Has required significant improvements due to limited features but offers simple implementation and good support
Boomi AtomSphere API Management has very few features. If you ask me to name the top two, I would say MuleSoft and Apigee, as it depends on the customer-to-customer use cases. After those, WSO2, Kong, and whether you say Informatica API Manager or Boomi AtomSphere API Management, they stand with only three out of ten features which are essential for API management. All the features that Apigee has, they need to add. All the features that MuleSoft has, they need to add. It is not a simple task. The problem is that they lack features. It is not their performance. There are many features to mention. When you take and compare all the features that Apigee has and all the features that MuleSoft has, they need to implement those features.

API management has strengthened security and monitoring but still needs better support and tooling
There are areas of IBM API Connect that need to be improved. I want what Gravitee made, which is much better. Gravitee made many samples for different use cases. First of all, they made examples of use cases, codes, and what the module expects and what the module returns for multiple examples and use cases inside the development. I do not even have to go to the documentation website because everything is included inside the tool when I work on it. This is great, in fact. IBM API Connect should show examples. One other thing is the support. The support of IBM is in India. Every time I want to ask something, they say they need logs, they want this, they want that. Gravitee API asks me to explain the problem without asking a thousand times as if it is a request for a green card in the USA. Then they really explain quickly. IBM is a big company, so everything is standardized with the approach of "You do that, you do that, you request that. If you do not have that, you do not reply to the client." Clients want flexibility today, even if it is a huge company. A stressed client is a client that will want to change to other flexible solutions. When everything is fine, we do not care, but when there is stress and problems, that is when the customer of IBM evaluates the tool really. It is when there are problems. IBM makes a lot of efforts on sales and technical sales, and then that is it.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We can develop almost any interface that we need."
"AtomSphere API Management is a simple platform that's easy to use. If you're using it on-prem, there's a little learning curve."
"The user interface, which we use to create the integration, basically has the data structures collected, is pretty easy to navigate, is a drag and drop style of working, and there is very little code required so the creation of the endpoints is very simple."
"Boomi allows for more secure URLs and easy customization of HTTP and HTTPS protocols, which I find very beneficial."
"The stability of the solution is good."
"Integrations take less time."
"Integration is straightforward. There is no issue with it."
"The product's stability is good."
"The statistics component is easy to use."
"We belong to the healthcare industry, so it is beneficial to implement the API Connect solution to provide APIs that can integrate outside and inside our organization."
"The solution offers a pretty good SLA."
"When API Connect is running, it is a stable solution (just do not change it)."
"We switched to APIC for easier management of APIs and to leverage its inbuilt policies, security features, and usage of DataPower as gateway."
"One of the most valuable features is that we can seamlessly and harmoniously expose our capabilities, from a security point of view."
"It is quite stable. We've not had any problem. It has made for a good buy because we are finding that other companies that have similar set ups go down maybe once a month."
"Most of the business value that we are getting out of this solution is that it provides DevOps integration and a catalog for microservices, and we are able to share those APIs instantly within the organization; even if we want to share it outside publicly, then we can have those capabilities."

Cons

"Most of the basic functionality is there in Boomi, but APG is a more feature-rich solution."
"To some degree, you need to know what type or amount of API you are creating - whether it's a rest API or web service API. You need to know ETL in order to really get the most out of Boomi."
"From an improvement perspective, the price could be cheaper."
"The API management has room for improvement."
"It's difficult to integrate the on-prem application with the Dell Boomi Cloud. We have to check to ensure the Dell domain engine is running. It just requires some service endpoints from our on-prem application to connect to Dell Boomi Cloud to make it available to integrate. It would be better if AtomSphere API Management were offered as a purely SaaS application, so I wouldn't need an on-prem component to make it available. We could make a test call or provide some connection parameters. That should enable it to pull the data."
"Overall, I would rate AtomSphere lower than solutions like APG or API Connect."
"Scalability is an area where Boomi lacks."
"Boomi AtomSphere API Management can be improved in terms of threshold management and policy management."
"The implementation process could benefit from improvements, as it may take some time to become accustomed to the deployment."
"We've had some issues upgrading to the latest version of the solution."
"The solution is overly complex."
"It lacks the ability for billing and metering the API usage to invoicing in v3, however, v4 does have this."
"We use it for existing IIB services. We call on multiple back ends from the same service where the record layouts are different. It's difficult to describe and use them in the product."
"Debugging could be improved."
"Business applications could be exposed to users."
"IBM API Connect could improve the security of the application and the integration."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Boomi AtomSphere API Management is a cheap product."
"The price is reasonable."
"Boomi AtomSphere API Management gives customers a good price. Price-wise, the product is good."
"The product can get very expensive quickly if you connect to multiple databases."
"It is a pretty expensive tool."
"The price of the solution is very expensive, it can turn many customers away."
"It is an expensive solution. The licensing model is based on a per-subscription and per-subscriber end-user basis, meaning the price is determined by the end-users of the platform."
"This is a licensed product. If your company is looking to obtain a license, you have to work with IBM partners."
"It's an expensive product."
"I haven't seen anyone go from on-premise to the cloud. In fact, I am seeing people go from the cloud to on-premise because the costs can quickly grow on the cloud."
"I rate the product price a seven on a scale of one to ten, where one is a low price, and ten is a high price."
"IBM API Connect could be cheaper."
