Gained full visibility and streamlined threat detection through behavior-based insights and AI integration
Initially, we got to have a lot of false positives when we onboarded, but nowadays it's quite smooth. We have fine-tuned our security policies and allowed different levels of policies to get rid of those false positives. Currently, we are getting a fairly good amount of incidents that are not false positives or benign, but actionable items. The process is streamlined. In the initial days, the operations used to get involved in a lot of benign and other activities, but now the process is streamlined. We are leveraging the auto-detection and remediation plans. The operations teams are now more involved in other business roles as well, not just looking into the logs and fetching out what's happening there. They have fixed a lot of things. Initially, they didn't have IAC code drift detection, cloud posture management, or security posture management, but they have those now. They purchased different vendors and did a merger with that. They have now Prisma Cloud that gets integrated and now they are working with Cortex Cloud. Everything that was negative has now been addressed, and the product altogether looks to be in a very better and mature shape now. Currently, it's more or less detecting the workloads with AI-based best practices. Since most organizations are consuming AI agents and other things, we are looking forward to seeing what other feature enhancements Palo Alto can support in that.

Doesn't have daily updates, which is important for healthcare IT
I face challenges with the exclusion policy - it still scans folders we told it not to, causing issues. When we contact support, they tell us to update the latest agent, but we can't do that immediately due to medical device protocols and validation testing. I wish support would try to understand our issues better instead of giving this standard response. The machine learning feature they use often tells us to upgrade the agent or add things to the exclusion list, which isn't unacceptable. It's a very good and new technology as a tool and antivirus. But sometimes, it doesn't work properly with our medical devices and products, quarantining files it shouldn't even after we add them to exclusions. This is tricky for us.

Has consistently delivered double-layer protection and simplified policy application while needing mobile compatibility and better MacOS support
A significant limitation is that SonicWall Capture Client cannot be installed on smartphones, as there is no mobile version available.Occasionally, the Sentinel engine becomes unresponsive, particularly when customers do not properly restart or shutdown their systems. This requires a hard restart after installation to resolve the issue. Installation on Mac OS can be challenging, requiring multiple attempts due to version compatibility requirements. We must ensure the SonicWall Capture Client version is stable for Mac OS. The RAM usage is higher compared to SentinelOne, utilizing approximately 150 megabytes of memory. This is a common concern from customers, and reducing RAM consumption would be beneficial.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"They have a new GUI which is just fantastic."
"If the user leaves our premises or network, Palo Alto Traps will still be on that endpoint and will still apply our policies."
"From a single pane of glass, you can easily manage all of your endpoints."
"Cortex XDR is a very capable solution for protecting large networks and a lot of endpoints. It's very useful because the automation is very high, and if you combine it with the features on Palo Alto firewalls, it provides very strong protection."
"Since they've done their most recent update, the ease to isolate endpoints is valuable. If we find one where there is a virus on it, we can easily isolate it. We don't even have to contact the user. We don't have to manually take them off the network. We can easily isolate them."
"After deploying Traps, we saw the performance of the network improve by 65 to 70 percent."
"My advice for others looking into using Cortex is that it is very easy to use and very useful for the customer environment, whether it's a public or private one."
"What I like about Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks is that it is a comprehensive solution that contains everything the organization may need when using endpoints."
"Specifically for a Windows domain environment, the product can be customized and pushed via GPO or SCCM without issue."
"The solution’s AI is its most valuable feature."
"It is extremely simple to manage and deploy."
"The CylancePROTECT agent is very low on CPU usage, so it has virtually no adverse impact on my servers, desktops, or workstations."
"The most functional item that we use is the process to turn off the false flags that it causes."
"Its setup is simple if you have a Windows device; it is executable."
"The solution is stable."
"The platform's most valuable features are the malware detection capabilities."
"The product’s interface is easy to use."
"The solution serves as a very stable platform."
"SonicWall Capture Client's scalability is nice."
"SonicWall Capture Client offers a cost-effective solution that's cheaper compared to other vendors like CrowdStrike."
"The initial setup is straightforward."
"SonicWall Capture Client provides dual protection through two multi-engines: SonicWall Capture Client sandboxing and SentinelOne agent, with features like content blocking, real-time 24/7 protection without signature updates, and advanced machine learning that eliminates concerns about manual updates, making it more protective and easier to deploy."
"The solution has this very useful rollback feature, in which even if the system is infected by the worst malware or ransomware or anything, your data won't be lost."
"The most valuable features of SonicWall Capture Client are CSC (Capture Security Center), RTDMI (Real-Time Deep Memory Inspection), and the deep memory inspection feature."

