Report generation offers invaluable insights into database performance
I basically use the solution for database management and to view the performance of a particular database object, any specific program, batch program, or online programs. Using the CSSZ tool, I can effectively monitor performance. In case of an exception, I can inform the application team. At DB2…

Extensive functionality impresses despite occasional setup complexity
The functions and features of Oracle Enterprise Manager that I have found most valuable are its evolution from being problematic in 10g and 11g versions to becoming better and more stable. Now it has become a significantly improved product. We have integrated identity management, and we are using it for normal database examination, tuning, and performance. We are working with STATSPACK and similar tools that are integrated in Oracle Enterprise Manager. We are currently working with version 13.5, having upgraded from 13.4 last year. Automation is useful for improving operational efficiency, and there are many more opportunities to automate outside the databases. Not many things need to be automated inside the databases. We have jobs running, imports, exports, and similar tasks. To automate these processes, we utilize the Scheduler from Oracle, which is managed in the databases by the vendor. This is not part of our DBA functions in Oracle Enterprise Manager.

"It is a good tool for monitoring databases."
"The biggest benefit of using Oracle Enterprise Manager is its monitoring capability."
"For any Enterprise edition database customer, I highly recommend that they should implement OEM and at a minimum purchase license for Diagnostic and Tuning pack for database."
"This solution was the only one which allows us to monitor all our solutions from one interface."
"We went with Oracle because we were looking for stability, a vendor that is reliable, being able to get help, troubleshooting when there's a problem."
"It's easy to implement as it's made by Oracle for Oracle."
"I really love this tool because I don't need to type the commands, it's very user friendly, I just click and get the reports and get it done."

Cons

"All the information we need, we could use to have it in a more usable format."
"The product has been fairly stable for the last couple of years. It has a high learning curve for some of the traditional DBAs who don't want to venture from IBM."
"It's a good product. I would give it a nine out of 10, and the reason is, in general, it's a technical product so I think that it's a little cumbersome."
"The initial setup parameters are quite exhaustive and some parameters cross with the products."
"I look forward to the application of these tools to all platforms in use, such as z/OS, Unix, and Windows."
"They need to provide a way to create and maintain performance repositories. The online tool is not perfect, but it is giving me what I need."
"Minor stability issues."
"In the case of any particular SQL which is executing for a longer time and causing issues with any particular store or DB2 programs, if it could pinpoint the problems like any other tool should do, that would be really helpful."
"The solution is considered expensive."
"I would like to have more details and privileges. I would say more grantable and obtainable privileges are needed."
"We would like to have a single dashboard for monitoring and controlling all of our products."
"One of the biggest issues, especially for 12c grid control, is the performance; to be able to monitor and find the root cause of performance issues immediately, in real time."
"The issues we've had with Enterprise Manager go hand-in-hand with our issues with SOA Suite. There are performance issues that we see tied to SOA Suite and the B2B functioning, all of which impacts Enterprise Manager."
"We've had a lot of struggles patching automation. There's no good log file that you can debug."
"We have experienced some downtime in terms of performance. For example, when we carry out some complicated code, it usually times out; sometimes it goes beyond sixty seconds and that's frustrating for the users."
"When contacting My Oracle Support, I encounter first-line support initially, which is inadequate as I require more in-depth support."

"It is part of Real Application Testing, so no new investment is necessary for clients who already are already using RAT."
"Based upon 3 days of implementation by a single person, plus licensing costs would be approximately $60,000, including the virtualized hosts."
