per product, but a lot of features are controlled separately through different licenses. So, as and when you want to use a feature, you have to procure the license for that feature."
"Collibra is a bit expensive."
"There are different levels of licenses. For example, some users can only do read-only licenses, and others have the stewardship license where they can give access to users."
"Collibra Governance is expensive - I would rate its pricing as one out of five."
"There are different licenses available for Collibra Lineage based on what kind of access you want. If you want, for example, a read-only license they have different ones to pick from."
"It's expensive, especially for small companies."

Hi,There is not a default answer. It depends on your focus and your data source. If you are looking a data governance tool for Microsoft 365 or for Azure, Microsoft Purview should be the best because of the native integration.

These two are suites of 'tools' for metadata management. I would ask first that you list 'what' you are wanting to achieve with such tools.  Data Catalog?  Data Lineage?  Table level or Column level lineage? Data Quality detection, etc, etc. Your answers will be critical as you engage various vendors as each may say they do 'it all', but the reality is something less. Also, do you need to manage metadata across heterogeneous systems, just Azure, or others, because some tools are great if used on their 'native' platform, but not so great integrating with other platforms. You may also want to consider Quest/erwin Data Intelligence Suite. I have implemented this solution and it is one of the best. I would add that some tools tend to 'overwhelm' your users with all they can do. So be careful that whatever you bring in will not become 'shelf-ware'.