Cons

"There is a severe gap in functionality between Windows, Linux, and Mac versions."
"Cortex XDR could be improved with more GUI features."
"Initially, we got to have a lot of false positives when we onboarded, but nowadays it's quite smooth."
"There is also no recovery feature; if some endpoint is under attack there must be the possibility of recovering it or restoring it to a normal state."
"If you compare it to SentinelOne, which has more functionalities and detection capabilities on an open platform, the pricing on SentinelOne is far more reasonable and cheaper than Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks."
"Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks can improve mobile integration to allow access to the console."
"Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks could improve by offering remote management."
"It's not an ideal choice for smaller businesses, as you need a minimum of 200 endpoints to even use the solution at all."
"The product needs to continue to offer better alerts, in particular around false positives, and it needs to reduce them from happening."
"I would like to see them fix the alerting system so that the endpoint reporting is a bit more streamlined."
"An area for improvement in CylancePROTECT is its pricing, as it's a bit costly."
"CylancePROTECT could be improved in its technical support and communication."
"There are a lot of false positives and it takes up a lot of time."
"Having worked with SentinelOne, Cylance is good, however, it probably needs to add a feature similar to SentinelOne's rollback functionality. With this feature, if you get infected, with a click, you can go back to the pre-infection state. If Cylance could add this functionality to their offering as well, that would be ideal."
"I face challenges with the exclusion policy - it still scans folders we told it not to, causing issues. When we contact support, they tell us to update the latest agent, but we can't do that immediately due to medical device protocols and validation testing. I wish support would try to understand our issues better instead of giving this standard response. The machine learning feature they use often tells us to upgrade the agent or add things to the exclusion list, which isn't unacceptable."
"I would like to see a little bit of additional reporting or insight as to what it is doing exactly."
"They should improve their user interface."
"We weren't very happy with the product itself and therefore don't know if it is worth it to spend the money we have on it."
"It takes technical support too long to resolve an issue."
"An area for improvement in SonicWall Capture Client is TenantCloud support. Suppose you want to implement SonicWall Capture Client; you'll have to register it on MySonicWall, then once your SonicWall Capture Client license expires and you don't want to renew it, you can't delete it from your MySonicWall account, so that's an area for improvement."
"XDR cannot be used unless MDR services are purchased with SonicWall."
"The implementation is not easy."
"Technical support from SonicWall has room for improvement. While their escalation process is understandable, it can be time-consuming as all logs need to be provided multiple times across different service levels."
"The vulnerability reports need to be better. Windows Defender detected some issues that SonicWall Capture Client couldn't."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The cost depends on your chosen license type, like Pro or other licenses."
"Compared to CrowdStrike, Cortex XDR is an expensive solution."
"I did PoCs on products called Cylance and CrowdStrike. Although, I consider these products and they were also good, when it come to cost and budgetary factors, Traps has been proven to be better than the other two products. It is quite cost-effective and delivers all the entire solution which we require."
"Cortex XDR's pricing is ok."
"It is "expensive" and flexible."
"Cortex XDR’s pricing is very reasonable."
"Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks is an expensive solution."
"It has reasonable pricing for the use cases it provides to the company."
"The initial end-point cost may seem a little high (~$55/device/year) but when you look at the total peace of mind that the solution provides, with no reboots for updates, and negligible performance impact, it is well worth it."
"We pay our license on a yearly basis and have just renewed for two years."
"Our licensing cost for the solution is around $4,000 for six months. There are no costs in addition to the standard licensing fees."
"Do not get hung up on price. You pay for what you get and expensive will hurt one time, where cheap will hurt forever, especially if you fall victim to a ransom attack, etc."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the solution's pricing a seven out of ten."
"The solution's pricing is around the same as most EDRs but slightly behind some of the major ones."
"The licensing part of the product is too expensive compared to other solutions in the market."
"We would just add more if there are new users, but right now you just need one license for per user."
"Here in Indonesia, SonicWall Capture Client costs five hundred thousand rupiahs for every endpoint. If I'm correct, you only have to pay the licensing fee, and there's no additional fee. To me, the pricing for SonicWall Capture Client is four out of five."
"You have to pay for the solution, and a lot of customers do not want to pay."
"The product is very expensive."
